How many innings are played in the Little League World Series? LLWS rules
The Little League World Series is currently taking over the ESPN family of networks with games in the United States bracket and international bracket. As you are watching the Little League World Series, you'll notice some subtle differences between Little League rules and that of Major League Baseball or NCAA baseball. The biggest difference is the number of innings played for the 12U All-Stars in the modified double-elimination tournament held in Williamsport, Pennsylvania, each year. Here's everything to know about how many innings are in a Little League World Series game and the other important rules about players and Little League Baseball. How many innings are in a Little League World Series game? Under normal circumstances, a complete Little League World Series game is played over six innings. If the home team is winning the game entering the top of the sixth inning and gets three outs against the visiting team, then the game will end with five and a half innings played as the home team will not bat in the bottom of the sixth inning. Can a Little League World Series game go into extra innings? Yes. If the score is still tied after six complete innings, then the two teams will go into extra innings starting with the seventh inning. The difference with the seventh inning and every inning needed after that, is that a runner starts the seventh inning (and beyond) on second base. That runner, according to Little League, 'is scheduled to bat last in that respective half inning.' What are the special circumstances for an abbreviated Little League World Series game? A Little League World Series game can end before the sixth inning under what Little League calls the 'Run Rule." If, after three innings (or two-and-a-half if the home team is winning), one team is winning by 15 runs or more, the game will end. If, after four innings (or three-and-a-half if the home team is winning), one team is winning by 10 runs or more, the game will also end early. When is a Little League World Series game considered an official game? According to Little League, 'each tournament game must be played to the point of being an official game," which means at least four innings played (or three-and-a-half innings if the home team is ahead) and the game isn't shortened by the 15-run rule or the 10-run rule. How many innings can a Little League Baseball player throw in a game? Little League Baseball doesn't have a strict per-game pitching innings limit. However, Little League does monitor how many pitches a player can throw in a game and there are corresponding days of rest tied to how many pitches a player throws in each game. The maximum number of pitches a player can throw in a Little League World Series game is 85 pitches. However, a pitcher can go over the 85-pitch threshold to finish an at-bat that started under 85 pitches, but that batter would be the last one before the pitcher must be removed from the mound. The pitching ranges and corresponding days of rest are as followed: Sherlon Christie is a social media editor for USA TODAY Sports. WWE Drops Bombshell PLE, Waging War With AEW's Biggest Show
WWE Wrestlepalooza Credit: WWE WWE isn't playing games or pulling punches. On Wednesday, the promotion made a symphony of announcements and it feels like they're dropping a diss track targeting AEW. Here's the breakdown. For starters: WWE's move to ESPN has been expedited. Originally, it was set to begin in 2026, but the WWE has moved to have this agreement start in September. Guess what day? You guessed it. WWE is kicking off a "massive" new premium live event called WrestlePalooza and it will take place on September 20. If you're in touch with AEW's product, you know that's the same day as AEW All-Out, which is set to feature WWE Hall-of-Famer Adam Copeland aka Edge. That event will take place in Vancouver. WWE's WrestlePalooza happens in Indianapolis. TORONTO, CANADA - JULY 6: John Cena makes his way to the ring during Money in the Bank at Scotiabank Arena on July 6, 2024 in Toronto, Ontario. (Photo) WWE via Getty Images The inaugural WrestlePalooza will take place at Gainbridge Fieldhouse, headlined by John Cena in what's being billed as his final wrestling appearance in Indianapolis. He'll be joined by Cody Rhodes, Seth Rollins, Becky Lynch, CM Punk, and Drew McIntyre on a card designed to showcase WWE's top champions and marquee names. The event begins at 7 p.m. ET and streams live on ESPN's new direct-to-consumer service which starts on August 21. This marks the official start of WWE's five-year, $1.6 billion partnership with ESPN. Subscribers to ESPN's unlimited plan will receive all Premium Live Events as part of the package, immediately positioning WWE programming in front of one of the largest sports audiences in the world. Paul 'Triple H' Levesque called it a defining moment, promising 'the biggest Superstars in WWE' on 'the biggest brand in sports media.' Indianapolis seemed like a strong choice, coming off a successful Royal Rumble at Lucas Oil Stadium earlier this year. Tickets for WrestlePalooza go on sale Friday, with presales beginning Thursday. The move adds more weight to WWE's fall schedule, which also includes Crown Jewel on Oct. 11 and Survivor Series on Nov. 29, both slated for ESPN platforms. (Photo by Mert Alper Dervis/Anadolu via Getty Images) Anadolu via Getty Images For AEW, the timing couldn't be worse. Already facing sagging viewership and the pressure of negotiating a new television deal, All Out now goes head-to-head with a stacked WWE card on a mainstream network. AEW signed a new rights deal with Warner Bros. in 2024. However, the viewership has been down as has ticket sales. WrestlePalooza threatens to impact both important metrics. Analysts have called it a 'power play,' with WWE Hall-of-Famer Bully Ray suggesting the company is making sure 'nobody is ever in a position to become competition again.' I don't blame WWE for its moves. This is a highly competitive market and while shrewd, this is how companies give their product the best chance to increase its success in a competitive market. WWE is seemingly planning a stacked card that snatches away a large percentage of viewership from AEW on a key night. As a wrestling fan, it'll be exciting to see what WrestlePalooza becomes and how or if AEW responds to WWE's power move.

US Open mixed doubles live updates: Schedule, bracket, how to watch today
The US Open will crown its first champions of the Grand Slam tennis tournament on Wednesday, Aug. 20. The semifinals and finals of the reimagined mixed doubles competition will be held under the lights in Arthur Ashe Stadium, giving the fans in New York their first taste of prime time tennis this year. Mixed doubles began Tuesday, Aug. 19 with a full day of first-round and quarterfinal matches, and the compact event concludes quickly, giving players plenty of time to prepare for singles play, which begins on Sunday, Aug. 24. Because mixed doubles was moved nearly a full week before singles action gets underway at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center, the event was able to attract many of the sport's top stars, including a number of Americans. The mixed doubles semifinals feature one of the top American players in Jessica Pegula, who reached the US Open singles final last year. Pegula is teaming up with Great Britain's Jack Draper, the No. 5-ranked player in the world on the ATP Tour, and the pair earned the No. 1 seed in the mixed doubles competition. Five-time Grand Slam singles champion Iga Swiatek, who took the women's singles crown at the US Open in 2022, will also be in action with partner Casper Ruud. The No. 3-seeded team faces Pegula and Draper in one semifinal. The other semifinal features an all-American pair against an Italian duo, with Danielle Collins and Christian Harrison of the U.S. taking on Sara Errani and Andrea Vavassori. The semifinal winners will then face off later Wednesday night for the championship. USA TODAY Sports will have full coverage of the 2025 US Open mixed doubles semifinals and final. Here is everything you need to know before the action starts. US Open mixed doubles order of play today All times Eastern. All matches are held at Arthur Ashe Stadium and televised on ESPN2. How to watch US Open mixed doubles 2025: TV and streaming US Open mixed doubles 2025 format Each match (other than the final) are best-of-three sets, and each set is first team to win four games. Unlike singles matches, there will be no-ad in games that reach a score of deuce (40-all), meaning that the winner of the next point wins the game. If each team has won four games in a set, a tiebreak will be played. If the teams split sets, a 10-point match tiebreak will be played in lieu of a third set. The first team to win 10 points, with an advantage of two or more points, will win the match. In the final, the first team to win six games wins the set, and the first team to win two sets wins the championship.
