Michigan football gets a commitment from five-star QB Brady Smigiel
Michigan football gets a commitment from five-star QB Brady Smigiel
Michigan football had its quarterback for 2026, but then things took a shocking turn as the Wolverines were closing out 2025.
The maize and blue flipped Bryce Underwood from LSU and that led to 2026 quarterback commit Brady Hart reclassifying to 2025 and flipping to Texas A&M. Since then, the Wolverines have been looking for their next signal caller, not wanting to be in the same situation they were after getting J.J. McCarthy, when they didn't have a viable quarterback to follow him.
While there were a few QBs on the radar -- Ryder Lyons and Nathan Bernhard come to mind -- it turns out that Newbury Park (Calif.) five-star QB Brady Smigiel was the one who resonated the most. The former Florida State commit pledged to be a Seminole just before Hart verbally committed to the Wolverines, but he since backed off his commitment. He looked Washington-bound until the Huskies got a commitment from three-star Derek Zammit.
And now Smigiel, who visited Ann Arbor for the spring game, is now in the fold after pledging to the maize and blue.
Smigiel is rated a five-star according to Rivals which has him as the No. 23 player in the country, regardless of position. He's otherwise a four-star everywhere else, coming in at No. 80 according to the 247Sports Composite.
Here is the scouting report from 247Sports:
Smigiel is a big, strong armed pocket passer who has put up huge numbers since his freshman season. At the recent Under Armour Next Camp in SoCal, he had a very strong showing, with a tightened release and his usual trademark accuracy to all three levels of the field. He's very accurate down the field, knows how to change speeds and throws with really nice touch but can put plenty of heat on his throws when he needs to. He's a tough kid, will stand in and take a shot and not flinch. Great natural leader, locker room guy and teammate. Very high football lQ, dad is his coach so he has been around the game and has a good natural feel for playing the position. Has decent pocket mobility, not a great runner but can buy time and is good making throws outside the pocket. Projects as a high major Power 4 prospect with Sunday potential.
Smigiel was primarily recruited by offensive coordinator Chip Lindsey. He is the fourth pledge in 2026, joining wide receiver Jaylen Pile, cornerback Brody Jennings, and offensive lineman Bear McWhorter. He chose Michigan football over South Carolina, UCLA, and Washington, but also had offers from Auburn, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Miami, Notre Dame, Nebraska, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Penn State, Utah, and others.
With Smigiel in the fold, along with Underwood being on the team, the Wolverines should be able to more aptly recruit offensive talent, with the knowledge of who will be under center for the foreseeable in Ann Arbor.

LSU baseball's Steven Milam talks West Virginia win: 'I love the big moment'
LSU baseball's Steven Milam talks West Virginia win: 'I love the big moment' Steven Milam put LSU baseball on his back during the Baton Rouge Super Regional against West Virginia. Saturday and Sunday against the Mountaineers, the sophomore infielder made his plate appearances count. With a mix of power and patience at the plate, Milam finished the series with eight RBI and credits "getting back to the basics" for his success. "I love the big moment," Milam said. "I didn't play or help my team as much as I wanted to during the year and I had to step up to take pressure off the other guys. I feel like I've been able to do that." Milam put the Tigers up big with a grand slam in Saturday's fifth inning then stroked two doubles on Sunday. He finished with two walks in each game, bringing his on-base percentage to .395 for the year. "He went out there and competed his tail off and really did a good job," LSU first baseman Jared Jones said. "He was just himself this weekend and he did a great job for us and go the momentum in our dugout." The Tigers only hope Milam's success continues now that they claimed a berth in the College World Series and learned they will open against No. 3 seed Arkansas. "Our whole team is running great at bats one through nine," Milam said. "You can punch in 15 different guys, and we're going to beat you," Milam said. This wasn't Milam's first time appearing in a big moment. In the 2024 SEC Tournament, Milam delivered a big home run that was instrumental in LSU securing an NCAA Tournament appearance. "This is why you come to LSU."

No. 6 seed LSU (48-15) clinched the program's 20th berth in the College World Series, where the Tigers will try to win their eighth national championship — all since 1991, the most recent in 2023. Anthony Eyanson (11-2) gave up four runs on five hits with three walks and seven strikeouts in five innings. Chris Stanfield, Curiel and Ethan Frey each drew a two-out walk to load the bases before Milam cleared the bases with a double off starter Jack Kartsonas (6-4) to spark a five-run second that made it 6-0. After Jace Rinehart hit a two-out solo shot and pinch-hitter Chase Swain drew a walk, Chase Shores came on a struck out Brodie Kresser swinging to end the eighth and the pitched a 1-2-3 ninth. Sam White hit a leadoff homer and Ben Lumsden added a two-run shot in the fourth before White added an RBI single in the fifth to cut the deficit to 6-4. Stanfield hit a two-RBI single to spark a six-run seventh, capped when Brown's two-run home run gave LSU an eight-run lead. Milam and Josh Pearson each hit a grand slam as LSU beat the Mountaineers 16-9 in Game 1 on Saturday. West Virginia (44-16) set the program's single-season record for wins under first-year coach Steve Sabins. The Mountaineers advanced to their first-ever super regional last season. The game had originally been scheduled for 5:06 p.m. local time but was delayed approximately three hours due to inclement weather in the area.

A.J. Brown says he's hungry for more after seeing his banner get displayed at The Linc
A.J. Brown says he's hungry for more after seeing his banner get displayed at The Linc Philadelphia All-Pro WR A.J. Brown expresses his hunger for more after the Eagles displayed his banner on the side of Lincoln Financial Field. A.J. Brown didn't rest on his laurels after winning Super Bowl 59. He chose to get right back into the gym and take his skills to another level as the Birds look to repeat as Champions. Brown recently traveled to the most "dangerous gym in America" to test his mind, body, and spirit. Brown is taking things to another level, and that means taking second-year wide receiver Ainias Smith under his wing. Recently, Brown and Smith ran the steps at Lincoln Financial Field, followed by Brown giving the versatile pass catcher from Texas A&M advice on "visualizing your goals' and "manifesting your success." Brown's words are powerful and can resonate with anyone regardless of what phase of life you're currently embarking on. While talking to Smith, Brown told the second-year wide receiver that seeing himself up on a fresh, new banner outside the stadium has left him hungry for more. Brown is having a great off-season, and in Pro Football Focus's ranking of the top 32 NFL wide receivers, landed the top spot, with DeVonta Smith in the top 20. Despite missing three games due to injury, A.J. Brown led the team with 1,079 receiving yards. He also ranked 1st in receiving average (16.1) (min. 60 catches) and 3rd in receiving yards per game (83.0) (min. 13 games), behind Ja'Marr Chase (100.5) and Justin Jefferson (90.2). Smith posted a career-high 8 TDs in the regular season and hauled in a 46-yard TD in Super Bowl LIX. During the run to the Super Bowl, he became the franchise's all-time leader in postseason receiving yards (595).
