Nebraska coach Matt Rhule praises quarterback Dylan Raiola during radio appearance
Nebraska's head football coach had high praise for his starting quarterback. Matt Rhule made the comments about sophomore starting quarterback Dylan Raiola while appearing on the Jim Rome Show last week. Rhule not only praised his quarterback's leadership but also disclosed that multiple schools had contacted Raiola, despite his never entering the transfer portal.
'And everyone reached out to him. He could have taken the easy way out and left and gone into the portal and gone to someplace where he could start over where he doesn't have to do as much himself. But he chose to stick it out and fight."
The quarterback will also work out with some elite talent later this month. Raiola will be attending the Manning Passing Academy on the campus of Nicholls State University from June 26 to June 29. The Cornhuskers' head coach also praised the off-the-field traits that Raiola has developed since the end of last season.
"Where I see him growing is in the phases of leadership and the phases of mental toughness, handling adversity. I think he's going to have a great year."
Nebraska will open the 2025 college football season on Thursday, August 28, when the Huskers face the Cincinnati Bearcats at Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri. The kickoff time has not been determined yet.

New York Knicks reportedly interested in trading for former MSU star Jaren Jackson Jr. A former Michigan State basketball star is reportedly a top target on the trade market for one of the biggest teams in the NBA. Kris Pursiainen of NBA Central is reporting that the New York Knicks are interested in trading for former Michigan State Spartans star Jaren Jackson Jr. According to Pursiainen, the Knicks consider Jackson and Karl-Anthony Towns as a "dream pairing." There has been some chatter over the past few days that the Memphis Grizzlies could trade away Jackson as part of freeing up salary cap space. There was a new report from ESPN on Monday that stated the Grizzlies aren't looking to move the former Spartan but things, of course, could change quickly. Jackson has played all seven of his NBA seasons with the Grizzlies after they drafted him with the No. 4 overall pick in the 2018 NBA Draft. FSU commit shuts down his recruitment The FSU Seminoles are starting to heat up on the recruiting trail, they are surging for several of their top targets after a busy weekend of official visits. Just as importantly, they are getting their commits to shut down their recruitment. Four-star wide receiver Darryon Williams announced his recruitment was over on Sunday, and three-star cornerback Sean Johnson did the same on Monday. He announced the news on X. "My recruitment is 100% shut down go NOLES," he wrote. He tagged defensive backs coach Patrick Surtain Sr. and safeties coach Evan Cooper in the post and included a photo of him and head coach Mike Norvell from his official visit. Johnson is the No. 549 overall player and No. 45 cornerback in the 247Sports composite rankings. He is also the No. 10 player from Maryland. While listed as a corner, he is expected to play safety for the Seminoles. He committed to them back on April 10 and is one of three safeties they have committed in their 2026 recruiting class. Four-star prospects Tredarius Hughes and Darryl Bell III complete the class.
