UN Probe Finds Evidence of Torture in Myanmar
The report details systematic torture in Myanmar prisons and detention center, naming senior government figures responsible for these atrocities.
It includes detailed incidents of detainees receiving beatings, electric shocks, strangulation, and finger-nail removal with pliers.
The report also documented the abuse of children, who have been detained unlawfully as proxies for missing parents and family members.
Nicholas Koumjian, head of the UN-led mechanism, said in a statement accompanying the organization's 16-page report: 'We have uncovered significant evidence, including eyewitness testimony, showing systematic torture in Myanmar detention facilities.'
The report equally included findings covering a period over a year, using information from more than 1,300 sources, including hundreds of witness accounts, forensic analysis, photographs and documents.
The IMM has also identified high-ranking commanders among the perpetrators involved in the torture and abuse which has occurred across the country.
A country in unending turmoil
Since the 2021 military coup against the democratic government, the country has been in turmoil and is currently going through a civil war. The UN estimates that tens of thousands of people have been affected by harsh crackdowns.
Refugees, mainly from the Rohingya Muslim minority, have also been attacked in recent years, with many members of the ethnic minority having fled to countries like Bangladesh.
The UN-affiliated organization has been monitoring human rights abuses dating back to 2011 in Myanmar and reflects on this period of military governance, negatively.
However, budget cuts have recently placed the UN body under threat as they are struggling to find funding to continue their work.

He's a gang leader responsible for heinous human rights abuses, including violence against American citizens in Haiti.' Two other individuals, Bazile Richardson and Fredo the Lion, have been arrested in the US in connection with the case. They are believed to be responsible for soliciting money from Haitians living abroad to fund gang violence. Since the assassination of Juvenal Moise, the country has had a complete breakdown of law and order, and education and health services have collapsed. The country doesn't have a functioning government or police force, and its capital is one of the most dangerous places in the world. Despite a UN peacekeeping force supplied by Kenya there has been very little progress in bringing peace back to the country. Therefore, it is extremely unlikely that Barbecue will face justice for his crimes as he is heavily protected by his soldiers. There are now serious problems in Haiti beyond the gang violence around 5.7 million people, over 50% of the population, now face acute food insecurity. ‘Unprecedented Disaster': Macron Slams Israel's Plan to Occupy Gaza

A single missile wiped out six journalists in the blink of an eye, five of them working for Al Jazeera. The plight of Palestinians continues to deteriorate, with an already apocalyptic humanitarian crisis descending further into catastrophe since March 2, when Israel sealed the border crossings and used starvation as a weapon in its genocidal assault. According to Gaza's Health Ministry, Israeli strikes over the past 24 hours have killed 68 people and wounded 326. Among the dead, 29 were gunned down while trying to obtain aid.
