Reliance fires on all cylinders, powering profit past 6% in Q4

Mumbai: Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) posted a 6.4% rise in March-quarter net profit from a year ago, exceeding estimates on the back of revenue growth in the oil-to-chemicals and consumer-facing units. The oil-to-telecom conglomerate posted profit after tax of ₹22,611 crore, up from ₹21,243 crore a year ago. Profit after tax for the full fiscal year rose 3% to ₹81,309 crore from ₹79,020 crore.RIL, which became the first Indian company to hit the milestone of ₹10 lakh crore net worth, said net profit attributable to owners of the company rose 2% to ₹19,407 crore in the March quarter from ₹18,951 crore a year earlier.A Bloomberg survey of analysts had pegged profit in the fourth quarter at about ₹18,471.40 crore.Revenue rose 8.8% to ₹2.88 lakh crore from ₹2.67 lakh crore in the year-ago period. FY25 revenue rose 7% to ₹10.71 lakh crore. Ebitda rose 2.9% year-on-year to ₹1.83 lakh crore. "FY2025 has been a challenging year for the global business environment, with weak macroeconomic conditions and a shifting geopolitical landscape," RIL chairman and managing director Mukesh Ambani said in a statement. RIL's focus on operational discipline, customer-centric innovation and fulfilling India's growth requirements helped Reliance deliver a steady financial performance during the year, he said.The board recommended a dividend of ₹5.5 per share. The RIL stock had ended at ₹1,300, down 0.12% on the BSE Friday. The benchmark Sensex closed 0.74% lower. Results were announced after market hours. In a separate announcement, RIL said its board approved a fundraising plan of ₹25,000 crore through the issuance of listed, secured/unsecured, redeemable non-convertible debentures (NCDs) in one or more tranches on a private placement basis. The firm will also buy a 100% stake in Kandla GHA Transmission Ltd (KGTL) from PFC Consulting Ltd for an aggregate consideration of ₹20 crore. After the deal, KGTL will become a wholly owned subsidiary.It said in a filing, "This is in accordance with the terms of the tender awarded to the company, for the establishment of turnkey construction of 765/400kV GIS substation at Kandla including transformers and reactors, 765kV transmission lines between Halvad and Kandla, 765kV bay extension at Halvad & Statcom."Jio Platforms Ltd (JPL), which houses Reliance Industries' telecom and digital businesses, posted a 25.7% year-on-year rise in fiscal fourth-quarter net profit, boosted by the tariff hikes of July 2024, backed by strong subscriber additions that boosted data use.The higher headline tariffs helped Jio boost March quarter average revenue per user (ARPU) 1.4% sequentially to ₹206.2 from ₹203.3 previously. Analysts said the limited ARPU growth showed the company was yet to derive the full benefit of tariff increases made last July because most users were consuming data for free, owing to bundled plans.JPL's consolidated net profit climbed to ₹7,022 crore in the March quarter from ₹5,587 crore a year earlier, and ₹6,861 crore in the preceding three-month period. The company reported a 17.8% on-year growth in revenue from operations to ₹39,853 crore for the just-ended quarter, reflecting continued data usage and ramp-up of 5G-based fixed wireless access (FWA) services.Segment revenue during the quarter rose 15.4% to ₹1.65 lakh crore due to higher volumes and increased domestic product placement. For FY25, it increased by 11% to ₹6.27 lakh crore primarily on account of higher volumes and increased domestic product placement. Segment Ebitda for FY25 was lower at ₹54,988 crore due to a significant weakness in transportation fuel cracks and subdued downstream chemical deltas."The oil-to-chemicals (O2C) business posted a resilient performance despite considerable volatility in energy markets. Significant demand-supply imbalances in downstream chemicals markets have led to multi-year low margins," said Ambani, adding that RIL's business teams ensured optimisation of integrated operations and feedstock costs to enhance margin capture across value chains.In the fourth quarter, oil and gas segment revenue was down 0.4% on account of lower gas production and oil offtake from KGD6. FY25 revenue was up 3.2% from FY24 mainly on account of higher volumes of KGD6 and coalbed methane (CBM). This was partly offset by lower gas and condensate price realisations, the company said. "The oil and gas business recorded its highest ever annual Ebitda led by higher production from our KGD6 and CBM blocks," Ambani said.Reliance Retail recorded gross revenue of ₹3.31 lakh crore for FY25, a growth of 7.9% over last year. In FY25, the business focused on a strategic recalibration of the store network, aimed at improving operational efficiencies and long-term sustainability. March-quarter net profit rose 30% from a year earlier to ₹3,519 crore, while gross revenue increased 16% to ₹88,620 crore."The quick hyperlocal deliveries initiative has also gained significant traction in the market, connecting strongly with the users," Ambani said. "Our suite of omni-channel offerings and wide-spread presence will enable Reliance Retail to continue delivering superior value to all its customers."On the new energy front, RIL chief financial officer Srikanth Venkatachari said on a conference call, "We have commissioned the first gigawatt-scale solar module. It's BIS certified already and the largest, from a size point of view, at 720 megawatt peak. It's possibly the largest panel that we have."RIL is building four gigafactories in the new energy space with the first of these manufacturing solar photovoltaic (PV) modules.

History of Handloom​ Figure 1: History of Handlooms Figure 1 shows India has a 5000-year-old Traditional Handloom background, and even in the Vedic period, there is are lot of evidence of the usage of fabrics. In the 2nd Century BC, the literature shows the production of silk and cotton cultivation and fabrics made from it. The East India Company invaded India in the 17th Century for the purchase of Muslin and Jute fabrics for their socking due to rapid industrialisation in Europe. At present, India has an 80% share in the world handloom, which shows its potential and lots of scope to explore the research and innovations in the field of Handloom. Handloom Industry in India​ Figure 2: Handloom Industry in India Figure 2 shows the features of the Handloom Industry in India, which has a long traditional background spread across the nation of richness and diversity in nature. A recent statistic shows that around 4.3 million people are involved in the Handloom Industry, and apart from agriculture, the Textile Industry is the largest employment provider. A variety of Designs produced in the various clusters of India with its unique Finesse. Present Handloom Industry focusing on the Fusion of old traditional design and manufacturing skills and talents into New ideas and Technological developments. With the above capabilities, the Indian Handloom Industry has a potential of USD 350 million export business. SWOT of Handloom Industry​ Strength 1/4 th of the world's cotton cultivation happens in India. Handloom products cannot be produced or replicated by Power looms. Skilled/Semi-Skilled and Trainee workforces are deployed in the Handloom sector. Product diversification through clusters. No demand for energy. The cost of products is affordable. Geographical Identifications/IPR and Copyrights of Designs. Weakness Inadequate and a lack of qualitative raw material sources. Lack of Marketing Strategies Poor quality Lack of Innovation in the processes. Political systems Lack of a Code of ethics and Mode of operations. Lack of Integrated Information Technology systems. Poor level of cohesion among clusters Handloom Clusters in India Figure 3 shows the Indian Handloom clusters and almost every state has unique products manufactured with tradition and their own skills and design talents. Few are stated below such as Kancheepuram sarees in Tamil Nadu, Balrampuram sarees in Kerala, Ilkal sarees in Karnataka, Pochampalli sarees in Andhra, Ikat sarees in Odisha, Kosa silks in Chhattisgarh, Tussar silk in Jharkand, Jamdani sarees in West Bengal, Pachra sarees in Tirupura, Puanchei in Mizoram, Phanek in Manipura, Aptani in Arunachal Pradesh, Naga Shawls id Nagaland, Muga Silks in Assam, Bhagalpur silk is Bihar, Banarsi sarees in Uttar Pradesh, Lohi shawls in Uttarakand, Kullu Shawls in Himachal Pradesh, Pashmina Shawls in Jammu and Kashmir, Bedsheets in Haryana, Kota sarees in Rajasthan, Chanderi sarees in Madhya Pradesh and Kutch Shawls in Gujarat. Chittaranjan Loom Hattersley Loom Innovative Looms Innovation in Handlooms Extra- Weft Insertion for Handloom Design Conventionally, the task of the insertion of weft threads needed to make a variety of designs is done manually by tying knots, which is cumbersome and time-consuming. The thread is also wasted in connecting one motif to another. Deepak's innovative device makes designs in one-third of the time required by the traditional way of making designs. (Fig.4) The device consists of three components: base frame, magnet bearing shaft and a specially designed bobbin. These components can be fitted to any handloom Jacquard machine. The attachment facilitates the Jacquard loom to perform automatic selection and lifting of warp threads for design making. Figure 4: Extra-Weft Insertion for Handloom Design Bi-Fab Handloom Traditionally, the same big loom is used to produce both narrow and wide fabrics. Sadly, not much has been done for reducing the drudgery and fatigue of the weaver by using appropriate technology in the sector and whatever new has been done in this regard, has not become popular among the weavers due to various reasons. Many a times, the new technology developed for handloom is not user-friendly and hence not accepted by the weaver. (Fig.5) Figure 5. Bi-Fab Hand Loom Bi-Fab Loom simultaneously weaves narrow width fabrics like stoles, napkins, and mats leading to efficient and increased production capacity from the handloom weaver. It helps reduce the laborious nature of work and improve labour productivity by doubling production capacity. The edges achieved are neat with complete selvedges on both sides. Handloom Startups The new trend in startups in handlooms sector is most promising in reforming the handloom sector and most of the young entrepreneur coming to the traditional handloom startups which creating the new markets and demands for the handloom products all over the world. Breakout stocks buy or sell: The Indian stock market recorded strong gains on Monday, August 11, driven by broad-based buying despite mixed signals from global markets. The Sensex closed at 80,604.08, gaining 746 points, or 0.93 per cent, while the Nifty 50 advanced 222 points, or 0.91 per cent, to finish at 24,585.05. Among broader indices, the BSE Midcap rose 0.79 per cent, and the Smallcap index ended 0.35 per cent higher. For more improvement in Dalal Street mood, the Nifty index needs to break above 24,650 on a closing basis. So, one should maintain stock-specific approach and look at those stocks that are looking strong on the technical chart. Looking at breakout stocks can be a good option." Indian stock market: The equity market benchmark indices, Sensex and Nifty 50, are expected to open lower on Tuesday, following mixed global market cues. Asian markets traded higher, with Japan's Nikkei hitting record high, while the US stock market ended lower overnight. On Monday, the Indian stock market witnessed a short-covering rally, led by buying across the board. The Sensex surged 746.29 points, or 0.93%, to close at 80,604.08, while the Nifty 50 settled 221.75 points, or 0.91%, higher at 24,585.05. 'It appears that the markets have largely digested the recent tariff-related concerns and are now focusing more on earnings cues, with the results season nearing its end. Additionally, oversold positions in heavyweights are providing support. Traders should maintain a hedged approach and focus on stocks consistently displaying relative strength for long positions,' said Ajit Mishra – SVP, Research, Religare Broking Ltd. Here are key global market cues for Sensex today: Asian markets traded higher on Tuesday after the US-China trade truce extension overnight. Japan's Nikkei 225 rallied 2% to hit a record high, while the Topix index gained 0.74%. South Korea's Kospi rose 0.93%, while the Kosdaq added 0.4%. Hong Kong's Hang Seng index futures indicated a weaker opening. Gift Nifty was trading around 24,580 level, a discount of nearly 47 points from the Nifty futures' previous close, indicating a weak start for the Indian stock market indices. US stock market ended lower on Monday as investors eye US-China trade developments. The Dow Jones Industrial Average fell 200.52 points, or 0.45%, to 43,975.09, while the S&P 500 dropped 16.00 points, or 0.25%, to 6,373.45. The Nasdaq Composite closed 64.62 points, or 0.3%, lower at 21,385.40. Nvidia share price declined 0.35%, Advanced Micro Devices shares fell 0.28%, while Micron Technology stock price rallied 4% and Intel shares gained 3.5%. Tesla stock price surged 2.84%, Apple stock price fell 0.83% and Amazon shares eased 0.62%. The United States and China extended a tariff truce for another 90 days. US President Donald Trump announced on his Truth Social platform that he had signed an executive order suspending the imposition of higher tariffs until 12:01 a.m. EST on November 10, with all other elements of the truce to remain in place. Crude oil prices rose as the United States and China extended a pause on higher tariffs. Brent crude futures gained 0.30% to $66.83 a barrel, while US West Texas Intermediate crude futures rose 0.25% to $64.12. Gold prices rose after a sharp fall in the previous session, as investors looked forward to US inflation data. Spot gold price gained 0.3% to $3,355.59 per ounce, while US gold futures for December delivery edged 0.1% higher to $3,406.80.
