Rajesh Khanna and Dimple Kapadia's marriage: In 1973, at just 15 years old, Dimple Kapadia was on the cusp of a dream debut in Raj Kapoor's Bobby opposite his son, Rishi Kapoor. But even as she prepared for stardom and fate, but life had other plans.
According to Bombay Superstar, Dimple had no inkling of the conversation that had taken place between her father and her then-future husband, Rajesh Khanna. The news of their impending marriage spread like wildfire after Khanna himself called a journalist friend, Devi, in the middle of the night, promising 'the scoop of the century."
On the day of the wedding, Khanna surprised his young nephew Rajeev by barging into his classroom, whisking him and his sister away to buy fancy clothes for the evening ceremony. 'I couldn't believe he was getting married," Rajeev recalled, adding, 'I kept asking him if it was for real."
The wedding became the most talked-about event of the year. His massive female fan following were left heartbroken. Rajesh Khanna 's aunt, Madhu Talwar, remembered the frenzy around the event, saying everything went exactly as Kaka wanted. But despite the grand buzz, reality soon set in. The honeymoon was postponed because Dimple had to return to finish shooting Bobby. Khanna had made it clear he wanted a homemaker, not an actress, and Dimple agreed to step away from films after her debut.
