Did Knives Out 3 trailer drop hints of who would be the central victim of the mystery film? Here's what we know
'Wake Up Dead Man: The Knives Out Mystery' - the film's name that has kept the fans awake, after the mysterious trailer for the third instalment of
Rian Johnson
's franchise was released. However, the greatest part about the trailer is not who stars in it, but who seems absent.
Who is likely to be murdered in
Knives Out 3
?
During the trailer launch at Tudum 2025, besides the confirmation of the cast and the eerie tone of the movie, nothing much was confirmed. However, the absent cast member in the trailer drops a hint about who would be the central victim of the film, according to Screen Rant.
From the observations, along with the possible casualties later in the film, the trailer hints that Simone Vivane (Cailee Spaeny) becomes the primary murder victim.
While the speculation is not officially confirmed, Benoit Blanc is seen quite often alongside the other characters, but not Simone Viviane.
The cast members who starred in the trailer
Others who featured in the trailer, who were around the scene of the crime, include Josh O'Connor, Glenn Close, Josh Brolin,
Mila Kunis
,
Jeremy Renner
, Kerry Washington,
Andrew Scott
, and
Daryl McCormack
. In fact, along with Cailee Spaeny, Thomas Haden Church does not appear in the trailer as well, hinting at the roles that revolve around the victim.
Who would be the suspect in Knives Out 3?
In the list of confirmed characters, such as Mila Kunis' role as police detective Geraldine Scott, who would be assisting Benoit Blanc instead of being questioned, Andrew Scott has been shown with a knife, suggesting that he would likely be the central suspect that would shape the film.
With its gothic tone and visually ghastly visuals, 'Wake Up Dead Man: The Knives Out Mystery' perhaps serve as a darker version than the previous films of the franchise. If Cailee Spaeny's character turns out to be the central victim, the death of a young woman would serve a darker perspective as well.

Siddharth Nigam's mother reveals he was replaced by Ajay Devgn's nephew Aaman Devgan in Azaad with Rasha Thadani: 'Both of them were star kids...'
Siddharth Nigam, an outsider in Bollywood, faced disappointment when he was replaced in the film *Azaad* by star kids Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani. Despite initial consideration and script narration, Nigam waited two years only to discover the film proceeded with the newcomers. While acknowledging the industry's realities, Nigam focused on moving forward after the emotional setback. In an industry where star power often outweighs merit, the struggles of outsiders continue to echo. Actor Siddharth Nigam's journey is the latest reminder. His mother has now revealed that Siddharth was originally in line to debut in Azaad—until he was replaced by star kids Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani . In conversation with Instant Bollywood, Siddharth's mother opened up about the challenges of being an outsider in the film industry, highlighting a personal experience with Azaad. She shared that Siddharth was initially considered for the film and even had the script narrated to him. However, after waiting for nearly two years, they discovered through a poster that the movie had been made—with Ajay Devgn 's nephew Aaman Devgan and Raveena Tandon's daughter Rasha Thadani in the lead. She admitted it was a tough moment, especially as a mother, and felt the final casting decision may have been influenced by the star lineage of the newcomers. Siddharth also reflected on the situation, acknowledging the realities of the industry. Without placing blame, he shared that it's part of the business, and those involved likely had their own reasons for the decision. For him, it was more about the emotional toll—waiting with hope for a year, only to find out through the teaser that someone else had been cast. In the end, he said, it became a moment of quiet acceptance and simply moving on. The period action drama, directed by Abhishek Kapoor and produced by Ronnie Screwvala and Pragya Kapoor, marked the debut of Aaman Devgan and Rasha Thadani, starring alongside Ajay Devgn and Diana Penty. Despite the high-profile cast and production, the film opened to mixed-to-negative reviews and failed to make a mark at the box office, earning just Rs 8 crore worldwide. Language row: Kamal Haasan refuses apology, holds film's release in K'taka
Tamil Nadu actor and politician Kamal Haasan has refused to apologise for his comment that the Kannada language was "born out of Tamil", despite the Karnataka High Court also criticising him for the comment. He has also decided not to release his film 'Thug Life' in Karnataka as of now. The film is scheduled to premiere nationwide on Thursday, but faces calls for its ban in Karnataka over Kamal Haasan's comments. The actor had approached the HC seeking directions to prevent any obstruction to the film's release in the state. The controversy arose after Kamal Haasan's statement at an event in Chennai before the launch of 'Thug Life,' claiming Kannada originated from Tamil. The remark attracted almost instantaneous criticism from political parties, including the BJP in Karnataka and AIADMK in Tamil Nadu. Karnataka BJP chief V Yediyurappa accused Kamal Haasan of insulting the Kannada language. During Tuesday's court hearing, senior advocate Dhyan Chinnappa, representing Kamal Haasan, stated "...the utmost respect for Kannada and nothing more needs to be said..." but did not issue an apology as requested by the court. Chinnappa also withdrew a petition seeking security at Karnataka theatres. The court responded by saying the refusal to apologise appeared to be due to ego. "If it is a reply of apology, we will take it. There is no apology in it. You may be Kamal Haasan or anybody, you cannot hurt the sentiments of the masses,' the HC bench said. The court suggested that if Kamal Haasan apologises, the issue could be resolved. Kamal Haasan had earlier said he would apologise if he believed his remarks were incorrect. The next hearing is set for June 10. Earlier, the court warned Kamal Haasan against misusing his right to free speech. The court stated that while free speech is a right, it does not extend to hurting public sentiments. The court urged the actor to apologise if his comments caused offence. The Karnataka Film Chamber of Commerce (KFCC) had declared that 'Thug Life' would not be released in Karnataka without an apology from Kamal Haasan. KFCC President M Narasimhulu said Kamal Haasan maintained he had done nothing wrong and would not apologise, which would prevent the film's release.

IPL Finals: Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Punjab Kings are fighting it out for the final match of the Indian Premier League. Actor Aamir Khan, who is gearing up for the release of his upcoming film Sitaare Zameen Par, was present at the stadium with the live Hindi and Bhojpuri commentary during RCB's innings. Aamir, who is considered to be a perfectionist when it comes to his films, was asked which cricketer would suit the same title. (Also read: IPL 2025 final: Shankar Mahadevan honours Indian armed forces, adds patriotic touch to closing ceremony) Aamir Khan said he considered Sachin Tendulkar as a perfectionist. In the present, he thinks Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah suit the same title. For the unversed, Sachin Tendulkar retired on November 16, 2013. Three years after Tendulkar's retirement, Kohli stepped up and took his game even where Tendulkar didn't. In 2023, Kohli went on to break Tendulkar's record for the most ODI centuries. Kohli is currently playing with Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. Meanwhile, Jasprit is a right-arm fast bowler, who is renowned for his exceptional skill across all three formats of the game. Recently, during the IPL 2025 match against Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium, Bumrah surpassed Sri Lanka and MI lead Lasith Malinga to become the franchise's highest wicket-taker in IPL history, reaching a staggering 171 wickets. Aamir's Sitaare Zameen Par marks his return to the big screen after Laal Singh Chadha. It is a spiritual sequel to Aamir's hit film Taare Zameen Par. The film sees the superstar playing the role of a basketball coach, alongside Genelia D'Souza and ten other debutant actors. Helmed by R. S. Prasanna and produced by Aamir Khan and Aparna Purohit, the sports drama is scheduled to hit cinemas on 20 June.
