Pakistan continues ranting about Kashmir on its Independence Day
He reiterated Islamabad's position on Kashmir, calling the cause "just" and Pakistan's support for their struggle "unshakable until justice prevails".
In a statement issued, Ishaq Dar said, 'On the joyous occasion of Independence Day, I extend my warmest greetings to the people of Pakistan and our compatriots worldwide. Today, we honour the visionary leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah and the countless sacrifices of the Pakistan Movement's workers, whose unwavering resolve secured our homeland.'
He added, 'Guided by unity, faith, and discipline, Pakistan stands tall as a resilient nation of over 250 million people, proud of our shared heritage and collective strength. Over the past 78 years, Pakistan has made remarkable strides—from a robust agricultural base to thriving IT exports, from hosting global events to transformative infrastructure projects. Our nation has advanced dynamically in science, technology, and economic development. These achievements reflect our commitment to a brighter future and our meaningful contributions to global peace.'
Highlighting Pakistan's position on regional security, Dar referred to what he called the triumph of "Marka-e-Haq", in which, he claimed, Pakistan demonstrated strength on both military and diplomatic fronts.
'Our principled and robust response to India's unlawful actions secured a moral and political victory, reaffirming our unwavering commitment to protect our sovereignty. Through military preparedness, diplomatic finesse, and national unity, we have demonstrated our resolve to safeguard our interests while upholding global peace.'
Reasserting Islamabad's long-standing stance on Kashmir, Dar added, 'The Kashmir cause remains just, the rights of the Kashmiri people inalienable, and Pakistan's support for their struggle unshakable until justice prevails. As we commemorate this day, let us renew our dedication to a stronger, more secure, and prosperous Pakistan.'
He further emphasised that freedom must be earned and preserved through responsibility, discipline, and unity.
'Freedom is not merely inherited—it is earned and preserved. Our greatest strength lies in the unity that forged our nation and in our collective resolve to uphold democracy, peace, and justice. Pakistan is not just a land; it is an enduring idea, a sacred promise, and a shared duty.'
Earlier in the day, despite heightened tensions following the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir -- carried out by Pakistan-backed terrorists and resulting in the deaths of 26 tourists -- US Secretary of State Marco Rubio extended greetings to Islamabad, stating that Washington 'deeply appreciates Pakistan's engagement on counterterrorism and trade'.
The Pahalgam attack was widely condemned across the world. Pakistan Army Chief Field Marshal Asim Munir faced protests during his US visit in May. However, with trade interests rising -- particularly after Islamabad reportedly offered access to Balochistan -- the Trump administration has extended a renewed diplomatic gesture toward Pakistan.

Kakinada: Deputy Chief Minister Pawan Kalyan on Thursday called upon citizens to stand united to thwart both external and internal forces seeking to destabilise the nation, thereby safeguarding democracy and national integrity. Participating as chief guest at the 79th Independence Day celebrations at the Police Parade Ground here, the Deputy CM — who holds the panchayat raj, rural development, rural water supply, environment, forests, and science and technology portfolios — hoisted the national flag and received the guard of honour from the police and NCC contingents. In his address, Pawan said India's freedom was won through immense sacrifices, and that Independence Day should be celebrated not as a ritual, but with a sense of responsibility to protect the nation. Over the next five years, the scheme will provide three free cylinders annually, costing Rs 13,427 crore. Pawan announced a sharp hike in funds for national festival celebrations in panchayats — from Rs 100 to Rs 10,000 for minor panchayats and from Rs 250 to Rs 25,000 for major panchayats — enhancing the role and dignity of sarpanches. He lauded the state's achievement of holding village assemblies simultaneously in all 13,326 panchayats, advancing the goal of 'village self-rule.' To boost forest cover from 30 per cent to 37 per cent, one crore saplings have been planted and are being tracked through QR codes. He also cited the resolution of elephant attack issues by deploying 'kunki' elephants from Karnataka, and the launch of 61 tourism projects in Araku with a budget of Rs 1,022 crore. On his Pithapuram constituency, he said Rs 308 crore had already been spent on development works to transform it into a model constituency, with more projects planned over the next four years. The event featured police and departmental floats, cultural performances by school students, and the presentation of awards to officials, staff, and volunteers. Pawan also laid the foundation stone for the Rs 6-crore Red Cross Cancer Block at Kakinada Government General Hospital, funded through CSR contributions. The celebrations were attended by Deputy CM's wife Anna Lezhneva, senior officials, legislators, and public representatives from across the district.

Vijayawada: Chief secretary K Vijayanand on Friday said that the state government had set a target to make the state free from single-use plastic by World Environment Day, June 5, 2026. As a first step, the ban has been enforced in the state Secretariat from Friday, and the initiative will be extended in phases to all municipal corporations, towns, and villages. Speaking as the chief guest at the 79th Independence Day celebrations held at the Secretariat, Vijayanand said plastic pollution is a grave threat to the environment and human survival. He stressed the need for collective responsibility to protect natural resources for future generations. Paying tributes to the Father of the Nation Mahatma Gandhi, the architect of the Constitution Dr. B.R. Ambedkar, the designer of the national flag Pingali Venkaiah, revolutionary leader Alluri Sitarama Raju, and all other freedom fighters, the Chief Secretary said Independence Day is an occasion to recall the sacrifices of great leaders who fought for the country's freedom. Highlighting the government's welfare agenda, he said both the Centre and the state are implementing several development and social security schemes aimed at uplifting the poor. He urged officials and employees to work with dedication to ensure that every eligible beneficiary, even in the remotest village, receives the benefits. Vijayanand also spoke about the Swarna Andhra P-4 Foundation launched to eradicate poverty and reduce economic inequalities, and called for committed efforts to make the programme a success. KDCC Bank pays tributes to freedom fighters
Vijayawada: TheKrishna District Cooperative Central Bank (KDCC Bank) celebrated the 79th Independence Day with an event at its Vijayawada Regional Office. The ceremony began with former Minister and KDCC Bank chairman, Nettem Raghuram, paying tribute to national leaders by garlanding their portraits. In his address, Raghuram emphasised the significance of Independence Day, stating, 'This day is the sacred fruit of the great souls who gave their youth, their blood, and their lives for freedom. Freedom lives in every farmer's field, in every worker's sweat, and in every student's dream,' he said. He added that the current generation's goal should be to build a nation free of corruption and backwardness, and to become a technologically strong role model for the world. The Chairman also highlighted the bank's services and progress, particularly its focus on the farming community. The bank, with its 57 branches and 425 Primary Agricultural Cooperative Societies, is expanding its services under the new government. Chairman Raghuram concluded by stating that the government, led by Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, is working tirelessly for the welfare of farmers and that the bank will continue to support them. The event was attended by NABARD DGM Milin Sou Laskar, General Manager Ranga Babu, and other dignitaries.
