Alicia Silverstone Just Dropped News About 'Clueless'— And Fans Will Be Totally Buggin
You're not totally buggin — a series based on the '90s classic 'Clueless' is in the works, and Alicia Silverstone is sharing her role in it. Thirty years ago, people remember 'rollin' with the homies' in Beverly Hills thanks to the iconic Cher Horowitz and her well-to-do entourage. Now, during a Thursday appearance on 'Today,' Silverstone spoke about the voyage back to the West Coast. 'I'm really excited about it,' she said. 'We're going to try really hard… the goal is to make it honor what everyone loves about 'Clueless,' [and] Cher. We want to honor that.' Silverstone shared that the project is currently in 'baby stages' but promises the production will bring something 'fresh and new' to the characters many have held close to their hearts since 1995. She also revealed that she is the project's executive producer. In a separate interview on 'TODAY with Jenna & Friends,' she reflected on the film's long-lasting legacy and its unexpected journey into a 'cultural phenomenon.' She credited the movie's enduring appeal to director Amy Heckerling and her knack for 'capturing exactly what was happening at that moment.' The actor also attributed the movie's success to the costumes that turned hallways into runways. 'I was just excited to be there doing this great part that I got,' she said, when asked if she ever predicted the film's massive impact. Five years ago, Silverstone sat down with Vogue to discuss the movie's impact and how audiences aligned with her character. 'I think people identify with Cher's heart and her willingness to change and grow because of how silly she was,' she said. 'She was trying hard to evolve because of her sweet Josh. I don't know how to explain why or what made ′Clueless' what it was, but I know it happened, and I know that people continue to love it. And it never gets old, so that's the good news.' Related... Alicia Silverstone Teases Upcoming 'Clueless' Sequel 30 Years After the Original
Alicia Silverstone Teases Upcoming 'Clueless' Sequel 30 Years After the Original originally appeared on Parade. Hard as it is to believe, it's been just over 30 years since audiences last saw Alicia Silverstone's charismatic Cher strutting across the big screen. For as many years as audiences have clambered to see a follow-up to 1995's cult favorite Clueless, numerous attempts to create a long-awaited sequel to the film have been met with failure or significant delays. But if some recent remarks from the 48-year-old Silverstone are any indication, it seems like Clueless' long-delayed follow-up is finally picking up steam. After almost six years of development, a Clueless TV series is currently in development at Peacock, with Silverstone herself set to reprise her role as the kind-natured Valley Girl, Cher Horowitz. Making a recent appearance on TODAY this past Thursday, the show's hosts asked what information she could tease about the upcoming series. "Not much," the Batman & Robin actress said with a laugh. Fortunately, Silverstone did provide some promising updates on Peacock's streaming series, specifically stating a key factor they're taking into consideration for the sequel is to honor the original Clueless every way they can. 'I'm really excited about it,' Silverstone said. 'I think we're going to try really hard. The goal is to make it honor what everyone loves about Clueless and Cher.' As fans of the original movie likely know, 1995's Clueless followed Silverstone's fashionable high school teenager navigating love and friendship in her California high school. Striving to use her popularity to help others, Cher attempts to play the role of matchmaker for several teachers, students and close friends, all the while confronting her own feelings for her former stepbrother (Paul Rudd). While Silverstone admitted the series is still fairly early in its development phase, she also told TODAY's hosts that the show will weave in some "fresh" components to help differentiate it from the film. "We want to honor that, but also bring something fresh and new to it,' Silverstone said. 'I'm confident that we'll be able to do that, but we're in baby stages right now.'
