ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai: Top tips to keep during the India versus New Zealand cricket match

What's On07-03-2025

Howzatttttt!
India takes on New Zealand in an adrenaline-pumping cricket match on Sunday, March 9, 2025 to see who will raise the ICC Champions Trophy in Dubai.
When India picked up the win in the semi-finals, thus confirming they were in the finals, tickets sold out within an hour, with over 100,000 fans virtually lining up trying to get possibly one of the hottest tickets in town.
If you are one of the lucky few to secure the ticket to possibly one of the biggest cricket matches this year, congratulations.
But before you head on over to the match on Sunday all giddy with excitement, here are a few things you need to know. Getting there
As you can imagine, it's a full house. That is a whopping 25,000 cricket fans all descending to the Dubai Sports City stadium on one afternoon. Yikes!
Save yourself the white-hair-inducing anxiety, and plan well in advance to get to the stadium on time so you can catch the whole match from the very first over.
A very (very) important tip: Leave the car at home, unless you want the additional stress of finding a car parking space and dealing with the back-to-back traffic once the winner lifts the trophy.
Secondly, sadly, there is no Dubai Metro connection, but… there is the official RTA bus.
From Internet City, hop on board the F34 and make the 20-minute journey to the Dubai Cricket Stadium bus stop. From here, it's just a seven-minute walk to the venue. Buses will depart every 19 to 33 minutes, so don't stress if you miss one.
From the Mall of the Emirates, hop on board the F37 bus and make the 35-minute journey to Dubai Cricket Stadium. From here, it is a little longer walk to the stadium, at about 20 minutes. The bus frequency is 20-30 minutes.
Important tip: Ensure you have enough balance on your nol card before you depart. At the stadium
Once you've reached the stadium safely, ensure you have your valid ticket on you at all times. No reentry will be allowed, and this is not the match to decide to leave the stadium and come back, because there will only be a few things that will be more important.
All children above the age of three will require a ticket. Carry your little one's Emirates ID as proof of age.
Gates open three hours before the match, giving you plenty of time. The match begins at 1pm. Other useful tips
Carry sunglasses and a hat, and depending on how tolerant you are to the cool Dubai weather, carry a light jacket or a shawl.
Leave the bottles of water and bites at home, as these will be discarded before you enter the stadium. There are food and beverage stands at the stadium. You can make your purchase with credit cards.
Another thing to note: If your team wins, do not, under any circumstances, celebrate by using hazardous materials, fireworks, flares, laser pointers, or flammable substances to celebrate. Essentially, leave anything at home that can harm the lives of your fellow fans, the players, and officials. The Dubai Police will be involved, and you don't want to be 'that person' that ruined the fun.
Here is a list of other prohibited items: No remote controlled devices, no flash photography, no power banks – so ensure your phone battery is 100% before you leave home, no radio communication devices, no selfie sticks; monopods or umbrealls; no sharp objects, no political flags and no bikes; skateboards or scooters.
Smoking is also prohibited at the stadium.
For social media users, here's something very important to note: You are not allowed to film the match and post it onto your social media. Either you will be stopped by security at the stadium (and most likely get your phone taken away), or your account will get flagged by Instagram. Instead, set the phones down and join with others to wave those flags and cheer for your team. How to watch the match if you don't have a ticket
First of all, cheer up; there will be possible matches in the future.
If you really want to watch the match and experience a slice of the electrifying atmosphere at the stadium, join one of the very many sports bars showing the match live.
Not only will you get to watch the match, but there will be some cool food and drink deals you can snap up you.

7.58 million riders used RTA services during Eid Al Adha holiday in Dubai

Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) announced that during Eid Al Adha holiday, the total number of passengers who used public transportation, shared transportation, and taxis reached 7.577 million, an increase of 14% during the same period last year. RTA has provided a diverse range of transportation options during the holiday period. The number of metro passengers utilising red and green lines reached 2.786 million riders, tram passengers stood at 119,917, and public bus passengers totalled 1.663 million. Marine transport was also a popular choice, with 307,684 passengers recorded. Taxis played a significant role, transporting 2.196 million riders, and shared transportation vehicles saw over 504,159 riders. Meanwhile, Ajman Transport Authority (ATA) carried 439,168 passengers across various modes of transport in the emirate during the Eid Al-Adha holiday, marking a 34% increase compared to Eid Al-Adha last year. This growth reflects the efficiency of Ajman's transport system and the increasing public trust in the Authority's modern and diverse transport network. ATA noted that taxis topped the list of most-used transportation modes during the holiday, carrying 380,622 passengers. Their widespread availability and ease of access, coupled with smart booking services via digital apps, contributed significantly to their popularity. Public buses also witnessed notable demand, with 55,256 passengers utilising the service. Additionally, 2,716 passengers used the Abra water taxi, and 574 passengers benefited from the on-demand transport service, accessed through smart reservation systems. The Authority stated that this achievement was made possible by proactive planning and the implementation of a flexible, comprehensive operational plan. This included expanding the fleet, increasing the number of vehicles, and intensifying field monitoring, which allowed for effective traffic management and met the heightened transport demand during the holiday. The Authority emphasised that this remarkable increase in passenger numbers reflects the success of continuous investments in transport infrastructure, the adoption of smart digital solutions, and a commitment to high service quality. These efforts are aligned with Ajman Vision 2030, which aims to realise sustainable urban mobility and enhance quality of life for all segments of society through resilient, safe, and environmentally friendly infrastructure. UAE: Over 20,000 lost items reported in 2024; ID cards, passports most common

The Ministry of Interior in the United Arab Emirates revealed that a total of approximately 20,000 reports of lost items were submitted to police centers across the country in 2024. These reports were filed through the Ministry's smartphone application, official website, and via in-person visits to police stations. According to the open data statistics published on the Ministry's website, identity cards and passports were the most commonly reported lost and found items. Other frequently reported items included gold jewelry, cash, foreign currency, wallets, personal bags, official documents, driving licenses, and bank cards. To make the process more accessible, the Ministry offers the "Police Station in Your Phone" service. This is part of its ongoing efforts to digitize services and streamline police operations. The initiative allows users to file police reports and access a wide range of services from anywhere, eliminating the need for physical presence at police centers. Through this service, users can easily interact with police departments, submit their cases, and track the progress of their requests, all from the comfort of their current location. This reflects the Ministry's broader vision of enhancing public safety and security through smart solutions and digital transformation. In related guidance, the official portal of the UAE Government provided detailed steps for individuals who lose or damage their Emirates ID or passport: Lost Emirates ID or Passport: What to Do If an Emirates ID is lost, stolen, or damaged, individuals must report it immediately to the Federal Authority for Identity, Citizenship, Customs & Port Security (ICP). The authority will deactivate the old card and issue a new one. In the case of a lost passport, expatriates must ensure their residency visa is reissued. If the visa is still valid, it will be reattached to the new passport. If it has expired, a new visa with updated validity will be issued based on standard procedures. For Expatriates Who Lose Their Passport Report the loss. Visit the nearest police station where the passport was lost. Complete a dedicated passport loss report form. If the Lost Passport Belongs to a minor, the parent or guardian must file a police report. If the Lost Passport Belongs to a Sponsored Employee The employer must submit a letter to the police department in the relevant emirate. The letter should be on official company letterhead, and accompanied by copies of the trade license and company establishment card. If the Lost Passport Belongs to a Family-Sponsored Individual The sponsor must submit a signed letter along with a copy of their own passport. In Dubai, the process is linked to the General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs (GDRFA) and the Dubai Courts. Follow-up Steps After Police Report Step 1: File a police report at the nearest station. Step 2: Visit the courts, public prosecution, and the GDRFA in your emirate to certify the report. Step 3: Return to the police station to receive the official loss certificate. Step 4: Visit your country's embassy or consulate in the UAE to apply for a new passport. Step 5: Once the new passport is issued, return to the GDRFA to reapply or transfer your residency visa. If the Passport Is Lost Abroad If the individual is in their home country, they must follow local procedures to report the lost passport and apply for a new one. If the individual is in a third country, they should contact their embassy or consulate in that country for instructions on how to proceed. This multi-step system is designed to ensure security, proper documentation, and verification at each stage, while making it as efficient as possible for residents and visitors in the UAE.
