Slow-paced formation of Internal Complaints Committees at institutions in TN's Krishnagiri
POSH Act was enacted to provide a safe and secure work environment for all women, and to ensure effective redressal of complaints of sexual harassment. The law states that an organisation with ten or more employees must constitute an IC to receive and redress complaints of sexual harassment at workplaces. IC must be constituted as per Section 4 of the Act.
Sources from the social welfare department in the district said, "There are 207 ICs in government and private schools and colleges, and other educational institutions in Krishnagiri district. Similarly, various factories and private companies formed 222 ICs. Only 66 ICs have been formed in government offices. Out of eight taluk offices, ICs were constituted in five offices, while out of ten block development offices, only five have ICs."
ICs have been formed in just 78 government schools in the district, while the police department at sub-division level and primary health centres at block-level are yet to form such committees. However, both have ICs set up at the district office.
District Social Welfare Officer R Sakthi Subashini told
TNIE
, "On multiple occasions, officials were asked to constitute ICs, but only some are following the instructions. Apart from forming the committees, its details should be uploaded on www.tnswd-poshicc.tn.gov.in website. Krishnagiri Collector C Dinesh Kumar also warned that failure to form ICs will attract a fine of
Rs 50, 000 on the concerned department or organisation. Over 210 awareness programmes have been conducted across the district since January 2024 about forming ICs, but the implementation has been slow.'

Bikaner: Eleven people, including the girl's father and other family members, have been named in an FIR for allegedly selling a 15-year-old girl for ₹5 lakh and forcibly marrying her to a 50-year-old man against her consent in Rajasthan, police said. The minor's mother lodged an FIR against 11 people at the Khajuwala police station area on August 12. (Representative Photo) The minor's mother lodged an FIR against 11 people at the Khajuwala police station area on August 12. 'A case has been registered under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act, 2006,' station house officer (SHO) Surendra Kumar Prajapat said. The mother alleged that a proposal to marry her 15-year-old daughter came from a 50-year-old man, which she had opposed. However, her husband and son pressured her, claiming that the agreement had already been made. 'The mother, in her complaint, alleged that greed for money motivated the forced marriage. On August 6, a woman accompanied by the father and several others reportedly threatened the minor and forcibly took her away. She was held captive for three days at an unknown location. The mother was also prevented from helping her daughter during this period,' an officer said. The minor was brought back home on August 9, allegedly under the influence of intoxicants. 'That night, a group, including a Maulvi, arrived, and a forced marriage ceremony was carried out while the mother was locked in a room. Following the marriage, the 50-year-old husband allegedly attempted to sexually assault the girl,' the officer said. Death of woman in Kothamangalam: SIT likely to arraign parents of the accused
The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the death of a 23-year-old woman at Kothamangalam is likely to arraign the parents of the accused, Rameez, as well. The investigation team, led by the Muvattupuzha Deputy Superintendent of Police ( continues to keep its action under the wrap though it is reliably learnt that the parents may be charged based on the revelations in the suicide note, reportedly written by the victim. The note alleged that Rameez through his family forced her for religious conversion as a precondition for marrying her. The victim was found hanging in her house at Kothamangalam on Saturday (August 09, 2025). Initially, the Kothamangalam police registered a case of unnatural death. However, the police stumbled upon the suicide note during the preparation of Mahassar on Sunday, based on which Rameez was arrested the next day. Though there were reports that the accused's parents would be summoned for questioning, the police haven't made any move yet. Kin's allegation The SIT was constituted after the police came under pressure as the kin of the victim and right wing political parties alleged that the woman was a victim of attempted forceful religious conversion. The Kothamangalam police, which initially investigated the case, had ruled that out, as they found it to be a case of a failed affair. Dissatisfied with the police investigation, the family of the victim petitioned the Chief Minister on Tuesday (August 12,2025) and the State Police Chief demanding that a probe be conducted by the National Investigation Agency. They accused the police of charging only lenient clauses against the accused and demanded that he and his parents be charged for attempted forceful religious conversion. Statements being collected The SIT has been collecting statements from friends, relatives and others who qualify as witnesses and sifting through the Call Detail Records of the victim and the accused. The investigation team is likely to get the custody of the accused by Monday (August 18, 2025). The accused was booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) Sections 69 (sexual intercourse by employing deceitful means etc), 108 (abetment to suicide), and 115 (voluntarily causing hurt) on charges that he slapped her. Telangana man sentenced to death for rape, murder of 12-year-old girl
Hyderabad: A court in Telangana's Nalgonda district on Thursday awarded a death sentence to a man for the rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl. The Special POCSO court found the 24-year-old accused, a butcher, guilty in the case and pronounced the death sentence. The court found M. Mukarram guilty under relevant provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and the Indian Penal Code (IPC). The court also imposed a fine of Rs 1.10 lakh. POCSO Court in-charge Roja Ramani also ordered Rs 10 lakh compensation to the victim's family. The accused, who has a hearing and speech impairment, was provided with an interpreter during the court proceedings. The shocking incident occurred in April 2013 in Nalgonda town. The accused had sexually assaulted the girl after luring her to his home. After the sexual assault, the accused strangled her to death and dumped the body in a drainage canal. Based on a complaint from the girl's family, One Town Police Station in Nalgonda had registered a missing case. During the investigation, police found the victim's body. The accused was later identified and arrested. A case under the POCSO Act and the IPC was registered against the accused. The trial lasted in the Nalgonda district court for 10 years. After hearing the arguments, the in-charge judge of the Special POCSO court found the accused guilty and awarded him the death sentence. The victim's family hailed the court order. Police said they conducted a thorough investigation into the case and collected and produced all evidence before the court. Last year, the Telangana High Court confirmed the death sentence awarded to a 30-year-old man, who was found guilty of murdering a five-year-old girl after abducting and raping her at Narsingi on the outskirts of Hyderabad. The High Court confirmed the capital punishment pronounced by a local court in the 2017 case.
