Lauding Koraput Coffee, NITI Aayog wrote on its X handle, "From the mist elevations of Koraput, Odisha, nestled at 3,000 feet in the Eastern Ghats, emerges a brew that is rich in flavour as it is in heritage — Koraput Coffee."
"Koraput Coffee — A flavour born of the highlands, rooted in tradition and grown with pride," it added.
The post praised Koraput Coffee for its premium Arabica beans, directly procured from tribal farmers by the Tribal Development Co-operative Corporation of Odisha Ltd (TDCCOL), ensuring fair prices and dignity for the growers.
Tracing its origins, NITI Aayog highlighted that coffee cultivation in Koraput dates back to the 1930s during the reign of the Jeypore king. The practice was further institutionalised through govt support in 1958 and large-scale land allotments to tribal families between 1989 and 2016. By 2015-16, the coffee-growing area had expanded to over 1,400 hectares.
The Coffee Development Trust, set up in 2017 along with the Coffee Board, has been instrumental in promoting ecological sustainability and tribal empowerment through training programs, land access and market linkages.
Women self-help groups (SHGs) play a critical role in nurturing coffee seedlings and contributing to both economic and social development in the region.
Reacting to the recognition, Koraput collector Keerthi Vasan V said, "It's a proud moment for the district and everyone associated with Koraput Coffee. Under the Aakanksha programme of NITI Aayog, we had submitted the proposal, and we are happy that Koraput Coffee now finds a place in their list."

The administration has ambitious plans to scale up cultivation. For 2025-26, the district aims to undertake shade plantation on 4,000 hectares and coffee cultivation on 800 hectares. There is also a proposal to involve more local womens SHGs in coffee processing to boost production and make the product more widely available in retail outlets.
At present, Koraput boasts 3,500 hectares under coffee cultivation, including 778 hectares of private plantations managed by nearly 4,300 tribal farmers. A govt study has identified 1.46 lakh hectares of land in the district as suitable for coffee farming, underscoring the massive untapped potential for Koraput Coffee in the domestic and global markets.

Will PM update his Canadian counterpart on India being third-largest economy: Congress takes dig at PM Modi
Congress leader Jairam Ramesh took a swipe at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday (June 7, 2025), describing him as 'Swayam Udghoshit Vishwaguru', and asked whether during his meetings at the G7 Summit, he would update his Canadian counterpart, Mark Carney, on India being the third-largest economy. Mr. Carney had, while justifying his invite to India for the G7 Summit in Kananaskis, Alberta, later this year, said some countries should be at the table for the discussions at the summit. 'On May 24th, 2025, while addressing the media following the NITI Aayog meeting chaired by the PM, the CEO of the NITI Aayog had dramatically announced that while he was speaking, India had crossed Japan to become the world's third-largest economy. Now the Canadian PM — a distinguished professional economist who has been the Governor of the Central Bank of Bank of Canada as well as of the Bank of England — says that India is the fifth largest economy in the world,' Mr. Ramesh said in a post on X. 'Perhaps, India's first SUV — Swayam Udghoshit Vishwaguru — can update his Canadian counterpart when the two meet in a few days,' Mr. Ramesh said. After inviting PM Modi to the G7 Summit, Mr. Carney said India is the fifth-largest economy and, effectively, the most populous country in the world and central to a number of supply chains and hence, it makes sense to invite the country to the summit. Naidu unveils vision to transform Vizag into ‘New Mumbai' by 2032
Vijayawada: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu on Friday unveiled an ambitious vision to transform Visakhapatnam into a new Mumbai over the next seven years. He directed officials to develop the 'Visakha Economic Region' as AP's primary growth engine, aiming for a staggering $120 billion economy from this region by 2032. The proposed economic region encompasses eight districts, including Visakhapatnam, Vizianagaram, Srikakulam, Anakapalli, Kakinada, East Godavari, Alluri Sitharama Raju (ASR), and Manyam. The Chief Minister has instructed the officials to launch projects that will significantly boost economic activity across these eight districts, which spread across 36,000 square kilometers and are home to 15.5 million people. Currently, this region's GDP stands at nearly $49 billion. According to the Chief Minister, this region alone can generate 20 to 24 lakh jobs by 2032, making it vital for the state's future prosperity. During a review meeting on Friday with NITI Aayog officials, the Chief Minister outlined a comprehensive development strategy for the Visakhapatnam Economic Region. His proposal focused on six ports, seven manufacturing nodes, 17 major agricultural zones, six service hubs and 12 tourism hubs. The NITI Aayog officials presented a detailed plan, focusing on seven key growth drivers for the region: ports, IT, agriculture, tourism, healthcare, urban development, and infrastructure. A total of 41 crucial projects are slated for prioritised implementation. "We will develop beach roads from Mulapeta to Visakhapatnam and from Visakhapatnam to Kakinada, connecting them to national highways. Our coast is a true treasure. We must fully leverage its potential," the Chief Minister said, adding that his government accorded industry status to tourism and rolled out a highly investor-friendly policy. On future workforce needs, the Chief Minister highlighted the importance of continuous skill training for youth. He also revealed plans to provide work-from-home opportunities to 20 lakh people. For the IT sector, Naidu set a target of creating 4-5 lakh jobs over the next seven years, with a strong emphasis on establishing data centers, startups, and innovation hubs. He further said Andhra Pradesh is prioritising the development of solar, wind, pumped hydro, battery storage, and green hydrogen as part of its energy strategy. The CM highlighted the state's abundant natural resources to support this vision and urged NITI Aayog to extend its support in bringing it to fruition. Later, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Andhra government, NITI Aayog, and the ISEG Foundation for the State Energy Transition Roadmap. The current installed power generation capacity in the state is 27.3 GW. Electricity demand in the state rose from 55.6 BU (billion units) in 2019 to 69.7 BU in 2025 while industrial demand grew by 4.8 percent and household demand by 5.1 per cent. Power demand is projected to rise from 88.6 BU next year to 163.9 BU by 2035.
