‘Jilted lover' hurls petrol bomb at minor girl's house
Kochi: A jilted lover attempted to kill a 17-year-old girl by hurling a petrol bomb at her house in Kuzhalmannam police station limits in Palakkad. Luckily, no one was injured as the bomb did not explode. Police arrested Akhil (24) and his friend Rahul (19) over the incident. According to Kuzhalmannam police, the incident took place in the early hours of Aug 14. Akhil and the girl were allegedly in a relationship for three years, and he spent money on buying things for her. Of late, she started avoiding him and Akhil suspected she was in love with another person. Angry over her rejection, Akhil decided to attack the girl, police said. "Akhil searched on social media for methods of attack he could resort to and learned to make a petrol bomb from a YouTube video. He bought petrol and three high-grade explosives, which he filled in a glass bottle. He also placed a wick on the bottle's cap. Before leaving for the girl's house, Akhil and Rahul consumed alcohol heavily. They left on a two-wheeler carrying the bottle filled with petrol and explosives," said a police officer. "Outside the girl's house, Akhil lit the bomb and hurled it into the compound. It fell near the room where the girl was sleeping, but it did not explode. As it was drizzling, the wick and explosives got wet. Had it exploded, the girl and the family members would have been injured. But the glass window of the room was broken," the officer added. Akhil and his friend were booked on charges of attempted murder and under the Explosives Act. Police had earlier arrested Akhil in a narcotic substance possession case. Man Linked To Goldy Brar Arrested In Badshah's Chandigarh Club Blast Case
Last Updated: According to police, Deepak was in constant contact with gangster Goldy Brar, who had claimed responsibility for the blasts. The Delhi Police Special Cell has arrested Deepak, a resident of Faridkot, Punjab, in connection with the November 2024 crude bomb attack outside clubs in Chandigarh, including one owned by singer and rapper Badshah. Police said Deepak was in constant contact with gangster Goldy Brar, who had claimed responsibility for the blasts. The arrest was made in Delhi. The explosions occurred on November 26 last year outside Seville Bar and Lounge, owned by Badshah, and De Orra Club, owned by local businessmen. CCTV footage showed a man throwing crude bombs before fleeing on a motorcycle with an accomplice. The blasts shattered glass windows but caused no injuries. The site is located barely 100 metres from the Sector 26 police station, raising serious security concerns. Sector 26 police registered an FIR under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the Explosives Act, and investigators have been reviewing CCTV footage from the area to track all suspects. Days after the attack, two other accused, identified as Vinay and Ajit Sehrawat, were arrested following an encounter in Haryana's Hisar district during a joint operation by the Chandigarh Police and the Haryana Special Task Force (STF). Both men sustained leg injuries in the exchange of fire and were taken to the hospital for treatment. Hours after the blasts, Goldy Brar, linked to the Lawrence Bishnoi gang, allegedly claimed responsibility in a social media post. Police say they are investigating the extent of his role in directing the attack. view comments First Published: News india Man Linked To Goldy Brar Arrested In Badshah's Chandigarh Club Blast Case Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Tamil Nadu: Explosion At Illegal Firecracker Unit In Virudhunagar Kills Three
Three people were killed and one seriously injured when an explosion ripped through a house where firecrackers were being made near Vembakottai in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar district on Saturday. According to police, a group of workers was engaged in manufacturing firecrackers inside a house in the Vijayakarishalkulam area when explosives suddenly detonated. The blast triggered a massive fire, which spread rapidly, causing the partially prepared crackers to explode in quick succession. The impact of the explosion left parts of the building in ruins. Three people died on the spot, while another sustained severe burn injuries. The injured person was rescued by the police and rushed to the Sivakasi Government Hospital for treatment. This latest accident has once again highlighted the recurring safety concerns in the region's fireworks production units. Virudhunagar district, particularly the Sivakasi–Sattur belt, is known as the country's firecracker manufacturing hub, but it has been plagued by frequent accidents caused by unsafe storage of explosives, overstocking, or manufacturing activities being carried out in unauthorised locations such as residential buildings. Saturday's incident is the fourth fatal firecracker-related explosion in the district in the past month alone. Collectively, these blasts have claimed 16 lives, raising alarm among safety officials and prompting demands for stricter enforcement of rules under the Explosives Act. In July, three separate blasts were reported in different parts of Virudhunagar district, each linked to either licensed fireworks factories flouting safety norms or illegal units operating without proper authorisation. The accidents claimed the lives of workers, many of them daily wage labourers, and left several others injured. Senior police officials have launched an investigation into the latest explosion. Preliminary inquiries suggest that explosives were being handled without adequate precautionary measures. Officials from the Revenue and Fire Safety Departments have also been roped in to assess the damage and determine the cause of the blast. Authorities have once again urged fireworks unit owners to strictly follow safety protocols and warned that strict action would be taken against violators.
