‘Jilted lover' hurls petrol bomb at minor girl's house
Luckily, no one was injured as the bomb did not explode. Police arrested Akhil (24) and his friend Rahul (19) over the incident.
According to Kuzhalmannam police, the incident took place in the early hours of Aug 14. Akhil and the girl were allegedly in a relationship for three years, and he spent money on buying things for her. Of late, she started avoiding him and Akhil suspected she was in love with another person. Angry over her rejection, Akhil decided to attack the girl, police said.
"Akhil searched on social media for methods of attack he could resort to and learned to make a petrol bomb from a YouTube video.
He bought petrol and three high-grade explosives, which he filled in a glass bottle. He also placed a wick on the bottle's cap. Before leaving for the girl's house, Akhil and Rahul consumed alcohol heavily. They left on a two-wheeler carrying the bottle filled with petrol and explosives," said a police officer.
"Outside the girl's house, Akhil lit the bomb and hurled it into the compound. It fell near the room where the girl was sleeping, but it did not explode. As it was drizzling, the wick and explosives got wet. Had it exploded, the girl and the family members would have been injured. But the glass window of the room was broken," the officer added.
Akhil and his friend were booked on charges of attempted murder and under the Explosives Act. Police had earlier arrested Akhil in a narcotic substance possession case.

Soured relationship led to girl's murder
Chitradurga: The probe into the murder of a college student near Chitradurga has revealed a soured relationship between her and the accused. The victim, Varshita, 19, was murdered on Aug 18 at Gonur Bridge on the outskirts of Chitradurga, and the body was discovered the following day. Police arrested Chetan, who has confessed to the crime. Varshita, a BA second-year student at Govt Women's College here, was residing at a govt-run hostel. But Chetan refused, saying that Varshita is linked to another man. "On Aug 18, Chetan brought Varshita to the bridge and murdered her," the SP explained. Trader's gang threat claim debunked; police to cancel FIR
Ludhiana: Police have initiated proceedings to cancel the FIR registered for an alleged murder attempt against Lakhbir Singh alias Lakhu Baba of Lambra (Jalandhar), notorious criminal Rishav Benipal alias Nanu of Ludhiana, and others. The FIR was lodged on a complaint from shoe trader Gurvinder Singh Prinkle. The move came after police verified that the man who visited Prinkle's shop was a customer, not a gangster. Police said an FIR may be lodged against Prinkle for filing a false complaint. However, he will first be interrogated to determine his intent in alleging an attack attempt. On Aug 10, Prinkle lodged a complaint with Division 7 police, claiming that Lakhbir Singh alias Lakhu Baba entered his shop armed with a pistol intending to kill him. He said since he was not present at the time, Lakhu made a video call to his accomplices and said he would have shot Prinkle had he been there. Prinkle also submitted CCTV footage of a man he claimed was Lakhu Baba. Police registered an FIR against Lakhbir Singh, gangster Rishav Benipal, and their aides — Inderjit Singh, Harpreet Singh, Gaganpreet Singh, Rajinderpal Singh, Sukhwinderpal Singh, and Shubham Mota — under BNS sections 55 (abetment to offence) with 101 (attempt to murder), 61(2) (criminal conspiracy), and 351(2) (criminal intimidation), along with Sections 25, 54, and 59 of Arms Act. A report by TOI revealed that the person captured in the CCTV footage was actually Sachin, a resident of Bhattian Colony. Man booked for threatening doc over wife's IVF treatment
Ludhiana: A man has been booked for abusing and threatening a doctor for some complications that arose during his wife's treatment. The accused, a resident of Moga, reportedly made several calls from international numbers to intimidate the doctor, a woman. He has been identified as Jagdev Singh. The complainant, an embryologist, told police that Jagdev's wife got her IVF treatment done under her supervision. However, she started experiencing some complications later, for which Jagdev held her responsible. He, therefore, started threatening her through various ways and means. Charges under BNS sections 79 (words, gestures, intended to outrage the modesty of a woman), 351 (3) (criminal intimidation) and Section 67 of the Information Technology (IT) Act, have been pressed against the accused, a resident of Nihal Singh Wala in Moga district. The SHO of Sarabha Nagar police station, Madhu Bala, said an FIR has been registered and a search is on for the accused.
