The Ninth Cut Butchery & Steakhouse in Dubai

Time Out Dubai25-04-2025

One sure-fire first impression of Dubai? It's a city that loves to be extra, going beyond what you would expect in all the right ways. Whether that's gold flakes speckled on your breakfast, a Ferrari jet ski on the Palm or sipping on a mixed beverage with a killer view, there's no denying this city goes that extra mile.
But sometimes, you stumble upon a place that has none of those elements. No gold and no view, but with its offering, impresses so much, you won't need any of the extras.
Tucked away at the Novotel Hotel in Al Barsha and moments away from the Mashreq metro station stands The Ninth Cut. Despite it looking like a simple, warmly lit restaurant on the outside (which it is), here you will find much more.
There's a butchery and a deli to explore too – a meat-lovers' paradise, if you will. You'll find a wide selection of meats on full display as you make your way from the entrance to your table (so bear this in mind if your plus one is on the squeamish side).

From oxtail and brisket to dry-aged cuts, the variety extends far beyond the usual cuts of beef. There's lamb, chicken and even veal hanging from the ceiling, all of which you can package up and take home.
But if you're here to stay for dinner, you're in good hands as the team here really know what they're talking about. Diners are guided to the state-of-the-art butchery to handpick their chosen piece of meat, cooking preference and sauce – the bone marrow jus is outstanding.
Pick the asparagus side smothered in parmesan and a side of patatas bravas for a different take on steak-frites. Or, if the à la carte takes your fancy, the meat-filled plates are equally as impressive.
Smoked beef cheek with pearl couscous is hearty, but for a midweek treat, the Ninth Cut burger is a juicy option. But be sure to order the butcher's burger for a fully loaded patty of crispy beef bacon and caramelised onions, both options served with chunky fries of course.

While your main is getting cooked to perfection, we wouldn't judge if you're tempted by a starter or two (guilty). The baked brie with fresh focaccia will please the entire table, while the kibbeh nayeh (raw diced lamb) with grilled pita bread curbs that meat craving.
Prices are very reasonable, with everything on the menu falling under the Dhs200 mark – an absolute win for a steakhouse.
You needn't come here for dinner to experience The Ninth Cut at its finest, though. It's equally brilliant for lunch. For an added personal touch, you can even have a knife engraved with your initials and a custom apron, which makes a keepsake gift for someone visiting.
The Ninth Cut offers a wonderfully low-key experience that (even without the killer views and Ferrari jet skis) is exactly what you need for a night out featuring excellent food, warm service and prices that won't break the bank.

In a surprise video call with the brothers – Ewan, 33, Jamie, 32, and Lachlan Maclean, 28 – Wahlberg praised their mission to row 9,000 miles non-stop and unsupported from Lima, Peru, to Sydney, Australia. Mark, 54 said: 'I'm so inspired by you guys - You're badasses doing something no one else would even think of. 'This could be a movie. The best films I've done are based on true stories — ordinary people doing extraordinary things. No way I'd row an ocean, but I'd play one of you guys in a movie.' The trio called the chat with Wahlberg a 'surreal boost' as they are currently battling salt sores, relentless weather, a broken watermaker, and a faulty autohelm – with over 5,000 miles still to go to reach Sydney. They also have £900,000 left to raise towards their £1 million target for clean water projects in Madagascar – the call with one of their heroes was a welcome and 'surreal' boost. Mark was also amazed to hear the brothers had hooked a giant tuna, leading him to recall his time filming the smash hit 2000 movie The Perfect Storm where he starred as a fisherman with George Clooney. He told them: 'When I was preparing to do The Perfect Storm, I went out on a sword boat — in Ocean City, Maryland, a longliner, and we were actually fishing. 'We caught some pretty big tuna — 500, 600 pounders. I don't know how you guys are gonna wrestle that thing onto that boat, man. Oh my gosh.' He added: 'What you guys are doing is next level. You're living out a sense of purpose – combining passion with impact. That's rare, and it's humbling to watch. People need to hear about what you're doing. 'I couldn't be more inspired by the grit, the determination, the resiliency. What you guys are doing for such an amazing cause, and how hard you're willing to sacrifice yourself and your own wellbeing for the good of others, is so inspiring. A-listers in surprisingly humble cars & why Daniel Radcliffe feels 'more comfortable in a £2k hatchback than a Ferrari' 'For you guys to do this under your own free will – it's pretty crazy. Some would say we might need to give you a couple of psychological examinations.' The actor, who owns restaurants in Sydney and the Gold Coast, also promised the brothers a meal at the finish line, which will be a welcome reward after four months or so of freeze-dried meals. He continued: 'We'll have a meal waiting for you. By that time, we may even be down there to welcome you.' Supporters can follow their journey and donate to their cause at

Lewis Hamilton apologises to Sky Sports F1 pundit over behaviour at Spanish GP

Lewis Hamilton was in a prickly mood during his post-race interview with Sky Sports' Rachel Brookes after finishing sixth at the Spanish Grand Prix on Sunday afternoon Lewis Hamilton gave an off-camera apology to Sky Sports F1's Rachel Brookes for his terse responses during a post-race interview after the Spanish Grand Prix. The seven-time Formula 1 champion had endured another discouraging day while racing for Ferrari. That led to some tension when speaking to Brookes in the media pen following his sixth-placed finish. Hamilton, after being passed by Nico Hulkenberg in the Sauber and later gaining a position due to Max Verstappen's penalty, is still chasing his first podium with his new team. ‌ His emotions were obvious when talking to Brookes. To her question about his immediate thoughts on the race, Hamilton tersely said: "Not particularly, it was not a great day. The strategy was good, the team did a great job. Just, that's it." ‌ Sensing his downhearted demeanour, Brookes remarked: "I hate seeing you in this mood," which prompted a sharp retort from Hamilton who replied: "Well, what do you want me to say! ? I had a really bad day and I've got nothing to say." He continued with exasperation, "It was a difficult day, I've got nothing else to add to it. There's no point explaining it. It's not your fault I've just not got anything to say." Brookes offered some consolation, expressing hope that Ferrari would provide some solutions, to which Hamilton responded bleakly: "I'm sure they won't, the answer is probably just me." Hamilton's subsequent interviews with international media were similarly succinct, with few words spoken and a lack of hope for the future given. His tense Sky interview attracted a lot of attention on social media, leading the Brit to apologise to Brookes privately, as revealed by her colleague David Croft. "He was really down on himself and no-one likes to see that," the commentator shared on The Fast and the Curious podcast. "Because at the end of the day, whether you're a fan or not, Lewis Hamilton is the greatest racing driver we've ever seen. ‌ "Statistically he is the greatest, I think he's the greatest even without the stats. He wears his heart on his sleeve and should be applauded for that, because he does a lot of good when he wears his heart on his sleeve. "He did apologise to Rachel Brookes for being so down in the dumps. Off camera he said, 'I'm really sorry about that, I'm just so down'. And that just shows you the extent that he really was down, he's not putting it on for the cameras, trust me." Hamilton had just completed a triple-header of races in Imola, Monaco and Barcelona and now has a week's break before heading to Montreal for the Canadian Grand Prix.
