Raleigh mom, 4 young children die in fiery crash on I-95 in Georgia during trip to see husband
RALEIGH, N.C. (WSAV/WNCN) — A 27-year-old North Carolina mother and her four young children were killed Sunday morning in a Georgia crash after leaving Raleigh, according to the Georgia State Patrol.
The two-car crash happened around 6 a.m. along Interstate 95 near exit 67 in McIntosh County, about 35 miles south of Savannah, Georgia.
The crash happened in the southbound lanes when the SUV containing the mother and children collided with a car also headed south, officials said.
The SUV with the family inside burst into flames following the crash, officials said.
According to Georgia State Troopers, 27-year-old Reagan Dougan and her four children, ages 9, 4, 2, and 3 months, died.
Sunday afternoon, family members told CBS 17 that the Dougans are North Carolina residents.
Dougan rented a new-style Jeep Grand Cherokee in Raleigh and was driving to Florida to meet her husband, who has been notified, Georgia officials said.
Reagan Dougan's family said she was taking the children to meet up with her husband, who was visiting friends in Florida.
The passenger in the other vehicle, a white Infiniti sedan, was taken to the hospital. There was no word about that person's condition.
Video from the scene showed a burned car crashed beside a median guardrail under an overpass. Images indicated a white car stopped in the center lane nearby with heavy rear damage.
The wreck happened while the Jeep SUV was traveling south in the left lane, said Georgia State Trooper Christopher Ashdown.
A witness in a car that was passed by the SUV said it was ' traveling at a high rate of speed,' Ashdown said.
The SUV then crashed into the rear of the sedan with the SUV bursting into flames following the crash, he said.
'Seeing how hard the impact was obviously caused the SUV to ignite,' Ashdown said.
The sedan hit a center guardrail and then stopped in a travel lane, he said.
The southbound lanes of I-95 were closed for several hours.

Parents charged with manslaughter after their 7-year-old son fatally struck by car in North Carolina
The parents of a 7-year-old boy who was fatally struck by a car while trying to cross a street in North Carolina have been charged with manslaughter and remain in jail on $1.5 million bond, police said. The child was hit by a Jeep Cherokee on May 27 in Gastonia, located west of Charlotte, police said. He was attempting to cross the street outside of a crosswalk with a 10-year-old boy when the crash occurred, according to the Gastonia Police Department. He suffered life-threatening injuries and died at a hospital. His parents -- Jessica Ivey, 30, and Samuele Jenkins, 31 -- were charged two days after the deadly collision with felony involuntary manslaughter, felony child neglect and misdemeanor child neglect, police said. The parents said the older child was the boy's brother, ABC Charlotte affiliate WSOC reported. The Gastonia Police Department said in a press release that its investigation "revealed that the children involved were unsupervised at the time the boy stepped into traffic." "In such cases, adults must be held accountable for their responsibilities to ensure a safe environment for their children," the department added. A judge set the parents' bond at $1.5 million during a court appearance on Friday. They remain in custody in the Gaston County Jail, online jail records show. They have not yet entered a plea to the charges. ABC News has reached out to Ivey's public defender for comment and did not immediately receive a response. Jenkins' attorney said he was appointed to the case on Wednesday and had not received any documents yet. The 76-year-old female driver of the Jeep has not been charged, police said. "At this time, there is no evidence of speeding or wrongdoing on the part of the driver, therefore no charges have been filed," the Gastonia Police Department said. "The driver continues to be cooperative and the incident remains under active investigation by the Gastonia Police Department's Traffic Division." Police did not release the name of the boy who was fatally struck, though his parents said his first name was Legend in an interview with WSOC prior to their arrest. Ivey told the station that her two sons were walking the two blocks home from a shopping center for the first time on their own when the accident occurred, WSOC reported. "It was just devastating. I'm still in shock," she told WSOC. "It's hard. I haven't stopped crying. My husband hasn't stopped crying," she told the station. Ivey added that she wanted "justice for my baby" against the driver, whose name has not been publicly released. "I just don't feel like she should still be able to drive," Ivey told WSOC. Fla. man violently hit by SUV, shot at by driver in wild road rage incident: cops
A shooting and crash in Florida that resulted in three people being charged was a result of road rage, police say. Around 3:20 p.m. on Monday, the driver of a Jeep Compass was waiting to turn left out of a parking lot when the driver of a Buick sedan turned left into the lot, in front of the Jeep driver. The Buick driver, Anthony Williams, parked and the Jeep driver, Raesean Poole, backed up to confront Williams about not using a turn signal, Bradenton police said on Facebook. Williams and a teenage passenger exited the Buick before Poole claims that Williams showed him a gun during the confrontation. Video captured at the scene shows Poole trying to drive away several times, but stops and continues arguing with Williams. During what police call the 'final confrontation,' Poole accelerated the Jeep toward Williams, hitting a stop sign, tree and striking Williams in the leg. The teenaged Buick passenger, 16-year-old Manuel Villatoro, then 'retrieved a gun and fired into Poole's Jeep,' police said. The three involved were detained by police shortly afterward. The Jeep driver, 33-year-old Poole, has been charged with aggravated battery with a motor vehicle.
