Mida Noodt targeting German one-two at T100 Triathlon
The 24-year-old took third in San Francisco, rounding off the medal places behind compatriot Rico Bogen and Jelle Geens.
It was the perfect follow-up to a ninth-place finish at the season opener in Singapore, and success has left the German hungry for more alongside long-time friend and rival Bogen.
'Now I have finished on the podium once, I want to repeat it,' he said. 'The adrenaline and vibes you get from crossing the finish line and being in the podium spots is so valuable. I don't look too much at the overall rankings.
'[Rico and I] have been racing each other for over 10 years, we started in the junior ranks. It is nice to see his progression and the course will suit him so maybe we can make it a one-two.'
Noodt is enjoying his first season as a contracted T100 athlete, having been a wildcard in the inaugural season last year.
There he produced a strong trio of performances, with a best showing of 18th in Singapore, but has now stepped up a level to challenge amidst a very strong field.
The 24-year-old produced the best result of his career in San Francisco, finishing just under four minutes behind ultimate victor Bogen, and he believes there is still more to come from him in Vancouver.
He added: 'I came here directly from San Francisco so I know the course inside out. I am enjoying the city so far and I am feeling really good in training.
'I think the course suits me better than San Francisco. I think I can find one or two per cent extra from San Francisco.
'I take a lot of confidence. When you have a great race, you always recover faster. I have got some decent training in and the confidence is there.'

Ten Hag looks to get one over Man Utd by hijacking former club's transfer deal
Bayer Leverkusen are eyeing a potential move for Manchester City's James McAtee as Erik ten Hag looks to get one over on Manchester United, who have also considered the player Bayer Leverkusen are weighing up a bid for Manchester City youngster James McAtee - who has previously been linked with Manchester United. Erik ten Hag is now in charge at the German outfit and will have to replace Florian Wirtz. The playmaker is closing in on a £116million switch to Liverpool, which will leave the Bundesliga outfit with cash to spend and a sizeable void that needs filling. They have identified the City playmaker as an individual who could bolster their squad, reports Sky Germany. McAtee has enjoyed some impressive moments in a City shirt, but is still very much establishing himself under Pep Guardiola, who is known for taking his time when integrating young players into his system. The recent signings may also push him down the pecking order. He scored an FA Cup hat-trick several months ago and has also contributed in the Premier League. One of those keen on McAtee are the Red Devils. Selling direct to the Old Trafford outfit would prove a hugely controversial move however. As a result it could open the door for the club's former manager, Ten Hag, to swoop in with City likely to favour selling him abroad if they did have to part with the player. Guardiola admits he wants to keep the 22-year-old, but would understand his desire to play regularly. He said in April: 'For the age, I'd like him to stay. But I understand players want more minutes. He can play different positions but I don't know how the squad will be and we will see.' City have seen Cole Palmer flourish since leaving the Etihad. He headed to Chelsea where he knew he'd play regularly and saw his career blossom - which may factor in McAtee's thinking. Conversely, Phil Foden's patience in Manchester was richly rewarded. Another factor at play is that McAtee's contract expires in 2026 - leaving the City hierarchy to either hand him a new deal or cash in before he becomes a free agent. The Manchester club have bought and sold well in recent years, meaning they have toed the PSR line well. McAtee may also see Leverkusen as an ideal destination given how the likes of Jadon Sancho and Jude Bellingham have excelled in Germany. The Bundesliga outfit can also offer Champions League football.

Major Florian Wirtz clue dropped as star speaks out on Liverpool move
Liverpool are set to splash the cash over the coming week with a deal for Florian Wirtz close to completion but there are doubts over Andy Robertson's long-term future at Anfield Liverpool have not messed around this summer as they attempt to launch a successful Premier League title defence. Despite losing Trent Alexander-Arnold, the Reds very quickly moved for his replacement by signing Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen. They've also sealed a deal to sign wonderkid Armin Pecsi, the young goalkeeper set to compete with Alisson and fellow new arrival Giorgi Mamardashvilli next season. But Liverpool 's business does not look like it will end there. Arne Slot 's side are closing in on a mega deal for Leverkusen playmaker Florian Wirtz, who could potentially become the most expensive footballer in British football history. He looks set to be joined by Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez. But it's not just incomings where Liverpool chiefs are earning their money. There's also plenty of interest in their current stars, with decisions set to be taken over their futures. With that being said, get up to date with all of the latest transfer news and rumours from Anfield: Wirtz clue dropped Bayer Leverkusen appear to have strongly hinted that Florian Wirtz is on his way to Liverpool having made moves to sign his replacement. Previous reports suggested that the German side were interested in Bournemouth star Justin Kluivert. A fresh report from Voetbal International has revealed that PSV star Johan Bakayoko is also on Leverkusen's shortlist. He is seen as a more affordable option for Leverkusen given he has just one year remaining on his PSV deal. Ironically, Bakayoko has been linked with a move to Anfield in the past. But Liverpool now appear very unlikely to pursue him given their imminent deal for Wirtz. Brighton star reveals Liverpool dream Brighton star Igor Julio has claimed it is his dream to sign for Liverpool having urged teammate Joao Pedro to move to Anfield. 'I told [Pedro] that he has to think about what he wants from his career,' he said. 'In my opinion, if I were going to a 'Big Six' team, I would go to a team that fights for the Premier League, plays in the Champions League and is always in a position to win. 'I would go to a Liverpool team and I think he would fit in perfectly at Liverpool. It's because I've always dreamed of playing for Liverpool and I would go there.' Atletico eye Robertson On the topic of defenders, Liverpool look like they have a fight on their hands to keep Andrew Robertson. According to The Athletic, Spanish giants Atletico Madrid have put Robertson right at the top of their shortlist for a new left-back having abandoned a move for Theo Hernandez. Talks are yet to be opened between the two clubs and with the defender himself, albeit he is apparently keen on a move to Madrid. Robertson could potentially be set to fall down the pecking order at Anfield due to the possible signing of Bournemouth star Milos Kerkez. Florian Wirtz idolised Chelsea flop as Liverpool close in on £116m transfer
Incoming Liverpool star Florian Wirtz will have a lot of pressure to succeed after arriving as the most expensive Premier League player for £116.5m and his former ex-team-mates have been discussing when he burst onto the scene Florian Wirtz will be hoping to have a bigger impact on the Premier League in Liverpool red than his boyhood hero Marko Marin did wearing Chelsea blue. The champions' British record signing grew up idolising Marin when he first started showing his potential playing alongside older boys at Grun-Weiss Brauweiler, the junior club on the outskirts of Cologne where his dad Hans-Joachim acts as both the chairman and his youngest son's agent. When the Bosnia-born German international moved to Stamford Bridge from Werder Bremen in the summer of 2012 in a deal worth £6.5million, big things were expected of him. But he played just two Premier League starts for the Londoners and was loaned out to Sevilla, Fiorentina, Anderlecht and Trabzonspor before joining Olympiakos three years later. Marin was a hugely-talented attacking midfielder playing his best football with Bremen when Bundesliga rivals FC Koln launched a charm offensive to sign the precocious seven-year-old Wirtz in 2010. Club officials wanted to present him with a shirt bearing the name of his favourite player - and were stunned when the youngster name-checked Marin rather than Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi or German star Mesut Ozil. He still treasures the jersey. Liverpool have agreed a deal with Bayer Leverkusen that will see them pay £100million plus another £16million in add-ons to bring Wirtz to Anfield in a bid to improve a team that cruised to the title under Arne Slot in the Dutchman's first season. The 22-year-old is a team player who isn't afraid to push against the grain. Former team-mates at Brauweiler describe a personality who was always ready to sacrifice himself for the good of the collective. Benjamin Schwarz recalled: "Flo always gave his best for the team and always encouraged the other boys. Even at a young age that was very noticeable. He also always passed the ball to his team-mates even though he knew he was so much better than the rest of us." Bilal Ksiouar added: "When you played in the same team as Flo it was like you had one or two players more than the opposition. Even against older boys and better teams, he always stood out." Yet Wirtz caused a storm in the local area when he left Koln after 10 years in January 2020 to join Bayer Leverkusen. The two rivals had struck a pact not to poach each other's youth players, but Leverkusen felt that the outstanding promise being shown by the 16-year-old was something they just couldn't ignore. Rudi Voller, the legendary German striker who won the World Cup in 1990, was Leverkusen's technical director. He explained: "Failing to sign Wirtz at that age would have been negligent - and he was going to leave them when his contract expired that summer anyway." Wirtz continued his studies at his new club, getting top marks in advanced maths, advanced geography, German and biology. But within five months of moving to Leverkusen, at the age of just 17 years and 15 days, he made his Bundesliga debut against Werder Bremen and in doing so overtook Kai Havertz as the club's youngest-ever player. Even then he had a talent for producing the unexpected both on and off the pitch. Fans were shocked when he admitted that he always opted to play as rivals Bayern Munich during games of FIFA. And when asked who he admired most amongst his contemporaries, he named Joao Felix, the Portuguese striker who is now famous for being another big-money Chelsea misfit. "Joao Felix is a similar type of player to me," said Wirtz. "He's very creative and I learn a lot from him." Yet it was that same bloody-minded attitude that drove Wirtz into returning to fitness just 272 days after rupturing a cruciate ligament against old foes Koln in 2022, an injury that would force him to miss the World Cup. Club medics were constantly urging the midfielder to slow down, but Wirtz would turn up for rehabilitation sessions even when ordered to have a day off. With an attitude like that, he will fit straight in at Anfield. Join our new WhatsApp community and receive your daily dose of Mirror Football content.
