Operation Sindoor a declaration, asserts India will punish not only terrorists but systems that nourish them: JNU V-C Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit
The vice-chancellor of Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), Dr Santishree Dhulipudi Pandit, on Thursday said that Operation Sindoor asserts that India will not be 'blackmailed by nuclear threats' and will punish 'not only terrorists but the systems that nourish them'.
Pandit was delivering the valedictory address as she presided over the convocation of the College of Military Engineering (CME) in Pune on Thursday morning.
Thirty-five officers were conferred degrees under the academic affiliation of the JNU. This included 11 officers from the MTech (Structural Engineering) course and 24 officers from the Technical Entry Scheme (TES) course who received BTech degrees in civil and mechanical engineering.
Referring to Operation Sindoor, India's retaliatory response after the Pahalgam terror attack, Pandit said it 'represents the changed doctrine that redefines national goals'.
'India's national security philosophy is no longer one of ambiguity and endurance. It is now of clarity, consequence and retaliation. The Pahalgam attack – barbarically targeted and state-sponsored – was not the first provocation but a final trigger. In response, India launched Operation Sindoor, a calibrated multi-domain retaliation that changed our national security paradigm,' she said.
'(Operation) Sindoor was not just a military operation but a declaration. It asserted that India will not absorb terrorism as a cost of geography or diplomacy. It will retaliate. It will define the escalation matrix. And it will punish aggression through strength, not speeches. The significance of Operation Sindoor lies in operational brilliance and strategic symbolism,' she added.
Saying that Operation Sindoor was the beginning of a new strategic era, Pandit said, 'It asserts that India will not be blackmailed by nuclear threats. India will retaliate across domains – military, cyber, diplomatic, hydrological. India will punish not only terrorists but the systems that nourish them. India will shape the narrative before it is shaped by others. It is the doctrine you are part of and it is the doctrine you must help sustain, through your preparedness, innovation and unapologetic assertion of our national interest. Deterrence is not a slogan. It is infrastructure, data, logistics and precision – the very things you have been trained for.'
The JNU vice-chancellor added, 'In the past, India made some strategic errors. Trusting third parties to resolve internal issues…internationalising domestic concerns…and assuming that restraint would earn respect. No longer. Operation Sindoor decisively rejected any third-party mediation…'.
'You are now a part of a doctrine that no longer allows Pakistan to hide behind non-state actors. You are part of a generation that has rejected the fatalism of strategic restraint and has adopted strategic clarity of national interest. Artificial intelligence and machine learning are no longer civilian luxuries but are military necessities. In the cyber warfare phase of Operation Sindoor, we witnessed a dramatic evolution that, for the first time, cyberspace became an active theatre of conflict. It is not science fiction. It is your battlefield,' Pandit said, addressing the gathering.
Addressing the 35 officers, Pandit said, 'Graduating today means stepping out in a world more volatile, complex, and interdependent than ever before. A world where technology disrupts borders, cyberattacks undermine sovereignty and engineered narratives shape geopolitical outcomes. It is a world where the old doctrines of diplomacy have collapsed under the weight of asymmetry, hybrid warfare and proxy battles. But it is a world today where India stands tall, emerging not just as a regional anchor but as a global conscience. The world you enter from here is one beyond engineering and military doctrine, but one where technological mastery is a prerequisite tool for you to preserve the sovereign status of India. You are not merely engineers, you are the architects of India's deterrence.'
CME Commandant Lieutenant General A K Ramesh encouraged the graduating officers to remain committed to professional excellence by staying attuned to ongoing innovations and challenges in the engineering domain. Brigadier Ravi Reddy, Officiating Deputy Commandant and Dean, CME, presented the academic report for Spring Term 2025.
Lieutenant Colonel Neeraj Parmar was awarded the Gold Medal and General Officer Commanding-in-Chief Army Training Command (ARTRAC) Award for securing the top position in the MTech (Structural Engineering) course. The General Officer Commanding-in-Chief ARTRAC Award for BTech (Civil Engineering) and BTech (Mechanical Engineering) went to Lieutenant Priyansh Mishra and Lieutenant Anshuman Chaudhary of TES, respectively.

"Mediation Between Two Unequals Not Possible": Shashi Tharoor On Trump's Claims
Washington: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor has said that to suggest one can mediate between two unequals is not possible because there is no equivalence between terrorists and their victims, amid repeated claims by US President Donald Trump that he "helped settle" the tensions between India and Pakistan. Mr Tharoor, currently in the US leading a multi-party delegation on Operation Sindoor, made the comments in response to a question during a conversation at the Council on Foreign Relations here Thursday. "…Mediation is not a term that we are particularly willing to entertain. I'll tell you why not. The fact is that this implies, even when you say things like broker or whatever, you're implying an equivalence which simply doesn't exist," Mr Tharoor said. He said there is no equivalence between terrorists and their victims. "There is no equivalence between a country that provides safe haven to terrorism, and a country that's a flourishing multi-party democracy that's trying to get on with its business," he said. "There is no equivalence between a state that is a status quo power that just wants to be left alone by its neighbours, where the neighbours don't agree with us, and a revisionist power that wants to upset the geopolitical arrangements that have existed for the last three-quarters of a century. There is no equivalence possible in these cases, and in these circumstances, to suggest that you can mediate between two unequals is not possible,' Mr Tharoor added. Since May 10, when Trump announced on social media that India and Pakistan had agreed to a 'full and immediate' ceasefire after a 'long night' of talks mediated by Washington, he has repeated his claim over a dozen times that he 'helped settle' the tensions between India and Pakistan. He has also claimed that he told the nuclear-armed South Asian neighbours that America would do a 'lot of trade' with them if they stopped the conflict. On being asked how he would characterize the American role in the conflict, Tharoor said he is "guessing to some degree' that the American role would have been first of all to keep themselves informed, conversations on both sides, and 'certainly my government received a number of calls at high levels from the US government, and we appreciated their concern and their interest.' He said that at the same time, the US must have been making similar calls at the highest levels to the Pakistan side, and 'our assumption is that's where, because that's the side that needed persuading to stop this process, that may well have been where their messages really had the greatest effect. But that's guesswork on my part. I don't know what they said to the Pakistanis.' Trump repeated the claim as recently as Thursday when during a meeting with German Chancellor Friedrich Merz in the Oval Office, the US President said that he is 'very proud" that he was able to stop the conflict between nuclear powers India and Pakistan. 'I spoke to some very talented people on both sides, very good people on both sides' and said that Washington will not do any trade deals with either 'if you are going to go shooting each other and whipping out nuclear weapons that may be even affect us. Because you know that nuclear dust blows across oceans very quickly, it affects us," Trump said. 'You know what, I got that war am I going to get credit? I'm not going to get credit for anything. They don't give me credit for anything. But nobody else could have done it. I stopped it. I was very proud of that,' Trump added. About two weeks after the horrific April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam in Jammu and Kashmir in which 26 civilians were killed, India launched Operation Sindoor targeting terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir on May 7. India and Pakistan reached an understanding on May 10 to end the conflict after four days of intense cross-border drone and missile strikes. India has been maintaining that the understanding on cessation of hostilities with Pakistan was reached following direct talks between the Directors General of Military Operations (DGMOs) of the two militaries.

"Rahul Gandhi is Pakistan's spokesperson. Pakistan would not acknowledge this and he would deny this. But the Congress leader's conduct is the clinching evidence," Pradhan said, adding, "This is not a conspiracy theory, nor is it motivated by partisanship. The proof is in the public domain and for everyone to see. He has been Pakistan's trumpet." Pradhan said from accusing Hindus and Hindutva of violence to lying that India surrendered to foreign pressure to suspend Operation Sindoor , Rahul has unfailingly parroted Islamabad line. "He copies and pastes statements on Pakistan's website and exposes his stupidity," Pradhan said. Pakistan defence minister Khwaja Asif, in a viral video, could be heard speaking about Rahul's jibe at the Indian govt. "People of India are beginning to realise that their Prime Minister has surrendered," Asif claimed, in an attempt to save his own face after his humiliating takedown during Operation Sindoor. Union parliamentary affairs minister Kiren Rijiju also took note of the viral video and slammed the Congress MP for crossing the line, so much so that it seems to be going against the nation. Telangana: MoS Defence Sanjay Seth visits Military College of Electronics and Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) in Secunderabad
Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], June 6 (ANI): Union Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, visited Military College of Electronics & Mechanical Engineering (MCEME) on Friday. He was briefed by the Commandant, Lt Gen Neeraj Varshney, VSM, about the training activities at the institution. He interacted with the soldiers and visited the new Drone Training Lab, 'Drone Alaya', and discussed ways and means to develop indigenous anti-drone systems to prevent Kamikaze attacks. He witnessed the new projects of staff on radars in super high-altitude areas and appreciated the work of EME technicians in Operation Sindoor and MCEME's initiatives in promoting Atmanirbharta in defence technologies along with MSMEs & Startups. Union Minister of State for Defence Sanjay Seth also planted a tree on MCEME's premises. Earlier in the day, Union Minister of State for Defence, Sanjay Seth, visited Ordnance Factory Medak in Telangana. Seth was received by Sanjay Dwivedi, CMD/AVNL, in the presence of Satyabrata Mukherjee, Director/Operations. As per a release, Sanjay Seth inspected the production facilities and enquired about the production schedules. The Union Minister was shown all the products manufactured at OF Medak. He appreciated and expressed satisfaction at the preparedness of the factory. Along with Raghunandan Rao, Member of Parliament, Medak took a tank ride. Both the dignitaries planted saplings to mark World Environment Day. The representatives of the Unions and Associations submitted a memorandum to the MoS. The visit ended successfully on a positive note. Earlier, Sanjay Seth announced the expansion of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) by three lakh cadets across the country. Several states have already agreed to support this plan and have committed to fast-tracking the necessary training infrastructure, according to an official statement from the Ministry of Defence. 'He also announced the planned expansion of NCC by Three lakh cadets across the country with several States already extending their concurrence and committing to fast-track the necessary training infrastructure,' the MoD statement read. 'National Cadet Corps (NCC) is an organisation that instils the feeling of nationalism, service... PM Modi has resolved that the number of cadets in the NCC should be between 17-20 lakhs... All the states positively contribute to it and we will achieve the target shortly...' Seth said. (ANI)
