‘Jimmy Kimmel is next': Donald Trump gloats over Stephen Colbert's cancellation

Don't miss out on the headlines from TV. Followed categories will be added to My News. President Donald Trump addressed CBS' shocking decision to cancel The Late Show With Stephen Colbert, seemingly suggesting that other late night hosts should get a similar treatment – namely his longtime critic, Jimmy Kimmel. 'I absolutely love that Colbert got fired. His talent was even less than his ratings,' Trump wrote in a post on Truth Social, per Variety. 'I hear Jimmy Kimmel is next. Has even less talent than Colbert!' Kimmel and Trump have been feuding for years, Decider reports. Not only did Trump blast Kimmel's time hosting the Oscars in 2024, but the late night host has spent almost every single evening on Jimmy Kimmel Live criticising Trump's politics in recent months. Kimmel was even moved to tears after Trump won the presidency in 2024, calling this a 'terrible night' for democracy and claiming he's on Trump's 'list of enemies.' Trump also took a shot at Jimmy Fallon while praising Fox News late night host Greg Gutfield. US President Donald Trump. (AP Photo/Alex Brandon) 'Greg Gutfield is better than all of them combined, including the Moron on NBC who ruined the once great Tonight Show,' he wrote. CBS announced it made the 'financial decision' to cancel The Late Show in a press release shared Thursday (July 17). The show is set to end in May 2026. 'We consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable and will retire The Late Show franchise at that time. We are proud that Stephen called CBS home. He and the broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that graced late night television,' the statement reads, per The Hollywood Reporter. 'This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show's performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.' US television host Jimmy Kimmel. (Photo by Chris Delmas / AFP) The decision comes just days after Colbert criticised CBS' parent company for reaching a US$16 million (AU$24.5 million) settlement with President Trump after Trump accused 60 Minutes of editing an interview with Kamala Harris to mislead voters during the presidential election. Paramount is currently in the middle of a merger with Skydance Media that will require approval from Trump's administration. 'I don't know if anything — anything — will repair my trust in this company,' Colbert said on The Late Show earlier this week. 'But, just taking a stab at it, I'd say $16 million would help.' Kimmel wasted no time in speaking out in support of Colbert. 'Love you Stephen. F**k you and all your Sheldons CBS,' he wrote on Instagram. Who Plays Agnes In ‘The Summer I Turned Pretty?' Why Zoé De Grand Maison Looks So Familiar

Zoe De Grand Maison Spoilers ahead for Episodes 1 and 2 of The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3. The Summer I Turned Pretty is back for its bittersweet third and final season. The first two episodes are now streaming, with new episodes dropping weekly on Prime Video. Following the premiere, it's time to unpack one of the new characters introduced this season: Agnes. The third season picks up with Jeremiah and Belly, who are still together and attending Finch College. Belly is heading into the summer before her senior year, while Jeremiah was on track to graduate — but after messing up his credits, he now has to take fall classes as a super senior. Their relationship has been rocky to say the least, with Jeremiah cheating on her in Cabo, Belly hiding that she spent Christmas with Conrad and the usual college drama. Meanwhile, Conrad is off studying to become a doctor and has a new friend of his own to keep him company. In the show, Agnes is introduced as one of Conrad's pre-med friends at Stanford, and she appears to be a steady presence in his life. She's also a character in Jenny Han's book, We'll Always Have Summer, but her role is much smaller compared to her on-screen counterpart. So, who is Agnes, and will she and Conrad develop a romantic relationship? Here's what to know about Agnes and Conrad so far, including the actress who plays her and where you might have seen her before. Who Is Agnes In The Summer I Turned Pretty Season 3? In Season 3, Episode 1, we meet Agnes, one of Conrad's close pre-med friends at Stanford. She's accepted into the same summer clinic residency as him, and she appears to be not only a great friend and confidant to the Fisher brother, but also a potential future love interest. According to Decider, Agnes is portrayed somewhat differently in the series than in Jenny Han's third book. Not only is her appearance different — in the text, Conrad describes Agnes as having wavy, chin-length dirty-blond hair, glasses, and skin as pale as milk — but the nature of their relationship is different as well. In the book, Agnes asks Conrad out and they have a fling. Conrad (Christopher Briney) in The Summer I Turned Pretty Photo: Erika Doss © Amazon Content ... In the first episode, we learn that maybe Agnes wanted more, but shes mentions that Conrad was clear from the get go that he wasn't interested in a relationship. She then asks if he's ever been in love, and he tells her only once: Belly. In Episode 2, Conrad is let go from the summer clinic after Dr. Namazy fires him for mislabeling a blood sample. She had previously offered him the day off after learning that Steven was in a serious accident, but he declined. Dr. Namazy tells him he's not ready and lets him go. Later, Agnes visits him at home and talks to him about how he processes and carries his emotions, hinting that she may have a larger role in future episodes than she did in the book. Who gets married in this episode? The fourth episode of The Gilded Age Season 3, titled 'Marriage is a Gamble,' has left viewers grappling with a whirlwind of emotion as Gladys Russell, played by Taissa Farmiga, ties the knot with the Duke of Buckingham (Ben Lamb) under the weight of familial and societal the HBO period drama continues to blend fictional intrigue with historical inspiration, Episode 4 marks a turning point for the Russell family, particularly for Bertha Russell (Carrie Coon), whose ambitions closely mirror those of real-life Gilded Age socialite Alva Vanderbilt, as per a report by episode revolves around the intense build-up to Gladys's much-publicised wedding. Throughout most of the installment, the young heiress remains confined to her room, uncertain about whether she wishes to follow through with her engagement to the English aristocrat. Her inner turmoil is palpable as she weighs her own desires against the expectations thrust upon her by her mother and New York's to entertainment media, Farmiga remarked that Gladys was driven to agree to the marriage out of emotional exhaustion and heartbreak. 'She's tired of feeling awful,' the actor shared, as quoted in a report by Decider. Her decision comes in the aftermath of a broken romance with Billy Carlton and amid unrelenting pressure to secure a match deemed socially one of the episode's most emotionally charged scenes, George Russell (Morgan Spector) confronts his daughter as she contemplates backing out. While he offers to cancel the wedding, George admits that such a move would come at a significant social cost, one that Gladys alone would noted the complexities of the character's actions: 'George still tries to be the good father, but he's already failed to protect her.' The actor criticised the scene as unfair to Gladys, as her father essentially places the burden of social fallout squarely on her Gladys proceeds with the wedding, ending the episode aboard a yacht with the Duke en route to England. Though the ceremony meets society's approval, it leaves a hollow note of resignation. Farmiga described the wedding day as 'emotionally exhausting', a moment that signified not triumph but quiet parallels between Gladys and Consuelo Vanderbilt are unmistakable. Consuelo, daughter of Alva Vanderbilt, was famously coerced into marrying the Duke of Marlborough — an act that symbolised American wealth merging with British nobility. While The Gilded Age draws inspiration from such figures, showrunner Julian Fellowes has stressed that Gladys is not a direct replica. 'We use incidents from real lives, but the characters are still fictional,' he Bertha Russell, the wedding marks a major step in her ongoing quest to conquer New York high society. Much like Alva Vanderbilt, she sees the union as an investment in legacy — an opportunity to place her daughter among the aristocracy of Europe. 'She's giving Gladys a position that could make her a world figure,' Fellowes noted, defending Bertha's the emotional price paid by Gladys is evident. Unlike her mother's calculated vision, the young bride is left grappling with uncertainty about her future and a lingering sense of being forced into adulthood without Spector and Taissa Farmiga both expressed how intense the wedding scene was to film. Spector admitted it was 'brutal,' especially knowing that George had promised Gladys she could choose her path, only to walk her down the aisle regardless. 'It's heartbreaking,' he said, acknowledging the complex emotions series has often drawn attention for its nuanced portrayal of power, status, and sacrifice among New York's elite. With Episode 4, The Gilded Age moves further into the territory of emotional realism, even as it maintains its Gladys and the Duke depart for Sidmouth Castle in England, new narrative possibilities open up. The show's creator has hinted that the next chapter of the Russell family saga may explore English aristocracy in more depth, with some fans even speculating on possible connections to Downton Abbey, another Fellowes four episodes still remaining in the season, viewers are left to wonder how the fallout from Gladys's wedding will affect the Russells. Netflix's new mystery thriller series has already broken into the top 10 — and it could be your perfect summer binge-watch

If you're looking for a fresh thriller to dive into this week, Netflix's new French limited series 'Under a Dark Sun' might be worth a look. It dropped on July 9, and while it didn't really make much noise last week, it has since climbed into the U.S. top 10, sitting comfortably at No. 8 as of today. The six-episode mystery follows a single mother trying to put her past behind her. But her new beginning takes a dark turn after she accepts a job at a flower farm in Provence, only to become the main suspect when the farm's patriarch is found dead. This premise alone sounds like prime material for an engaging binge-watch this week. Plus, the setting in Provence offers a unique visual style compared to typical thrillers, and I'm definitely someone who appreciates a series more when it's visually appealing. For those who enjoy twisty whodunits filled with plot twists and plenty of family drama, 'Under a Dark Sun' could well deserve a spot on your summer watchlist. Here's everything to know about the series and whether it's worth your time. 'Under a Dark Sun' follows Alba Mazier (Ava Baya), a single mother who arrives at a flower farm in Provence after receiving a mysterious job offer. Hoping for a fresh start, she instead finds herself at the center of a murder investigation when the farm's owner, Arnaud Lasserre (Thibault de Montalembert), is found dead. The situation escalates when it's revealed that Arnaud was Alba's biological father, and she's named in his will as an heir to part of his estate. As suspicion mounts, Alba must defend herself against both the law and the Lasserre family, who are determined to protect their inheritance. She finds an unlikely ally in Manon (Claire Romain), Arnaud's granddaughter and her defense lawyer, while Arnaud's widow Béatrice (Isabelle Adjani) leads efforts to cut Alba out of the picture. Get instant access to breaking news, the hottest reviews, great deals and helpful tips. 'Under a Dark Sun' seems to have plenty of intriguing ingredients that could make for a gripping watch. At its core, it's a sun-drenched mystery wrapped in family drama, with a single mother caught in the middle of some dangerous secrets. Not really standout material but you can't deny that it sounds genuinely interesting. At its core, it's a sun-drenched mystery wrapped in family drama, with a single mother caught in the middle of some dangerous secrets. With just six episodes, it's a relatively quick binge that won't demand a huge time commitment. The setting in sunny Provence adds an interesting visual contrast to the darker storylines, helping it feel a bit different from your usual thriller fare on Netflix. As with many international series, watching with subtitles is the best way to fully appreciate the performances and original tone. At the time of writing, 'Under a Dark Sun' doesn't have a Rotten Tomatoes score, but there are some reviews online. Decider's Joel Keller said: 'Under A Dark Sun has just enough thrills, despite a pedestrian mystery, and fun-to-watch performances by Baya and Adjani, that the show is worth a viewer's time.' Meanwhile, Charles Hartford from But Why Tho? A Geek Community stated the show 'delivers a multi-layered story that comes together in some aspects, but not others. The characters and narrative coalesce to form a tense and compelling tale that, however, never fully materializes due to presentational shortcomings.' The Review Geek's Greg Wheeler said: 'Despite its messy execution, Under a Dark Sun is an easy binge with strong performances, a compelling lead, and just enough intrigue to carry you through. If you can overlook its plot holes, there's fun to be had — just don't expect a flawless mystery here.' The general vibe is that 'Under a Dark Sun' isn't a perfect mystery, with some plot holes and uneven execution holding it back. However, strong performances from Baya and Adjani help keep the show engaging, delivering enough tension to maintain interest. While the story may feel flat at times and the presentation occasionally falters, it still offers an easy, entertaining binge for those who don't mind overlooking some flaws. If you're someone who enjoys twisty whodunits that aren't too complicated, this French limited series might be worth checking out, even if it's something you stick on in the background. You can stream 'Under a Dark Sun' on Netflix now. Otherwise, see what else is new on Netflix in July 2025.
