‘The Bad Guys 2' Cast on Revisiting Their Characters and Director Talks Possible Third Movie

Yahoo3 days ago
At the recent world premiere of 'The Bad Guys 2' in Los Angeles, franchise star Craig Robinson expressed his excitement revisiting his character for a sequel, as did several of his cast members and directors.
'I loved it because you have the confidence with it being the second one,' Robinson said. 'They gave me some more crazy stuff to do. It was so much fun and passionate. It's contagious. They're amazing to work with alongside producer Damon [Ross] and directors JP [Sans] and Pierre [Perifel]. I had a ball.'

Robinson voices Mr. Shark, who is a part of a group of ex-convicts determined to be good as they reenter society. 'The Office' star recently made headlines for his so-called 'retirement' stunt for his new marketing campaign with AT&T. When asked if he still had to clear up that he's not quitting comedy, Robinson told Variety, 'Yes, but it's all good. It was a troll move, but it was nice to see some people care.'
Awkwafina said she has always been a fan of her character, Ms. Tarantula, since the first film.
'It's great to kind of revisit a character from a movie that you love,' she said. 'It's cool being back in a situation where you never thought you would be back again with the same people, and everyone gets along.'
The premiere was held at the TCL Chinese Theater in Los Angeles, where Sam Rockwell pulled off a stunt by arriving to the event in a black vehicle reminiscent of his character's getaway car in the animated film before he was cuffed by two police officers before stepping onto the orange carpet.
Danielle Brooks bonded with Rockwell in their recording sessions as she voiced Kitty Kat, the snow leopard ringleader of the newly introduced criminal group Bad Girls. 'I got to be in the booth with Sam, which never really happens,' Brooks said. 'That was a lot of fun. He reminded me to loosen up with the script. We did a lot of improv together.' Rounding up the Bad Girls are Bulgarian wild boar Pigtail, which was voiced by Maria Bakalova and Natasha Lyonne as the wry raven Doom (aka Susan).
In the first film, the Bad Guys turn bad to good. 'The Bad Guys 2' picks up with the ex-convicts trying to reinvent themselves. Struggling to find socially acceptable jobs outside of their traditional high-stakes operations, they suddenly find themselves framed for a crime they didn't commit and forced by the Bad Girls to do one last heist.
The returning cast members include Rockwell as Mr. Wolf, Marc Maron as Mr. Snake, Robinson as Mr. Shark, Anthony Ramos as Mr. Piranha, Awkwafina as Ms. Tarantula and Alex Borstein as the police commissioner.
The co-director, JP Sans, named Lyonne as having one of the best impromptu moments. 'There was a scene with her and Marc where they're opening up a safe, but they're also talking about the romanticness of it,' he said. We told Natasha to go wild, and she went wild a little too much, where we could not use the stuff that she said. It was amazing and really funny.'
For the director Pierre Perifel, one of the biggest challenges with doing the sequel was executing the same quality that audiences enjoyed from the first film.
'When you have the opportunity to make a sequel from a movie that people reacted well to, the challenge was, 'Is there a way I can do it again? Am I going to be successful at doing at least a good job with the same quality or better? Sequels are notoriously complicated to make,' he explained. 'That's the pressure that we're facing. We had to get out of our way and embrace what was there for us so that the movie and story would develop itself.'
Perifel also spoke about the hopes of a third film, describing a potential 'sci-fi and action' direction.
'There's definitely conversation,' he said. 'We've been chatting among ourselves out of sheer passion about potentially making a third one. We have ideas and are excited because this is the world we want to play in. It's so fun. Now, is it going to happen? That's a different question, because it's all tied up to much more than just us.'
'Bad Guys 2' is now in theaters.

This Video Of Mariah Carey Finding Out That Katy Perry Went To Space Is The Funniest Thing I've Seen All Week, And You Need To Watch It

Back in April, Katy Perry and five others took a 10-minute trip to space thanks to Jeff Bezos's Blue Origin aerospace company, and it was basically all anyone talked about for about a week. Maybe even two. Blue Origin / Via Gilbert Flores / Getty Images Between the backlash and memes, the interviews and think-pieces, it's almost impossible to imagine that anyone with access to the internet could've missed the news. Which brings us to the one and only, Mariah Carey. Related: In a new interview with the BBC, radio host Scott Mills asked Mariah if she could ever see herself following in Katy's footsteps — only to very quickly realize she had no idea what he was talking about. Even with her big black shades on, the confusion on Mariah's face was evident. 'Did she go to space?' she said. Related: Mariah has a reputation for leaning into a bit every now and then if she's feeling shady; however, in this instance, she appeared genuinely baffled as she dug for answers: 'Where'd she go?!' she asked, looking around the room. Someone off camera chimed in to give Mariah the context that she needed — i.e., that Katy's space mission was rather brief — and the music icon was even more intrigued. 'Into orbit and back? She's like, floating in the…,' she said. 'And this is true?' BBC / Via Related: When Scott clarified that he was, in fact, not making it up, Mariah expressed her admiration, while also seeming totally unbothered by the whole thing, which is a skill in itself. 'Wow, alright Katy,' she said, totally deadpan. 'I'm not mad at her. That's pretty amazing.' And just when you thought the clip couldn't get any better, Scott returns to his initial question of, 'Would you do it?' to which she replied: 'I think I've done enough.' Indeed, you have, Mariah. It truly doesn't get more iconic than that. The video has only been up for a few hours, and already, people are obsessed — not only with the fact that Mariah had no idea about the space trip, but just how chill she is about the whole thing. 'I want to be THIS genuinely chill about actually everything,' one TikTok user wrote. ''I think I've done enough' says it all 🤣' added another. 'Mariah lives in her own World. everyone else is irrelevant 😅,' commented someone else, while another said: 'Only space she knows, is her own 🤣 - Queen Aura' Related: Well, if we needed any more confirmation that Mariah is simply not like the rest of us, then this was it. The duo reunites for ‘Freakier Friday': What Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan have been up to since 2003

More than 20 years after 'Freaky Friday' became a generational favorite, Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsay Lohan are back on screen together. The sequel hits theaters Friday, picking up years after the original and introducing a new generation to the mother-daughter body-swap comedy. Released in 2003 as a remake of the 1976 film, 'Freaky Friday' followed a tightly wound mother and her rebellious teenage daughter who magically switch bodies after a fortune cookie mishap and are forced to live each other's lives for a day. The film earned over $160 million worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo. Since then, both actors have taken different paths in Hollywood, but have found their way back to their roles as Tess and Anna Coleman. From Activia ads to the Academy Awards: Jamie Lee Curtis After 'Freaky Friday,' Curtis shifted focus to her literary career and made frequent commercial appearances, including a long-running campaign for Activia. She later returned to acting in both television and film, according to Rotten Tomatoes. 'You Again' (2010) 'Christmas with the Kranks' (2004) 'NCIS' (recurring role, 2012) 'Halloween' films (1978–2022) 'Knives Out' (2019) 'Everything Everywhere All at Once' (2022) — won Academy Award for best supporting actress Curtis has written several bestselling children's books, including 'Tell Me Again About the Night I Was Born' and 'Big Words for Little People." In recent years, Curtis has become a public advocate for LGBTQ+ rights and visibility around aging in Hollywood. She has spoken openly about parenting a transgender daughter and addressing industry-wide ageism. According to The Guardian, during a 2018 global press tour for 'Halloween,' fans consistently asked her about a potential 'Freaky Friday' sequel. That interest prompted her to call Disney CEO Bob Iger. 'I said: 'Look, I don't know if you're planning on doing (a sequel), but Lindsay is old enough to have a teenager now, and I'm telling you the market for that movie exists,'' Curtis recalled. A new chapter for Lindsay Lohan Following her time as Anna Coleman, Lohan became one of the most recognized teen stars of the early 2000s. She faced a period of personal and legal difficulties in the years that followed, stepping back from the spotlight before reemerging in the 2020s. 'Mean Girls' (2004) 'Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen' (2004) 'Herbie: Fully Loaded' (2005) 'Falling for Christmas' (2022) 'Irish Wish' (2024) Lohan's career was interrupted by challenges that drew heavy media attention. In the past few years, she's quietly reemerged with a more measured public image. Lohan married financier Bader Shammas in 2022 and welcomed their first child in 2023. In recent interviews, she's spoken about her renewed focus on family and work-life balance. Lohan and Curtis reflect on 20 years When asked what had changed the most in the 20 years since the pair had worked together, Lohan told the "Today Show Australia," 'I've had a kid,' prompting Curtis to laugh and add, 'And mine have grown up.' 'I've lived such a long life in a such a short amount of time, really, and I've learned so many lessons,' Lohan said. 'I'm really grateful for my life today and I'm really appreciative for it. I wouldn't really want to switch with anyone. I wouldn't give up a moment in my shoes with my son or my husband or my family.' At the film's world premiere at the El Capitan Theatre in Hollywood, Curtis explained the timing behind the sequel. 'There's math involved. You couldn't make this movie if Lindsay didn't have a teenage daughter, so she had to be old enough,' Curtis told TheWrap. 'And there's a nostalgia about the movie. In a time of turmoil, you cling to something nostalgic and familiar, so it's like comfort food.' 'I think 'Freaky Friday' is sort of cinema comfort food,' she added. 'It's satisfying, makes you feel good, makes you laugh, makes you cry.' Solve the daily Crossword
