Wings star Paige Bueckers set for lone Brooklyn stop against Liberty
The Liberty will host the Wings star rookie, who made the All-Star game and has averaged 18.5 points per game this season after being the top pick in April, on Tuesday night in a rematch from last week — when a woeful Dallas team, stumbling through plenty of growing pains with a new-look roster and first-year coach, shocked the Liberty at College Park Center.

Bueckers collected 20 points, six rebounds and four assists during the win, and now the shorthanded Liberty will be tasked with trying to contain her again in front of a crowd likely featuring plenty of No. 5 jerseys.
Bueckers was named the WNBA's Rookie of the Month for July — the second consecutive month she earned the honor — on Monday after averaging 18.2 points, 5.2 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game, and during their game Wednesday against the Dream, she tied Cynthia Cooper as the fastest player in WNBA history to reach 400 points and 100 assists by doing so in just her 22nd game.
It has provided a fitting encore to 2024, when Caitlin Clark entered the league as the No. 1 pick, rewrote record after record and turned games — both at home and on the road — into glimpses of the reach of her stardom.

Bueckers' campaign won't feature a taste of the postseason, with the Wings at 8-21 and well outside of the playoff picture, but their win against the Liberty served as the signature victory of her era in Dallas so far.
It was unexpected, even with the Liberty down Breanna Stewart, Kennedy Burke and Nyara Sabally.

It was surprising, given the separation between the teams in the standings.
And now, Bueckers will get a chance to replicate that.
Sabrina Ionescu has led the league in scoring (25.6 points per game) since the All-Star break, and on Monday was named Eastern Conference Player of the Month for July — the fifth time in her career she took one of the league's monthly awards and the first time during the 2025 campaign.

Across the Liberty's 10 games, Ionescu averaged 21.4 points, 6.6 assists and 5.5 rebounds, and it marked her best calendar month of scoring since last July (23.2).
Her campaign to repeat in August got off to a scorching start, too, when she poured in 36 points — on a career-best 14 made field goals — Sunday.
She also collected 23 points Friday when the Liberty lost to Connecticut.
And with Stewart set to miss the next chunk of the season due to a bone bruise in her right knee, the Liberty will need Ionescu to keep carrying the offense and helping replace the lost production of their other superstar.

Aaron Judge Injury: Yankees' Aaron Boone Gives Update, Return Date
Based on facts, either observed and verified firsthand by the reporter, or reported and verified from knowledgeable sources. Newsweek AI is in beta. Translations may contain inaccuracies—please refer to the original content. The New York Yankees have been ice cold since the All-Star break and there's no shortage of blame to go around. The defense has been bad at times, the baserunning has been lazy and some players haven't played to their potential just yet. But the team has also been without the best hitter in baseball, Aaron Judge, for 10 games. Losing Judge changes everything for the Yankees. He's a game changer in the middle of the lineup that makes everybody's lives easier. As Judge has sat on the injured list with a forearm/elbow injury, the Yankees have struggled, but the slugger could be eyeing his triumphant return to the team, just in time to finish the postseason push. MIAMI, FLORIDA - AUGUST 02: New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone and Aaron Judge #99 look on during batting practice prior to a game against the Miami Marlins at loanDepot park on August 02, 2025... MIAMI, FLORIDA - AUGUST 02: New York Yankees manager Aaron Boone and Aaron Judge #99 look on during batting practice prior to a game against the Miami Marlins at loanDepot park on August 02, 2025 in Miami, Florida. MoreAccording to Yankees manager Aaron Boone, Judge will be activated from the IL on Tuesday, likely to return as a designated hitter until the slugger's elbow is completely healed. Judge suffered a flexor strain, an injury that doesn't typically impact a hitter and their swing. It's usually an injury that isn't felt unless throwing the ball, so Judge should have the green light to return as the DH with no restrictions there. This, obviously, causes an issue with the Yankees lineup, as their everyday DH, Giancarlo Stanton, hasn't played the field in well over a year. Stanton's lower body injuries have heavily impacted his mobility over the years. Stanton is also getting hot right now, so it would be tough to move him out of the lineup, but Judge can't be benched for anybody. It'll be very interesting to see the Yankees' first lineup with Judge returning on Tuesday, likely as the DH. More MLB: MLB Rumors: Phillies Predicted To Cut Ties With 11-Year Veteran

"At 25, I was drinking a six-pack of beer a week and chillin" - James Worthy says Lakers fans shouldn't be worried about Luka Doncic's weight concerns
"At 25, I was drinking a six-pack of beer a week and chillin" - James Worthy says Lakers fans shouldn't be worried about Luka Doncic's weight concerns originally appeared on Basketball Network. Luka Doncic's offseason has already become a story. His recent appearance on the cover of "Men's Health" was meant to spotlight his training habits and a more focused approach to fitness, but it also stirred the pot. Last season, weight and conditioning were regular talking points surrounding Doncic, especially as the Dallas Mavericks collapsed and shockingly traded him to the Los Angeles Lakers. There had been rumblings for months that Doncic's fitness was a problem in Dallas. Whether it was practice habits, defensive effort or late-game fatigue, the criticism pointed in the same direction. For some, Los Angeles feels like a pressure cooker that might expose the worst of those habits. But for others, this might be the environment he needs. Lakers legend James Worthy falls into the second group. He isn't worried about Doncic being in shape or adjusting to the demands of a franchise with championship expectations. In fact, he sees a lot of himself in the 26-year-old. "At 25, I was drinking a six-pack of beer a week and chillin'. I didn't get it until I was 28 or 29," Worthy said, reflecting on his early years in the league. "Hopefully him coming to L.A. will change some of his strategies. Also, it is Los Angeles too. It's not Dallas. You could have some pitfalls if you don't watch yourself. I think Luka understands where he is right now in his career." The environment matters Worthy knows what the L.A. spotlight does to a player. You either grow into it or it pushes you out. What gives him confidence is the structure around Doncic. Playing with LeBron James, even for one season, changes how a player views his work habits. There is a culture in place, and that culture starts with being serious about the work. Worthy believes that it will matter more than any media criticism or fan reaction. Doncic has always had talent. That has never been the issue. The only question has been how badly he wants to maximize it. "He could be the best in the NBA if he wants. And you're talking about a lot of talent," Worthy said on SiriusXM NBA Radio. "LeBron is going to take him to the gym. He's going to the gym. He's going to look at that diet. Maybe even nightlife, I don't know. Luka is going to adapt to what's going on in that locker room."A new chapter continues There is also something to be said about change itself. Sometimes players need a wake-up call, and the way things ended in Dallas may have provided exactly that. The trade didn't just move Doncic to a new team but sent a message that even elite players can find themselves on the wrong side of a franchise if priorities don't line up. For the Lakers, it is a bet on talent. But for Luka Magic, this might be the first time in his career where the setting forces him to evolve. The days of being a young star with space to figure it out are over. In LA, expectations come quickly and the excuses run out fast. Laker Nation isn't expecting perfection. It has just seen enough to believe growth is possible. If the stories about Doncic's new focus are true and if the mentorship from veterans like James lands the right way, then this new chapter doesn't have to repeat the old story was originally reported by Basketball Network on Aug 4, 2025, where it first appeared.
