WARMINGTON: Peel cops find two murder suspects in B.C., wanted for Brampton killing

Yahoo3 days ago

Two 21-year-old men from India who are in Canada on international student visas have been accused of first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of a Brampton man.
The fact that Aman Aman and Digvijay Digvijay — both of Delta, B.C. — were captured out west and flown back to the GTA where Peel Regional Police officers charged them Sunday was already a major development in the May 16 slaying of 51-year-old Harjeet Dhadda.
But public sector sources told The Toronto Sun that each of these men were in Canada on education visas and have been so for two years. It's not known why they travelled to the GTA and were allegedly here when this shocking murder occurred near Pearson International Airport.
'On Wednesday, May 14, 2025, at approximately 11:49 a.m., Harjeet Dhadda, a 51-year-old commercial insurance broker from Brampton, was (allegedly) approached by the suspect and shot multiple times while in a parking lot near Tranmere Drive and Telford Way in Mississauga,' contended Peel Regional Police. 'The victim later succumbed to his injuries (two days later) at a local hospital.'
Police said a stolen Dodge Charger was used as a get-away vehicle following the fatal shooting.
On that day, all police had to work with was a man shot outside of his truck and a car fleeing the scene.
With the help of some security video footage, police said they determined 'the suspects fled in a stolen 2018 Black Dodge Challenger, which was recovered shortly following the incident.'
But that was about it. The killers seemed to vanish into thin air.
Peel Homicide detectives got involved and started doing some old-fashioned gumshoe work. With the help of this victim's family and other leads, their investigation took them to B.C.
In just two weeks, they had suspects in custody.
'After an intensive investigation, two suspects were identified and tracked to Delta, B.C.,' said police. 'On May 28, Peel Regional Police, with assistance from officers with the Delta Police Department, Abbotsford Police, Surrey Police and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, located and arrested Aman and Digvijay, 21-year-old men from Delta, B.C.'
The allegations have not been tested in court.
This was a very fast turnaround considering police had to locate and detain suspects as well as build a case that detectives alleged justifies pre-meditated murder charges.
'Despite the suspects' (alleged) efforts to evade capture, our teams remained focused and relentless,' said Chief Nishan Duraiappah. 'This outcome sends a clear message — no matter how far you run, our teams will find you.'
Sometimes criminals forget, policing works in a coast-to-coast, 24/7 network.
'This arrest is a testament to the unwavering perseverance and diligence of our homicide investigators,' said Duraiappah. 'The strong collaboration with policing partners allows this family to take the next step toward justice for the loss of their loved one.'
And this family needed that. This was hell for them.
After the homicide, the victim's devastated daughter, Gurlin Dhadda, turned to social media to post: 'For the past few years, my father was receiving repeated threat and extortion calls. In April 2023, we even faced a possible attack.'
The family had expressed frustration, saying they did not get enough protection for Dhadda.
And while this arrest will not bring back their beloved family member, it does offer an opportunity at justice and provide some learning opportunities for government and police.
Peel Police have really focused on that.
In a video, Supt. David Kennedy acknowledged the hardship this senseless murder has had on the community and guarantees this investigation will continue.
Meanwhile, questions need to be asked about the vetting process of students from abroad and also the issue of ensuring the safety of people potentially at risk from those wanting to settle scores from their home countries.
In this case, authorities have not revealed the alleged motive, and this investigation is still very much underway.
Perhaps more arrests could come.

Driver raced 104 mph because he ‘liked the noise of the exhaust,' FL cops say

Illegal street racing has an allure of being exciting, but a driver pulled over for going 104 mph said it was the roaring sound that compelled him, according to investigators in Florida. The arrest happened just after 11 p.m. Tuesday, June 3, in Lehigh Acres, after a deputy spotted three vehicles traveling at a high rate of speed on six-lane Lee Boulevard, according to a Lee County Sheriff's Office affidavit. The speed limit in the area is 45 mph and radar 'clocked' the vehicles in the 100-mph range, officials said. All three were stopped, and among the drivers was an 18-year-old who noted he was 'racing a Dodge Charger because he liked the noise of the exhaust,' the sheriff's office reported. He was arrested and charged with a street racing/stunt driving violation, and his vehicle was impounded, the sheriff's office said. Details of the other drivers were not released. 'I have zero tolerance for street racing in Lee County,' Sheriff Carmine Marceno said in a June 5 news release. 'Driving an excessive speed and putting yourself, your passengers, and others on the road at risk is an incredibly selfish decision.' Lehigh Acres is about a 140-mile drive southeast from Tampa.

Feds offer $10K reward for info leading to arrest of cross-dressing Brooklyn gang member

The FBI is offering a $10,000 reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of a notorious Brooklyn gang member wanted for conspiracy to murder, who has previously eluded authorities by dressing as a woman, the agency announced. Cops have been looking for Joel Myrie, known on the street as 'Pookie,' since his alleged involvement in a drive-by shooting in Canarsie on Father's Day in June 2022 that left the 28-year-old victim severely wounded. According to authorities, Myrie is a member of No Love City (NLC), a Brooklyn-based offshoot of Gangster Disciples. In the 2022 shooting, Myrie and three associates got in a stolen orange Dodge Charger and drove into enemy-gang territory, where they opened fire into a group of rivals, striking the victim several times, according to court documents. As a part of the plan, three other alleged gang members drove two 'decoy cars' flanking the Dodge Charger, which were supposed to slow down authorities in case of a police chase. In August 2024, Myrie and the others were indicted on conspiracy to murder, racketeering and firearms charges. Authorities arrested six crew members in Brooklyn and Bridgeport, Conn. the day of the indictment. Myrie is the only one of the seven who hasn't been caught. Myrie may have evaded arrest by posing as a woman. On Sept. 10, he was seen wearing a dress and a 'long-haired wig,' according to the FBI. The FBI released two pictures of Myrie in the guise of a woman, one with long, straight hair held back by a pink checkered head band, and another of him posing demurely in a pattered blue cocktail dress and black boots, holding a white purse. It is unclear when those photographs were taken. The feds have built several cases aimed at taking down Gangster Disciples and No Love City in recent years. Also in 2024, four high-ranking members were sentenced to several decades in prison for a string of shootings in 2020 sparked by a stolen gold pendant and necklace. 'It is unknown if Myrie has maintained his altered appearance,' according to the FBI. Anyone with information is asked to call 1-800-CALL-FBI (1-800-225-5324) or report their tip online at

Court roundup: E.C. man accused of arson and Gary man acquitted in drug case

An East Chicago man was found not guilty Thursday of breaking into his ex-girlfriend's Gary apartment and setting the stove on fire. Two TVs, a soundbar and Amazon packages were also taken. It was the second trial for Anthony Gibbs, 32. He was charged with arson and burglary. He was found guilty at the first trial. However, the court of appeals overturned it, when it emerged late in the first trial that the detective had a cell phone video recording of hospital surveillance footage from across the street after prosecutors insisted the original footage had been purged. On Thursday, jurors asked his ex-girlfriend Mokeiva Carter more than 40 written questions — an unusually high number, signaling doubt for the overall case. Gary Police responded early on March 22, 2021, to the 500 block of Hayes Street. Deputy Prosecutor Jacquelyn Altpeter, trying the case with co-counsel Keith Anderson told jurors in opening statements that Cobb was the 'suspect since day one' and that Carter discovered a Roku account had been switched to Gibbs' sister after the TV went missing. Defense lawyer John Cantrell said there was a '45-second gap' in Methodist Hospitals Northlake's footage. The case was before Judge Salvador Vasquez. Jurors also acquitted a Gary man Tuesday after police found 17 grams of crack in a car during a traffic stop after he ran from the cops. Deangelo Lewis, 34, the driver, was found not guilty of possession of cocaine. A Lake County Sheriff's Deputy pulled over a Dodge Charger on Maryland Street in Gary on Oct. 11, 2023. Lewis ran because he had a warrant. He was arrested near 11th and Delaware Street. Another man and woman were in the car. They are not named in the charging affidavit. Defense lawyer Kirk Marrie said Wednesday that jurors may have thought it was 'unfair' to pin the drugs on his client when three people were in the car. Deputy Prosecutor Kasey Dafoe was assigned. The case was before Judge Samuel Cappas. Gary man sentenced to over 5 years for having gun as a felon A federal judge sentenced a Gary man Tuesday to 68 months in prison for having a gun as a felon. Antawan Smith, 35, pleaded guilty in February to being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm. He will also serve 12 months on supervised release. Gary Police arrested Smith after 10 p.m. Feb. 26, 2024 on the 4100 block of W. 23rd Place after women called police to report Smith had pulled a gun during an argument. Smith was convicted in 2013 of a murder in Cook County, court records state. Assistant U.S. Attorney Michael Toth prosecuted. Defense lawyer Brian Woodward represented Smith. The case was before Judge Philip Simon in the U.S. District Court in Hammond.
