Randy Orton's Injury Update: Backstage news on the Viper after the dangerous match against Cody Rhodes

Time of India30-06-2025
Randy Orton battled with Cody Rhodes in a brutal King of the Ring final at WWE Night of Champions 2025 in Riyadh that had fans worrying for the Viper's well-being. It was as emotional as the match was physical, with Orton getting a superplex, which is always a high-risk maneuver, early in the contest.

He landed on his back, making that even more worrying since he had spinal surgery last year. Even as the match continued, it was clear Orton was in some sort of pain. Each movement was something unusual, and his fans could see that he was wincing in pain.
Medical concerns and latest update over Randy Orton's back injury
Randy Orton reportedly aggravated a past spinal injury, according to backstage reports. Due to severe back problems, he'd been out for almost a year and a half during the 2022-23 season when he returned from intensive rehab and surgery.
WWE officials and medical staff immediately raised red flags upon seeing him walk off after the match, favoring one side, hunched.
WWE doctors are still assessing the damage. There hasn't been an official statement yet, but sources familiar with the condition of Orton say that he is in a great deal of agony and could end up needing time away. Orton's post-match body language was also talked about in wrestling circles as not being part of any angle; he was hurt, and it was real pain and frustration in the backstage area as wrestling kayfabe saw fears of an injury setback.
With SummerSlam fast approaching, there are also rumors that if Orton is unable to compete (possibly in the near future), WWE may change some creative plans.
Potential impact and SummerSlam implications
The assumption was a new long-term feud with Rhodes having just punched his ticket to SummerSlam, most likely with the opportunity to challenge for the world title. Still, that plot may be in jeopardy due to Orton's current conditions. Should the Viper require time off or rehabilitation, WWE would be left to alter course and provide Rhodes with the likes of John Cena or CM Punk, both of whom find themselves in the title conversation, as a new opponent.

How WWE builds its main event scene in the future is going to depend largely on Randy Orton's health. The company could also be saving Orton's return for a bigger pop later this year. As of now, fans and officials alike are hoping this isn't the start of another long injury layoff for one of WWE's most respected veterans.

WWE RAW: Becky Lynch Humiliates Nikki Bella With John Cena Reference

Last Updated: Bella was embarrassed at Monday Night Raw in Brooklyn when Lynch referenced John Cena. Lynch, celebrating her SummerSlam win, humiliated Bella, sparking a confrontation. Nikki Bella's appearance for Monday Night Raw at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York, on August 4 resulted in embarrassment for the WWE wrestler as she was subjected to a reference to the legendary John Cena. The incident saw women's Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch humiliate Cena's ex-girlfriend by mentioning his famous 'You can't see him" line inside the ring, amidst loud cheers from a packed crowd in New York. As the feud unfolded at Raw, Lynch came out to address her triumph at the SummerSlam 2025, where she defeated Lyra Valkyria and defended her Intercontinental Championship belt. The result meant that Lyra could no longer challenge Lynch for the prized silverware as long as she remained champion. For Becky Lynch, however, Raw was an opportunity to express her desire to take on new competitors for the belt she proudly adorned. Just as the champion opened up about eyeing a fresh challenge for the title, Nikki Bella's music hit the arena. speechless rn holy shhhhhhhh….. 😲😳 — WWE (@WWE) August 5, 2025 Bella entered the ring and confronted Lynch, telling her she was proud of all her accomplishments and equally fine handing over the women's division to her after stepping away. But The Man turned out to be a disappointment and has handcuffed the women's division. Things took a personal turn when Nikki Bella called Becky Lynch a liar, just like her husband, stating that the only difference is that Seth Rollins' lies are a little more believable. In response, Lynch claimed she and Seth are the greatest WWE couple of all time and tried to get under Bella's skin by sarcastically saying Bella and Cena could've held the tag. But the WWE Hall of Famer and her legendary ex-partner are no longer together. 'Oh wait, you can't see him anymore," Becky Lynch said, while doing the famous Cena move in front of her. As is known, Bella and Cena were in a relationship for several years, parts of which also played out fondly in WWE episodes, before the couple got separated in April 2018, just weeks before their wedding. Fuming inside, Nikki Bella eventually challenged Becky Lynch for the Intercontinental Championship match. The segment then ended with Lynch punching Nikki in the face, providing a snapshot to fans of what to expect from their fight. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. WWE Star Suffers Devastating Injury At SummerSlam, Out of Action Indefinitely

In a major development, former World Heavyweight Champion Gunther has been ruled out of action indefinitely following a severe injury sustained at the recent WWE SummerSlam. The announcement came during the latest episode of Monday Night RAW. The Catastrophic Injury at SummerSlam The Austrian powerhouse's nightmare unfolded during his championship defense against CM Punk at SummerSlam's opening night. Gunther suffered a severe facial injury after a brutal table spot that left him bloodied and battered. The visual of 'The Ring General" emerging from beneath the announcement table with crimson streaming down his face raised concerns. WWE commentator Michael Cole delivered the sobering update to the RAW audience, revealing the full extent of Gunther's injuries. Cole announced that the former champion had suffered 'a septal hematoma and orbital blowout fracture" during his clash with CM Punk, injuries severe enough to sideline him for an indefinite period. A Chaotic Championship Night The night pushed Gunther to the sidelines also marked the end of his impressive 53-day World Heavyweight Championship reign. After absorbing punishment throughout the grueling encounter, he ultimately succumbed to CM Punk's relentless assault, losing his coveted title in heartbreaking fashion. However, the chaos didn't end there, as Seth Rollins immediately capitalised on the situation, cashing in his Money in the Bank briefcase to steal the championship from a vulnerable Punk. The Reality Behind the Storyline While the on-screen narrative presents a clear cause for Gunther's absence, wrestling insiders have revealed a more complex situation. According to reports from Wrestling Observer , the bloody conclusion to the Gunther-Punk match was strategically planned to provide storyline justification for the Austrian's time away. Gunther was already scheduled to undergo legitimate nose surgery. The wrestling veteran had been dealing with a pre-existing nose issue that required surgical intervention, making the SummerSlam angle a convenient cover for his necessary medical procedure. End of a Dominant Era Gunther's forced absence concludes one of the most impressive championship runs in recent WWE history. Before capturing the World Heavyweight Title, he held the Intercontinental Championship for a record-shattering 666 days, establishing himself as one of WWE's most physically dominant and technically proficient performers. His hard-hitting European style and methodical approach had made him a cornerstone of Monday Night RAW programming. The timing of his injury creates significant ripple effects throughout WWE's creative landscape, as storylines will need to be restructured around his absence. Currently, no official timetable has been provided for Gunther's return to action, leaving the wrestling world anxiously awaiting updates on his recovery progress. As WWE moves forward without one of its most reliable main event players, fans can only hope that Gunther will make a full recovery and return to reclaim his position at the top of the company's hierarchy. WWE RAW results (08/04/2025): Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss retain tag team title, Nikki Bella confronts Becky Lynch, CM Punk interrupts Seth Rollins vs vs LA Knight, and more

WWE RAW (Image via WWE) The August 4th episode of Monday Night RAW was going to see the aftermath of the Biggest Party of the Summer, and that is exactly what fans got. From Seth Rollins and his faction - Oracle, Paul Heyman and his crew, Bronson Reed and Bron Breakker, to a face that had taken a backseat for a while - tonight's episode has a lot going on For the show in Center in Brooklyn, New York, appearances by new WWE World Heavyweight Champion Seth Rollins, WWE Women's Intercontinental Champion Becky Lynch, and WWE Women's Tag-Team Champions from SmackDown, Alexa Bliss & Charlotte Flair, are already set. As is the case with the rematch between Rusev and Sheamus, which is going to take place as well. Let's see what the aftermath of the SummerSlam episode has in store for us. Opening segment of Monday Night RAW (08/04/2025) The episode started with Seth Rollins and his faction walking onto the stage, with the former holding on to his brand-new WWE World Heavyweight Championship belt. Rollins addressed the crowd, gloating about his win. But while this was going on, none other than LA Knight showed up, mocking the others for what happened at SummerSlam. There was a bit of back and forth before Rollins decided he wasn't going to just stand there and listen. He walked out of the ring with his crew, leaving a smirking LA KNIGHT behind. And just when we thought this was done, the RAW General Manager walked in and announced that Rollins would have to pay the price for cheating and defend his title against Knight later tonight. Backstage, Dominik Mysterio - who is walking alongside his Judgment Day stablemates encounters Dragon Lee, and after a confrontation, they have a match set for later tonight. Rusev vs. Sheamus The opening match for tonight saw Rusev and Sheamus come together for a chaotic fight. It was intense from the beginning, as both men wanted this rematch to assert their dominance over the other. The match, though, ended in a draw after a Double Count Out. But both men were unwilling to let go of each other until the very end, and even then, the two continued until officials had to break them up before things could escalate even further. Draw - Double count out. Penta vs. Grayson Waller The next match of the night is Penta vs. Grayson Waller, and as soon as the bell rings, they both are ready. Grayson Waller starts off by shoving Penta, while the latter goes for a waist-lock. The audience sees them trading knees before hitting a double clothesline. Penta then goes for a handspring followed by a Mexican Destroyer, and finally with a corkscrew flip piledriver, Penta gets a pin and win. Penta defeats Grayson Waller via pinfall. WWE Women's Tag Team Championship As the current winners of the WWE Women's Tag Team Championship, Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss , walk in together to celebrate their victory. But soon enough, the Judgment Day duo of Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez interrupt to challenge the Alliance of Convenience. They get the permission from Pearce for an official fight, but Flair and Bliss make quick work of their opponents. And after Bliss hits a Sister Abigail on Perez, it's an easy win to retain their championship. Charlotte Flair and Alexa Bliss defeat Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez via pinfall. Backstage, Iyo Sky is seen chatting with the Kabuki Warriors in Japanese before Rhea Ripley comes in, asking to talk to her. She said she knows Iyo went to Adam Pearce to get a singles rematch, and Iyo reminds her that she wasn't the one who got pinned. To this, Ripley said nothing would make her happier than Iyo beating Naomi in a singles match so that Mami can come for Iyo herself. Iyo just answers cheekily that she would never be able to beat her before walking away. Elsewhere, Bayley is seen waiting for Lyra Valkyria, who essentially lost the match against Becky Lynch at Summerslam after getting knocked off by Bayley. The latter tries to apologize, but Valkyria is having none of it and walks off without saying more. Dominik Mysterio vs. Dragon Lee Dominik Mysterio goes for the first hit, but it's Dragon Lee who seems to have more power in this fight. But don't underestimate Dirty Dom, who chokes Lee on the middle rope and goes for a 619. Though Lee dodged that and almost gained the upper hand on his opponent, the appearance of not one but three El Grande Americanos led him to be confused, and taking advantage of this confusion, Mysterio got his pin and win. Dominik Mysterio defeats Dragon Lee to retain the WWE Intercontinental Championship. Becky Lynch comes in after her win against Lyra Valkyria at SummerSlam to address the audience, saying she is open to new competition. And just then a familiar music plays and in walks Nikki Bella. They exchange a couple of jabs, as Nikki calls Lynch a disappointment. Lynch finally had had enough of the Hall of Famer, and walked off the stage, but not before sucker punching Bella. Backstage, Naomi was interviewed about her big win at Summerslam, where she revealed that next week, she has a one-on-one fight with Iyo Sky. Just then, Stephanie Vaquer comes in to remind Naomi that Vaquer will be challenging a title at Clash in Paris, no matter who is holding the belt. Naomi says it will be her. Elsewhere, Becky Lynch, after her confrontation on stage with Nikki Bella, encounters Natalya and her Alpha Academy. Natalya challenges The Man for a match, and though she accepts, it's not against Neidhart but Maxxine Dupri. WWE World Heavyweight Championship Finally, the stage is set for the last match of the night - Seth Rollins vs. LA Knight. After challenging the current and brand new World Heavyweight Champion, Seth Rollins, and having the fight made official by RAW GM, Adam Pearce, Knight is finally on stage to face his opponent. It's pretty intense from the beginning, and Rollins looks like he is in control of the situation. Knight is taking on hits, and would have taken more if CM Punk had not jumped the barricade to attack The Visionary. Seth Rollins wins by Disqualification. Everyone is here, The Vision attacks CM Punk for attacking Rollins as Bron Breakker comes running in like a bull to hit Punk with a Spear. LA Knight is also hit in the process. The Vision are the winners of the night, but oh well! None other than Roman Reigns is here. He takes out both Bronson Reed and Breakker as Rollins watches from inside the ring. It doesn't take long for The Vision to destroy Reigns though, while Heyman watches from the sideline with satisfaction. The night comes to an end.
