Soured relationship led to girl's murder
The victim, Varshita, 19, was murdered on Aug 18 at Gonur Bridge on the outskirts of Chitradurga, and the body was discovered the following day.
Police arrested Chetan, who has confessed to the crime.
Varshita, a BA second-year student at Govt Women's College here, was residing at a govt-run hostel.
According to SP Ranjit Kumar Bandaru, Varshita and Chetan met on Instagram. Chetan is into recruiting people to different positions for a private company. As the Instagram friends got closer, Chetan assured Varshita a job, after which they got into a relationship.
The SP further stated that on Aug 14, Varshita went to Siddavanahalli in Hiriyur taluk, where her aunt resides. Her aunt called Chetan and insisted that he marry Varshita as she was pregnant. But Chetan refused, saying that Varshita is linked to another man. "On Aug 18, Chetan brought Varshita to the bridge and murdered her," the SP explained.
The officer has warned those spreading misinformation regarding the murder, especially online.

Tenant stabs landlady to death in Chhatarpur, daughter critical
Bhopal: A tenant allegedly murdered his 35-year-old landlady with a knife and critically injured her daughter in Chhatarpur district on Thursday. The incident was reported from Vishwanath Colony. Police said the suspect, Mahesh Rai, fled the spot after the attack and is currently absconding. The incident occurred around 12:30 pm when the accused entered the house of Sharman Pathak and attacked her with a knife. When her daughter, Priyanka Pathak, tried to intervene, she was also stabbed. Sharman died on the spot, while Priyanka, who sustained serious injuries, was taken to the district hospital, where her condition is critical. Preliminary investigation revealed that Mahesh Rai, who had been living as a tenant in the house for about a year, was under financial stress. His daughter suffers from a kidney ailment, and he had taken a loan from Sanata Company for her treatment. Sharman Pathak was a witness in the loan documents and had been pressuring him to repay the company's dues. Police suspect this dispute triggered the attack. The victim is survived by two sons. Execution of RRC: HC summons Bhopal collector in contempt case
Bhopal/Jabalpur: The MP high court has summoned Bhopal collector Kaushlendra Vikram Singh on August 25 in connection with a contempt petition filed over non-compliance of the court order to execute the revenue recovery certificate (RRC)for recovery of Rs 70 lakh from a builder issued by Real Estate Regulatory Authority (RERA). Bhanu Pratap Singh from Gwalior in his contempt petition said that he had filed a petition in RERA for recovery from a Bhopal-based builder. RERA decided the case in his favour and issued a RRC of Rs 70 lakh. The RRC was to be executed through collector Bhopal but he didn't execute the RRC. Then, he moved the MP high court seeking direction to collector Bhopal to execute the RRC. The high court disposed of his petition with a direction to collector Bhopal to execute the RRC for recovery of the amount from the builder. However, the RRC has not been executed yet, thus bringing him back to court with a contempt petition. Following initial hearing, the bench of Justice Vishal Mishra directed the Bhopal collector to appear in the court in person to explain the reason for his non-compliance of the court order.
