Koraput admn organises health camp in Kotia village
1 2 3 Koraput: The Koraput administration on Saturday organised a mega health camp at Narediwalsa, the last village bordering Andhra Pradesh, in Kotia panchayat under Pottangi block. Held amid tight administrative arrangements, the camp extended essential medical services to 286 villagers. A team of specialist doctors attended to patients across general medicine, paediatrics, ophthalmology and non-communicable diseases (NCDs). Free medicines and diagnostic kits were also provided. According to official data, the camp recorded 92 paediatric, 87 ophthalmic, 72 general and 35 antenatal cases. A total of 194 individuals underwent NCD screening, while malaria testing was conducted using rapid diagnostic kits (RDK) in 112 cases. Tests confirmed two malaria cases. Koraput collector Keerthi Vasan V said the initiative is part of a larger plan to organise weekly mega health camps in each of the 28 villages under Kotia panchayat. "Patients identified with serious conditions will be referred to nearby hospitals or the SLN Medical College and Hospital for advanced treatment," he said. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Even Beautiful Women Have Their 'Oops' Moments Read More Undo To further strengthen healthcare infrastructure in Kotia, the administration has proposed establishing two additional sub-health centres, apart from the existing two at Kotia and Thuria, and a 10-bed hospital functioning in Kotia. "State govt's move to boost welfare and healthcare services is a strong attempt to assert its governance and address local developmental needs," said Ajay Pangi, a Kotia resident. "We welcome the initiative and urge the administration for regular health camps, improved road connectivity and sustained development interventions," he added. The health outreach has strategic importance due to the long-standing territorial dispute between Odisha and Andhra Pradesh over the ownership of 21 out of 28 villages under Kotia panchayat.

Koraput plans better support to students
Koraput: To improve learning outcomes among students, the Koraput administration has decided to implement a cluster-based teaching model in residential high schools and higher secondary schools run by the state's SC and ST development (SSD) department. "Cluster teaching will help optimise available resources and ensure students get better academic support. Special attention must be given to students who are struggling to understand the lessons," said collector (Koraput) Keerthi Vasan V, while chairing a review meeting of SSD schools on Tuesday. The collector asked headmasters and principals to ensure that students achieve better results in the upcoming Class 10 and 12 board examinations. He stressed that collective responsibility and focused efforts from teachers are key to improving the academic standing of the district. During the meeting, district welfare officer (Koraput) Sunil Kumar Tandi said to ensure that no academic activities are hit in the schools the teachers, headmasters, and principals will not be allowed to leave their institutions without prior approval from the district collector. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Tại sao CFD tiền mã hóa có thể phù hợp với danh mục đầu tư của bạn IC Markets Tìm hiểu thêm Undo "Leave applications must be submitted through the Human Resource Management and Reporting System (HMRMS)," said Tandi. Discipline and accountability among staff will directly impact student performance, he added. Acknowledging infrastructure challenges faced by the schools and hostels, the collector instructed the construction of staff quarters in schools that lack residential facilities for teachers. The authorities concerned have been asked to inspect and report on the condition of drinking water and sanitation facilities in schools and hostels to ensure they meet basic standards, the collector said. At least 162 schools are being run by the SSD Department in the district, catering to over 40,000 students.

Monsoon weaves its magic over Koraput
Koraput: When the monsoon sets in, Koraput doesn't just get drenched, it transforms. With clouds settling on its hilltops and waterfalls in full song, the district becomes a living, breathing canvas of green and grey, echoing with the rhythms of nature. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now At nearly 3,000 feet above sea level, this tribal heartland of southern Odisha turns mystical as the rains arrive. The roaring Duduma waterfall, the serene Gupteswar cave temple, the sweeping views from Deomali — the highest peak in Odisha and the mirror-still Kolab reservoir all come alive. "Monsoon is when Koraput truly comes alive. The rains enhance the natural beauty of the district — be it the misty hills, vibrant forests, or majestic waterfalls," said collector (Koraput) Keerthi Vasan V. The administration is working on sustainable tourism strategies to ensure that more people can experience this serene charm while also empowering local communities. The district's beauty, however, isn't confined to landmarks. Curvy ghat roads disappear into dense forests, vehicles ascend mist-wrapped hills, and trains journey through tunnels carved into rocky ridges, offering glimpses of dramatic valleys and rolling greenery. For tourists like Deepa Roy from Bengaluru, the experience is unforgettable. "I never imagined Koraput could look this magical in rain. The fog-draped mountains and the rhythmic sound of raindrops made my trip truly special," she said. Santosh Patra, another tourist was equally awed. "The entire region feels alive in monsoon — the waterfalls gush with force, the hills shimmer with freshness. It's a dream destination for nature lovers," he said. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now Despite its monsoon allure, many believe the district remains under-marketed. Indeed, Koraput in the rains is more than a destination-it's an emotion. "A place where clouds descend to meet the earth and nature writes poetry with every drop of rain, yet it doesn't get the attention it deserves. Initiatives like guided rain walks or monsoon treks through forested paths, valleys and coffee plantations can attract eco-conscious travellers," said Koraput-based environmentalist Bidyut Mohanty.

Koraput initiative aims to cut maternal healthcare gaps
Koraput: In a bid to plug critical gaps in maternal healthcare, the Koraput district administration recently launched 'Janmashree' — an initiative to ensure timely ultrasound scans and proactive management of high-risk pregnancies (HRPs) in the region. District officials revealed that nearly 90% of pregnant women in the region lack access to ultrasound (USG) services, and over 20% of high-risk cases remain undiagnosed due to systemic gaps. "Janmashree is our attempt to plug these healthcare gaps by institutionalising three mandatory and free USG scans — one during each trimester — for every pregnant woman in the district," said Koraput collector Keerthi Vasan V. He conceptualised the initiative. Since its pilot launch on June 13 at CHCs in Borigumma and Rabanaguda, the initiative has already facilitated 94 ultrasound scans. Janmashree aims to introduce structured monitoring and follow-up protocols across all healthcare levels — from sub-centres to district hospitals. Under this programme, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) are tasked with identifying and registering expectant mothers through the Janmashree app. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Invertir en Cervecería Nacional CFD podría proporcionarte un ingreso adicional Empieza a invertir hoy Registro Undo They schedule ultrasound appointments and ensure seamless referrals to nearby diagnostic centres. Post-examination, USG reports are uploaded in real time to facilitate early detection and management of high-risk cases. Additionally, the district has equipped all community health centres (CHCs) with ultrasound machines. Due to a shortage of radiologists and technicians, doctors are being deputed twice a week to these CHCs to conduct USG tests for pregnant women. "We have classified HRP cases into two categories — those arising from geographically isolated locations and those based on medical complications," the collector said. Targeted nutritional support is extended to these women in addition to existing POSHAN schemes, and they are closely monitored until delivery. The initiative also includes transport assistance for pregnant women on the day of their ultrasound appointments. Furthermore, reports and prescriptions are delivered directly to beneficiaries' doorsteps, all in compliance with the PC-PNDT Act. "The goal is not just early diagnosis but to guarantee that no pregnant woman is left without access to essential healthcare services," the collector said. Koraput supplies 1st batch of organic kalajeera rice to Puri temple
1 2 Koraput: In a proud milestone for tribal heartland, Koraput district administration flagged off the inaugural supply of organic kalajeera rice from Shabar Shreekhetra, Koraput to the Jagannath Temple, Puri, on Thursday. The initiative, launched on the auspicious occasion of Netrotsav, marks the beginning of the Amrut Anna Yojana, which aims to prepare Mahaprasad using organic rice. "It's a proud moment for tribal farmers of the district. As it has been decided by the Shree Jagannath Temple Administration, the rice will be used regularly in "Kotha Bhogo" and Mahaprasad during this year's Rath Yatra and beyond. Also, a dedicated Amrut Anna sales counter will be opened at the temple to offer organic Mahaprasad to devotees," said collector (Koraput) Keerthi Vasan V. The journey from Koraput to Puri also symbolizes the socio-cultural empowerment of tribal communities, promoting organic agriculture, food safety, and natural resource conservation. The initiative is expected to enhance the economic resilience of small holder farmers while placing Koraput firmly on India's GI map, he added. For the inaugural journey, 32 quintals of organic kalajeera rice, along with one quintal each of 'moong' and 'biri' (black gram), have been dispatched to Puri. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Wunstorf: GEERS sucht 700 Testhörer für Hörgeräte ohne Zuzahlung GEERS Undo The GI-tagged Koraput kalajeera rice, known for its aroma and fine quality, has been traditionally cultivated by small and marginal tribal farmers. With support from the state govt and Nabard, it received a Geographical Indication (GI) tag, opening new markets and boosting demand across India and overseas. In kharif 2024, over 1,800 farmers across eight blocks of Koraput cultivated kalajeera rice on 1,365 acres. For the first time, 1,900 quintals of paddy were directly procured through independent mandis set up by farmer groups. This year, the cultivation target has been scaled up to 2,000 acres, including indigenous varieties.
