Demetrious Johnson defends Khamzat Chimaev: 'Don't watch UFC' if you don't like his style
Chimaev (15-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) dominated Dricus Du Plessis (23-3 MMA, 9-1 UFC) on the ground en route to a unanimous decision win in Saturday's main event at United Center in Chicago. Chimaev had over 21 minutes of control time on Du Plessis, and was showered with boos from the fans several times throughout the fight.
Johnson expects better from the fans.
"If you guys don't want to watch grappling and wrestling and jiu-jitsu, don't watch UFC," Johnson said on his YouTube channel. "Go watch ONE Championship, go watch Lion Fighting, go watch Glory, go watch kickboxing, go watch muay Thai, right? It's very simple. You guys are complaining about something that's a very simple problem to fix.
"For example, let's say Khamzat's about to fight again, you don't want to watch his style, all you've got to do is go like this, you see this button right here? It's called 'off'OFF' button. You don't have to see Khamzat wrestle. It's a very simple problem to fix. You guys are making it a bigger deal than it is."
Chimaev has various options for his first title defense from Reinier de Ridder, to Anthony Hernandez, to the winner of the Sept. 6 headliner between Nassourdine Imavov and Caio Borralho. Whoever is next, Johnson says they're in for a long night if they can't handle Chimaev's grappling prowess.
"I honestly thought Khamzat was going to be able to finish DDP if he was able to take DDP down, but I also thought DDP was going to do a better job about defending the takedown and he wasn't able to stop the takedown," Johnson said. "That was the story of that fight. So moving forward, whoever fights Khamzat, they need to decide.
"Like, (Nassourdine) Imavov or (Caio) Borralho – they fight Sept. 6. Whoever wins that fight, if they do not come with a wrestling defense or a good jiu-jitsu attacking style like going after the legs, elevating Khamzat, they're going to lose. I feel totally comfortable saying that. They're going to lose – because Khamzat does not want to stand. He wants to show, show, shoot ... show, show, shoot ... show, show, shoot. So if those guys don't have a ground game or have an answer for his wrestling, it's going to be the same exact thing that happened to DDP."

Tim Elliott calls for new contract after UFC 319 upset of Kai Asakura
CHICAGO – Tim Elliott met with MMA Junkie and other media members Saturday after his win over Kai Asakura at UFC 319. Elliott (21-14-1 MMA, 10-11 UFC) upset Asakura (21-6 MMA, 0-2 UFC) with a second-round submission to open up the main card at United Center in Chicago. Elliott, a former flyweight title challenger, pulled the upset against the 3-1 favorite. Now Elliott says he's hoping the UFC recognizes his recent run – four wins in five fights, and back-to-back first-round submission wins – and rewards him with a new deal. "This is my favorite thing in the world to do," Elliott said at his post-fight news conference. "… When I can't fight, I feel like my life is not complete. I don't know what the f*ck I'm going to do when I retire because then I'm just going to be a fighting dog with no fight left. I'm not going to retire gracefully from the UFC. They're going to have to tell me, 'You've got to go, man.' I'm going to be here until they make me go." Elliott said he think Asakura, who made his highly anticipated UFC debut in a title fight against champion Alexandre Pantoja, will rebound – but it might take a while. "It sucks for him. He's an ex-champ, but he's going to be fine," Elliott said. "He's still got a lot more fight left in him. He's still a fighter who could be a UFC champion – I have no doubts about him. But he's spent his whole career fighting in a square ring, not an octagon. It's totally different. I couldn't imagine making those adjustments in two fights." Check out Elliott's full post-fight interview in the video above.

Alexander Volkanovski tried to fight Movsar Evloev next, says Lerone Murphy a 'no-brainer'
Alexander Volkanovski sees Lerone Murphy as his next title challenger after UFC 319. UFC featherweight champion Volkanovski (27-5 MMA, 14-4 UFC) was zoning in on numerous opponents for his next title defense. At one point it appeared to be Yair Rodriguez, then the champion shifted his focus to the winner of the originally scheduled bout between Movsar Evloev and Aaron Pico at UFC on ABC 9 in July. However, that fight was scrapped, and Pico's promotional debut was pushed to this past Saturday's UFC UFC 319 co-main event in Chicago, where he drew short-notice Murphy. Volkanovski had his eyes peeled on the matchup after Pico said he's confident he could knock him out. Unfortunately for Pico, he ended up getting knocked out himself courtesy of a beautiful spinning back elbow by Murphy. Volkanovski now welcomes Murphy (17-0-1 MMA, 9-0-1 UFC) next before the end of the year. "Massive knockout, and you couldn't script it any better," Volkanovski said of Murphy on his YouTube channel. "For me, I'm waiting to see who it is. Who do I think deserves it? I think Lerone Murphy. Then people are going to say, 'Oh, but there's the decisions,' as if he's not exciting enough. "That needs to be such a big factor nowadays and I understand that. I get it. Same for the UFC and for the fans. Now you get a guy who goes in and does an absolute massive knockout like that on a big card, on a seven-fight win streak or maybe more, I don't know what it is. I mean, I think it's a bit of a no-brainer. December's looking good." Volkanovski is aware that many still view Evloev (19-0 MMA, 9-0 UFC) as the No. 1 contender, but explains that he was initially willing to fight him. "I tried," Volkanovski said. "I'm going to tell you right now, I tried to make that happen. I thought he deserves it. He did deserve it. He had this fight and then I'm like, 'All right, he's going to have to do this (Pico) fight and he definitely gets it,' pulled out and you know what the UFC's like with things like that. ... Maybe it was a serious injury. I don't know what it is, but it doesn't look like it's going to be Movsar. I mean I tried with all of them. "But now, it looks like it's Lerone Murphy. It makes a lot of sense. So let's do Lerone Murphy in December. Sounds great."
