KOTA KINABALU: Gagasan Rakyat Tanjung Aru says it is keeping close to the ground by swiftly responding to grassroots concerns. Committee member Dr Ritchie Jay Cheng on Monday led a gotong-royong with residents of Kampung Tanjung Aru Lama to repair a wooden jetty that had become dangerously unsafe. The effort came after villagers alerted him about the risk of collapse. Dr Ritchie, who sponsored the works, said the jetty is a vital daily access point for the community. 'Safety of residents is the priority. Once we received the call, we immediately went down to take action,' he said. He added that the programme not only restored a critical facility but also strengthened community spirit. Four premises destroyed in Sipitang fire

SIPITANG: Four premises, including residential units and a prayer hall were destroyed in a fire in Kampung Batu 7, Kampung Pantai Sogip, here, Monday. Fire and Rescue Station Chief Calvin Joe Jeafery on Tuesday said two fire engines and six personnel were dispatched to the scene, arriving at 8.27am after receiving the distress call. Advertisement Firefighters used a 300ft hose with offensive tactics, drawing water from their vehicles. No casualties were reported. The cause of the fire and estimated losses remain under investigation. On the same day, personnel also responded to a snake intrusion at a house in Kampung Pelakat at 12.20pm, capturing the reptile that had hidden among boxes in the kitchen area. 35 take part in shooting event at Lok Kawi Camp pistol range

Advertisement Participating agencies included the Sabah National Security Council (MKN), Kota Kinabalu City Hall (DBKK), Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama), Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) and the Sabah Information Department. 'This platform helps strengthen ties between agencies and organisations in Sabah and recognises those who have supported our operational duties,' he told reporters after the event. He said the division is also considering extending future invitations to retired military personnel, acknowledging their past contributions to national defence. Kedah airport runway closed after ‘incident' with air force aircraft

(KLIA2 pic) PETALING JAYA: The runway of Sultan Abdul Halim Airport in Kedah has been temporarily closed after an incident involving an air force aircraft at around 11.30am. Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd said the runway was closed to help with the removal of the aircraft and for 'clearing works'. Advertisement 'A notice to airmen has been issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Malaysia, and the closure is expected to remain in effect until 4pm today. 'Passengers are advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest flight updates,' it said in a Facebook post. It is not immediately clear what had occurred. In May, the Alor Setar airport's runway was also forced to close after an air force fighter jet skidded on its nose while landing.
