John Stamos Says He Broke The News Of Brian Wilson's Death To Mike Love

Yahoo14-06-2025
'Full House' actor John Stamos heard about the death of founding Beach Boys member Brian Wilson like most others, but had the uniquely difficult duty of breaking that news to band member Mike Love — who 'didn't say one word' for several hours after.
Wilson, Love's cousin and the band's primary songwriter, died Wednesday at 82.
Love mourned his cousin in a speech Thursday while being inducted into the 2025 Songwriters Hall of Fame, where Stamos introduced him. Stamos learned about Wilson's death upon landing in New York City for Love's induction.
'I was with Mike, I got off the plane, and I got the text,' Stamos told the New York Post on the red carpet Thursday. 'I was like, 'Oh boy, I guess I better [tell him].' I said, 'Mike, your cousin passed away,' and his face went blank.'
'We sat in the car for two and a half hours or so… he didn't say one word,' he continued.
Stamos said he didn't ask the singer how he was feeling.
'I knew how he was feeling,' he said Thursday.
The actor experienced the loss of his best friend and 'brother' of 50 years, Mike Owen, to a sudden heart attack last year. He also lost his former 'Full House' co-star Bob Saget to an accidental head injury in 2022.
Love and Wilson founded the Beach Boys in 1961 alongside Wilson's brothers Dennis and Carl, along with Al Jardine. Wilson wrote and produced most of their songs in addition to his work as a singer, while Love became the band's lead vocalist.
Their relationship grew strained when Love sued Wilson for defamation over his 1991 memoir, 'Wouldn't It Be Nice: My Own Story,' alleging Wilson and publisher HarperCollins inaccurately portrayed him and minimized his songwriting contributions to the band.
Love again sued Wilson in 1993, alleging that he deserved songwriting credits on dozens of Beach Boys songs that didn't list him as an official writer. Love was reportedly awarded $13 million and retroactive songwriting credits on 35 tracks.
Wilson's cause of death has yet to be determined or publicly shared. The singer-songwriter had reportedly been diagnosed with schizoaffective disorder and bipolar disorder, and had regularly experienced auditory hallucinations since the 1960s.
His death sparked heartfelt tributes from around the world, including one from Love.
'Today, the world lost a genius, and I lost a cousin by blood and my partner in music,' he wrote Thursday on Instagram. 'Brian Wilson wasn't just the heart of The Beach Boys — he was the soul of our sound… I'll miss you forever, my beloved cousin.'

Jennifer Tilly, 66, Poses for Nude 'Thirst Trap' Photo in Her Swimming Pool

The 'RHOBH' star posed for the revealing snap wearing nothing but red lipstick, sunglasses and a flower in her hair NEED TO KNOW Jennifer Tilly stripped down to nothing but red lipstick, sunglasses and a flower in her hair for an Instagram post on Monday, Aug. 18 "Thirst trap," she simply captioned the photo Tilly joined season 14 of The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills as a friend of the show last year Jennifer Tilly is baring all! The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star, 66, stripped down to nothing but sunglasses and a flower in her hair for an Instagram post shared Monday, Aug. 18. Leaving little to the imagination, Tilly stood completely nude in a pool as she folded her arms and stared into the camera, completing her look with red lipstick. She received lots of love in the comments section from fellow Bravolebrities and fans. LaLa Kent applauded Tilly's post with a "👏" Emoji while Lisa Rinna wrote, "🔥🔥🔥." Actress Donna D'Errico commented, "On fire! 🔥," while another fan added, "Consider me trapped." The Chucky actress joined season 14 of RHOBH as a friend of the show last year. She revealed what it was really like to film for the series, confessing it wasn't as glamorous as she thought it would be. 'I remember I was like, 'I live in Beverly Hills, and it'd be kind of fun to see Beverly Hills through the lens of really rich people,' ' she told Vulture in an interview published in August 2024. 'I thought that I was going to see a lot of people shopping on Rodeo Drive, but a lot of the filming that they do is in the Valley, in places where it's easier to get permits. So it's not like you're at the fanciest places in Beverly Hills, arguing.' Still, she later added that there was no shortage of drama. 'You come in without a script. It's just sort of like they just wade in there, and they go at it,' the Academy Award winner continued. 'In real life, if you're at a restaurant and people at the table are screaming at each other, you're mortified like, 'Oh my God. I can't believe I'm with these uncouth people.' But when I am sitting at a table with Housewives, I feel like I have a front-row seat at the Super Bowl.' Tilly also noted that she has no regrets about her new gig. 'I appreciate what they do,' she said of Housewives. 'I'm just going to say it's really challenging. It's the craziest thing I've ever done, but I'm really happy I'm doing it, and I think it's such an interesting kind of sharp left turn for my career.' "I'm not a Housewife. I'm a Friend, though, which is a lot easier," she continued in part. "You just dip in and out. You try to avoid, like, flying shrapnel. And you know, if drinks are thrown, I have good reflexes." The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills can be streamed on Peacock. Read the original article on People Solve the daily Crossword
