India in England: Crawley and Duckett put hosts in control after Day 2
With Ravindra Jadeja and Shardul Thakur unbeaten and all-rounder Washington Sundar in the dug-out, India were hoping to put a good total on the board when the play resumed. But with a new ball in their hands, English pacers started brilliantly, especially Jofra Archer, who had Jadeja in his first over of the day. The Saurashtra all-rounder could only add a solitary run to his overnight total as India suffered an early loss. Jadeja edged an incoming delivery from Archer which carried to second slip. Harry Brook had to dive to his right to complete the catch.
Washington came in and added 48 runs with Thakur for the sixth wicket but Stokes broke the partnership bringing in Pant to the crease amid rousing reception from the spectators. Light drizzle forced an early lunch but the visitors lost wickets of Washington and Test debutant Anshul Kamboj quickly soon after the lunch leaving Pant with no option than looking for boundaries in his bid to add to the team's total. He apparently was not amused with the way Washington got out. The Tamil Nadu all-rounder hooked a short-pitched delivery from Stokes but was caught on the edge of the long leg boundary by Chris Woakes. Kamboj departed in the same over as Stokes produced an outstanding delivery that pitched on good length and seamed away with the batter getting a thin edge that was held comfortably by wicketkeeper Jamie Smith.

London Spirit investor unhappy on key players missing the Hundred opener due to IND vs ENG series: ‘Many people invested hundreds of millions of pounds'
The recently concluded Anderson-Tendulkar trophy has been compared to one of the greatest Test series in the modern era, which is the 2005 Ashes. While the taste of some tasty Test cricket was still on the taste buds among the English fans, the Hundred tournament started just 24 hours after. In the season opener London Spirit took on the Oval Invincibles. The former were soundly thrashed by the latter. The Spirits missed their key players in Ollie Pope, Jamie Smith, and Jamie Overton, who were all part of the final Test. One of the investors in the Spirit team, Nikesh Arora, pointed out that because of the amounts that are being invested, it is important to make a better schedule so that the marquee players are available. 'I just think that in future we have to make sure it's timed in such a way that if you're only going to have a 26-day tournament where many people invested hundreds of millions of pounds, it's only fair that we create enough space so all the right people can play,' Arora said, speaking to The Telegraph. 'Some of the guys were required to rest until a few days after the first match which is kind of disappointing,' he said. 'I understand it. I think for the future it requires better planning. I would never want a sportsperson to be extended because we want them to play well for a very long period of time. They've just come out of a spectacular series, made even more spectacular by the ending. I'm still smiling from it,' he added. While the other investor in Spirit, Satyan Gajwani, said there is going to be a bit of friction between both the Test matches and the Hundred, he reassured that it is good for the game and that it will serve different audiences. 'We also saw that with the IPL in its first five years. Any new format is going to have tension, and there's going to be tension between Tests and the Hundred. But I think overall, it's good for the game. I think it attracts different audiences. It widens the scope of fans that could be interested in cricket.'

Speaking on All Over Bar The Cricket, Hayden said that Fortis seemed to be trying to show power and acting like the boss of the venue before the crucial Test match. He said that Gambhir had a right to react but should have used better language. 'This is a typical case in England. It is a bit of a flex, here we are, final Test match, this is my venue, and they are going to try and make it difficult on Gautam Gambhir. But I think he's got every right to tone it down. He could have used better language. But the reality is, his team is trying to train ahead of the most important Test match,' Hayden said. Before the fifth Test, the series stood at 2-1, with India needing a win in the last match to draw the contest. India eventually won the match by a narrow margin of just 6 runs and avoided a series defeat. Mohammed Siraj picked up a five-wicket haul to help India register the historic win at The Oval. Another former Australian player and commentator, Greg Blewett, also agreed with Hayden. He said he understood Gambhir's frustration because even commentators are told to stay away from the pitch at English grounds. But Blewett added that Gambhir could have handled the situation in a better way. 'I agree. Even now, even as a commentator, you get near the pitch and everyone is saying you can't get anywhere near it and you're like I haven't got spikes on. It is quite ridiculous. I get the frustration. But I agree that the language that he used wasn't great. If he reflects, he could have probably handled it a little better,' Blewett said. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD
