Why is London a trending destination for Canadian travellers?
As Laura Lindsay, Skyscanner's travel trends and destinations expert highlighted, every neighbourhood in London "tells its own story."
"London is also a city made for exploring. Wander through the bohemian streets of Camden, soak up the creative energy in Shoreditch, or take in the pastel charm of Notting Hill," Lindsay stated. "With award-winning restaurants, weekend pop-ups, live music, and theatre on every corner, there's always something new to discover, whether it's your first visit or your fifth."
According to Skyscanner's 2025 Travel Trends Report, 35 per cent of Canadians aged 25 to 34 plan to travel to see a sporting event in 2025, and London is a great location for those travellers.
"Whether it's the roar of a Premier League crowd, a day at one of its historic cricket grounds, or the magic of Wimbledon, the energy is unbeatable," Lindsay shared. "London, with its world-class stadiums and electric fan culture, is high on the list."
How much does it cost to go to London in August from Canadian cities?
Using Skyscanner search data, roundtrip flights from Toronto to London in August can currently be found for as low as $743.
Flights from Vancouver to London currently start at $868, or $968 from Montreal.

3 expert tips on what to do in London
While you still get to experience the summer weather, spend an afternoon at Kew Gardens.
"As more people look for meaningful downtime during their trips, green spaces like Kew are becoming an essential part of the itinerary," Lindsay advised. "It's a quiet escape that still feels very much a part of London."
Markets are spectacular in London, including Borough Market for the foodies, which has been particularly popular on TikTok recently. Portobello Road Market, Brick Lane Market, Old Spitalfields Market and Broadway Market are great for vintage and antique lovers.
If you can get your hands on some tickets, going to a Premier League soccer (football) match is an amazing experience.
"Football is more than just a game here. It's part of the rhythm of the city," Lindsay stressed. "The atmosphere in the stadium [is] electric. Even if you're not a hardcore fan, you can't help but feel part of it."

Tips for finding the cheapest flights
If flight costs are getting you down, there are a few things Canadian travellers can do to ensure they're getting the best deal possible for their next vacation, both on the Skyscanner platform specifically and when looking for flights more generally.
Beat the crowds: For flights that are filling up fast, you'll want to make sure you're looking at the monthly view on travel search sites like Skyscanner to see the best possible option available for flight dates.
Set up alerts: Prices are always changing, so if you're hoping to travel to a specific destination, or on specific dates, set up a price alert so you can be quick if a deal comes up. Skyscanner specifically has a price alerts system for any cost changes.
Consider "Everywhere": If you're hoping for a new adventure, or a little rest and relaxation, but you don't have a specific destination in mind, the "Everywhere" search on Skyscanner may be your new best friend to discover the most affordable vacation destination possible.
Flexible dates: There may be certain times where you need to travel for specific dates, but the best deals are really revealed when you open yourself up to some flexibility. Even changing your travel dates by a day, or a week, can result in significant savings.

Public consultation begins into parking charges at three 'destination' Birmingham parks

The formal consultation into the city council's plans to charge motorists to park at three 'destination' Birmingham parks has begun. Birmingham City Council is now asking for the public's feedback on its proposals to introduce charges for drivers to park at Sutton Park in Sutton Coldfield, Lickey Hills Country park on the Birmingham Worcestershire border and at Sheldon Country Park, which is close to Birmingham Airport and is popular with plane spotters. The consultation will run from Friday, August 1 to Friday, August 29, across the summer school holiday period. Read more: Anger as Brum Council pushes ahead with 'unjust' park charges The city council says 'introducing charges at these parks will be bring Birmingham in line with similar places around the UK to offset the cost of maintaining these destination sites'. It says the charges are 'necessary' to 'help sustain, protect and maintain our 660 parks and green spaces'. The Sutton Park consultation plans to charge motorists who park after the first 30 minutes of any stay. The charges for most vehicles will be £1 from 30 minutes to an hour, £2 for one to two hours, £3 for two to three hours, £4 for three to four hours and £5 for for four to nine hours. Charges would apply from 9am until 6pm daily, every day of the year. Read more: 'Shocking' Park car parking charges plan slammed as MP says it'll cause 'misery' For buses the charges are £28 after 30 minutes and for up to nine hours. A season ticket will also be offered at £52 a year for the public, £39 to business applicants and free for volunteers. The charges will not include the Browns and Miller and Carter restaurant car parks, the Paddock car park near Town Gate and Midland Lodge which was put up for sale earlier this year. The Lickey Hills Country Park consultation says the proposed charges are £1 an hour for up to four hours, £5 for all day and £28 for coach parking at Beacon Hill only. The charges will apply 365 days a year from 9am to 6pm. There will also be a £52 season ticket offer. Blue badge holders can park for free. The Sheldon Country Park consultation proposes charges that will be slightly cheaper. Again the first 30 minutes is free, then the proposal is to charge 75p for 30 minute to an hour, £1.50 for one to two hours, £2.25 for two to three hours and £3.50 for upwards of three hours for the rest of the day. Charges are again proposed from 9am to 6pm every day. And a season ticket at £52 will also be offered, or £39 for businesses and free for volunteers. The formal consultations (all linked above) follow informal consultations, which took place at the end of last year. Get the latest BirminghamLive news direct to your inbox Cllr Majid Mahmood, cabinet member for environment and transport, said: 'We have some wonderful parks and green spaces across the city. 'But we need to be able to maintain them for the benefit of everyone. Introducing parking charges at these three major sites will help protect and maintain all our green spaces. 'Whether you use these parks for walking, cycling, exercising or meeting up with people, we want to hear your views on rate of charging and when we you should be charged. 'We are also aware of potential impact of displacement parking and will therefore be looking at traffic restrictions in existing hotspot areas and any need for further restrictions following residents' feedback.'

11 things you should never travel without if you're over 50, according to a flight attendant

Travelling for the August long weekend? From comfy shoes to a water bottle, these travel essentials are flight attendant-approved. Got an August long weekend trip or summer vacation planned? If you're flying, there are certain travel essentials you'll want to have on hand for a comfortable experience. It's always good to be prepared — and who has more experience with what to pack than someone who spends thousands of hours a year in the sky? Pam Huynh is a flight attendant with Air Canada, with nine years of experience in the travel industry. We asked Huynh for her list of packing essentials, with special attention to items people over the age of 50 should always have on hand when flying, whether in their carry-on or checked luggage. Keep scrolling to see what she recommends, and to shop her picks. Comfortable shoes Comfortable footwear is a must when travelling, especially if you're someone who likes to take their shoes off on the plane. The best option? Slip-ons. 'Because people don't have a lot of legroom, I find they try to bend over to tie their shoes,' Huynh says. 'Slip-on shoes are so much easier.' She also adds that depending on your destination and what airport(s) you go through, you might have to remove your shoes for security. That makes slip-ons and even smarter choice. If you're someone who requires a bit more support and cushioning, Huynh recommends Sketchers for their arch support. Pillows Huynh says she would "definitely" recommend bringing along a neck pillow when flying, especially for those who struggle with neck or back pain — or if you just find flights bother your body. 'If you're trying to save space, the blow-up ones are great, but I prefer the comfy ones that you can button around your luggage," she says. 'Especially if you're in the middle of a three seater — you need the extra support." Huynh also recommends that travellers bring other things to help with comfort, such as a back pillow or seat cushion, especially for longer flights. 'People keep saying that the airplane seat cushions have gotten thinner and thinner, the materials less comfy,' she says. 'You want to be as comfortable as you are in your home.' Something to keep you warm Temperatures can fluctuate on planes, which can be particularly uncomfortable for travellers who may be more sensitive to temperature changes. With this in mind, Huynh recommends travelling with something versatile you can cozy up in, such as a blanket scarf. 'if you don't want to bring a blanket, I see a lot of people bringing blanket scarves,' she says. 'I think it's a really good idea.' Another option she recommends? A lightweight cardigan. Handheld fan Speaking of fluctuating temperatures, if you're someone who tends to overheat — or if you're just travelling somewhere hot — a pocket-sized fan is a great essential to have on hand. 'I like a handheld fan, those rechargeable ones,' says Huynh. 'I carry those around too.' She also says that most planes now have a compatible charger, so you can make sure you don't run out of juice. Pill case It's a good idea to bring along painkillers and other basic travel medication with you, especially if you're someone who has chronic pain. Whether you're travelling with Advil and Tums, or you're bringing along prescription medication, Huynh says a pill case can be very handy to have. 'You definitely want to bring your pills in your carry on, and those pill cases are very handy,' she says. Just make sure you have (or know) the instructions for how to take any medication you're bringing along with you. She also recommends labelling the pills - nwhich can also be helpful when going through security. Earbuds While earphones for a flight may be a given, Huynh specifically recommends travelling with a pair that has an audio jack, which she says many travellers often forget about. 'A lot of people either only have AirPods or bluetooth headphones with USB-C output,' she says. 'Not all airplanes have that. So if you want to watch movies or listen to music on the screen in front of your chair, you need earphones with an audio jack.' Compression socks Leg swelling, caused by fluid buildup, is common for older adults and can be exacerbated by sitting too long. While getting up and moving around can help, that's not always doable on a plane. You can also consider compression socks or stockings, which can help to improve blood flow and decrease pain and swelling in the legs. "A lot of people don't realize how much they're needed," says Huynh. "They're worth it." "If you're going on a flight for more than five hours, I would totally recommend it," she says. Water bottle It might seem obvious, but it's an important one. As adults age, drinking enough water is crucial — according to the U.S. National Council On Aging, dehydration is common among older adults. A reusable water bottle, then, is "100 per cent" a must-have when travelling says Huynh. Choosing a plastic version over a stainless steel bottle can also be easier for transporting, as it will be a lot lighter when full. "If you're bringing a water bottle, bring it empty and you can always refill it at the airport," she notes. Foldable backpack Huynh says she likes to bring along a foldable backpack for additional storage when she travels — which can be especially useful if you find it difficult to carry a single heavy bag. Huynh recommnds "one of those 20 litre-30 litre backpacks that folds into a bag," she says. "It packs up really small, in case I need to bring it anywhere. It's nice that it's compact." A foldable backpack can be a great item to have on hand if you find yourself needing some extra space in your luggage. It's also handy for using as you travel around in your destination. Sunscreen Sun protection is important at any age, but you'll definitely want to make sure you have some when you're 35,000 feet up in the air and sitting in a window seat. "Most people going on vacation, they're most likely not going anywhere cold," says Huynh. "Even then, the sun's always shining." She notes that if you are bringing sunscreen with you, make sure it fits within the limits of allowed liquids in your carry on luggage, or you'll have to keep it in your checked bag.
