Sky Sports' football plan is 66p a day ahead of Premier League and EFL season
We're now two weeks away from the new Premier League season and football fans are being offered Sky Sports for 66p per day off on August 15, with title holders Liverpool facing Bournemouth at Anfield.
The opening weekend is packed with must-see fixtures, including the likes of Wolves vs Man City, Chelsea vs Crystal Palace and Man United vs Arsenal. Each of these games will be shown exclusively on Sky Sports as the broadcaster increases its Premier League coverage from 128 matches to a minimum of 215 from this season.
Sky says this is 80% of all televised Premier League matches. To catch all these fixtures – on top of more than 1,000 live games across the EFL, SPFL, WSL and Bundesliga – football fans must secure a Sky Sports subscription, which costs £20 per month in an introductory offer.
This works out at roughly 66p per day over 30 days and provides access to nine Sky Sports channels including Main Event, Premier League, Football, F1, Golf and Tennis. It also includes the recently launched Sky Sports+ channel at no extra cost, which offers live streams of more than 1,000 live EFL games, every Carabao Cup fixture and every match from the men's Rugby Super League.
The only catch is that those without an existing Sky package will need to pair Sky Sports with a TV and Netflix plan. However, these combined plans were revamped last year and now start at £35 for Essential TV and Sky Sports.
This comes with more than 100 regular TV channels such as Sky Atlantic, along with free Netflix and Discovery+ subscriptions. Customers can also add TNT Sports to the package for an extra £20, far cheaper than the £30.99 it costs to join direct through Discovery+ Premium, to enjoy next season's European competitions.
Sky's deal comes as Virgin Media launches its rival Summer of Sports sale, which offers big discounts across its own Sky Sports packages until September 2. These start with the Bigger Combo bundle + Sports, which comes with more than 200 TV channels, including eight from Sky Sports such as Main Event, Football and F1.
It also has 516Mbps fibre broadband, all of which has been reduced from £65.99 to £54.99 – £264 saving. A downside to both Sky and Virgin's plans is that customers will see at least two bill increases in their 24-month term as each provider raises their prices every April.
This year, Sky introduced a 6.2% increase to its TV customers but is yet to confirm next year's chance. Virgin has already confirmed the Bigger Combo bundle + Sports will rise to £58.49 from April 2026 and £61.99 from April 2027.
What sets Sky apart from its rivals is the opportunity to cancel a contract after a price rise is announced, not something offered by Virgin.

Arsenal 'waiting' on Real Madrid transfer decision with Rodrygo
Arsenal remain in the running to sign Rodrygo but are waiting to see if Real Madrid will approve a loan deal, according to reports. The 24-year-old's future at Madrid has looked uncertain since the arrival of Xabi Alonso at the end of May. Rodrygo started just one of Madrid's six matches at the Club World Cup this summer and played a combined total of 92 minutes across the tournament. Rodrygo is said to be intent on staying at Madrid for the upcoming season and wants to work his way into Alonso's plans. However, The Times report that Arsenal are still keeping tabs on Rodrygo's situation and will consider a move if a potential loan deal is offered by Madrid. In The Mixer: Exclusive analysis, FPL tips and transfer talk sent straight to your inbox every week – click here and sign up before Friday to make sure you don't miss the first edition. The report adds that Arsenal are still planning to make an approach to Crystal Palace over a deal for Eberechi Eze, whose £68 million release clause expires on August 15. More Trending Meanwhile, Spanish radio station Cadena SER reported this week that Tottenham are also in the running to sign Rodrygo and are considering a €60m (£52m) offer for the Brazil international. Madrid are said to be open to offers for Rodrygo but are not actively looking to sell the winger before the end of the summer transfer window. Last season, reports also suggested that Rodrygo was unhappy with his position in Madrid's attack as he prefers to play on the left rather than the regular right-sided role he was given by Carlo Ancelotti. Rodrygo endured a difficult end to last season under Ancelotti and then with Alonso at the Club World Cup, scoring just once and registering two assists in 25 appearances since the start of February. Dave Allen makes surprise career announcement ahead of Arslanbek Makhmudov clash
Dave Allen has revealed that he intends to have one more fight if he beats Arslanbek Makhmudov on 11 October at the Sheffield Arena, and then retire. Allen, 24-7-2 (19), told Sky Sports that he is motivated by his underdog status and that he will be 'really rich' if he beats Makhmudov, 20-2 (19), planning a swift exit from the sport after one more fight. Allen said: 'The motivation is I'll be really rich if I beat him. I'm not bothered by him, I just want to beat him, have another big fight and then hopefully chill out for the rest of my life. That's the plan.' When it was announced that Allen would take on the towering Makhmudov, it shocked many who thought he was going to take a run at the British title after his knockout win over Johnny Fisher. But it seems he wants to prove himself on the world stage. Allen said that he performs better when he is expected to lose, believing he has the right style to beat a man like Makhmudov. Allen explained: 'I think I thrive off the underdog tag I've had most of my career; every time I've been expected to win, I get beat, I'm not very good with pressure. That's why I picked Makhmudov: I think a lot of people will expect him to beat me, but I like that and I like to shock. 'I think I can beat him. I am the underdog, but I think I've got the right style to beat him.' Makhmudov is coming off a mixed run of form. He is 2-2 in his last four fights, having lost to WBC interim champion Agit Kabayel and Guido Vianello. But Allen believes the danger posed by his opponent will help him fulfil his dream of headlining and selling out the Sheffield Arena. Allen said: 'He's big, dangerous, somebody that will help fill Sheffield Arena out, and if I beat him, it will send me on to big fights. I'm over the moon, it's something I've always wanted to do.'
