Police to quiz actor who allegedly assaulted girlfriend

SHAH ALAM: Police will question the actor who allegedly assaulted his girlfriend.
Selangor police chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan said police received a report from the victim on April 7 over the incident that allegedly occurred in Ara Damansara.
"The victim suffered soft tissue injuries to her face and arm.
"We will call him in soon for questioning to facilitate investigations under Section 323 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing hurt," he said today.
Offenders face up to one year in jail, a fine of up to RM2,000 or both upon conviction.
Hussein said police records showed that the victim had lodged a report alleging that she was assaulted by the suspect last year.
"The victim later retracted the report," he said.
It was reported that actor Ammar Alfian denied allegations of assaulting a woman, claiming that he was framed to tarnish his reputation.
He addressed the accusation in an Instagram Story.
Ammar, known for his role in the film 'Paskal', said this was not the first time he faced such allegations.
His statement came after a woman claimed she was beaten and abused by the actor in the past year.

Man torches MBJB tow truck after car impounded in JB

A 31-year-old local man has been arrested for setting fire to a Johor Bahru City Council (MBJB) tow truck in retaliation after his vehicle was impounded by authorities. Johor Bahru South district police chief Assistant Commissioner Raub Selamat confirmed that the incident occurred at 11.07am, Saturday (Aug 16) at the MBJB vehicle storage depot located at Johor Bahru Waterfront. The suspect's actions stemmed from anger over his Perodua Axia being towed by MBJB on Wednesday. According to police investigations, the man lacked sufficient funds to pay the required compound fine and refused to file an appeal, claiming the process was too complicated. 'Investigation revealed that the suspect poured petrol and ignited flames on the tow truck, resulting in damages totaling RM10,000,' Raub said in a statement, yesterday. The video of the suspect setting fire to the vehicle has since gone viral. Authorities apprehended the suspect at 1.06pm the same day. Police also seized evidence including an aluminum container and a lighter used in the arson attack. Background checks revealed that the suspect has a previous criminal record related to drug offenses, though a current urine test returned negative results. 'The suspect is currently under a five-day remand order until August 19 to assist with investigations under Section 435 of the Penal Code,' Raub explained. The police chief issued a stern warning to the public against taking rash actions when dissatisfied with official procedures, emphasising that such behaviour endangers lives and damages public property. The case highlights growing tensions between motorists and enforcement authorities over vehicle impoundment procedures in Johor Bahru's busy urban areas.

PSC may summon Defence Ministry, MDIO officials over military leak

KUALA LUMPUR: The Parliamentary Select Committee (PSC) on Security is prepared to summon the Defence Ministry and the Malaysian Defence Intelligence Organisation (MDIO) to explain measures to prevent further incidents of armed forces officers colluding with syndicates. PSC chairman and Ranau MP Datuk Jonathan Yasin said under current rules, the committee cannot summon agencies to testify on cases still being investigated by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) or police. "However, we can call them to discuss strategies and direction to ensure such cases do not recur in the future," he told Berita Harian yesterday. Jonathan said he would consult committee members on the proposal to summon Mindef and the MDIO director-general before making a decision. Earlier, Tanah Merah member of parliament Datuk Seri Ikmal Hisham Abdul Aziz, a PSC member and former deputy defence minister, suggested summoning military officials, particularly the MDIO director-general, to provide details on how the intelligence leak involving senior armed forces officers occurred. Ikmal described the involvement of senior officers in leaking information to smugglers as alarming, saying it raised questions on whether other compromises had taken place. "This is not just about patrol information in the south but also potentially sensitive details on issues like the South China Sea and military readiness. "My concern is greater because those detained are senior officers of the MDIO, a key branch of the armed forces responsible for handling intelligence, both physically and digitally," he said. One of the suspects, Ikmal said, was related to a former army chief. He also asked for clarity on what counter-intelligence measures ministry and MDIO had taken to address the breaches once exposed. Earlier reports said the MACC remanded 10 people, including senior military officers, as well as two journalists. The suspects were detained in "Op Sohor" by the MACC's Intelligence Division and its Anti-Corruption Tactical Squad (ACTS) in the Klang Valley after a 12-month probe. Preliminary investigations revealed the officers leaked operational military information to smugglers bringing in contraband, including drugs and cigarettes, worth about RM5 million a month. They are believed to have received between RM30,000 and RM50,000 in bribes for each smuggling trip, amassing more than RM3 million over the past five years.
