Travel chaos at St Louis Airport as lines stretch out to freeway
Grim photos showed hundreds of people waiting outside its terminal two, with the line stretching dangerously close to a multi-lane road that takes drivers to and from the travel hub. A TikTok user called ray_elijahsmom shared a shocking footage showing the miserable-looking line of tourists stretching far outside the building in the humid Missouri summer heat.
Those stuck outside had little access to food or water, further heightening the discomfort endured Many had to wait in line for three hours and ended up missing their flights despite technically arriving at the airport early.
Airport spokesman Roger Lotz told 5 On Your Side that a Seventh Day Adventist conference in the city attended by 50,000 people had ended the day before. He said that had caused a sudden and unexpected influx of people early Sunday all wanting to get home from the conference before returning to work on Monday.
The airport explained that many of the conference attendees had wanted to check bags and that few were members of expedited security programs like TSA-Pre-Check or CLEAR, further slowing operations down.
But that was little comfort to scores of travelers who missed flights. Southwest marked some of those stuck in the lines as 'no shows.' That means anyone missing flights can only get vouchers to put towards another one instead of a refund.
Fox2 reported that one unidentified passenger had been left out of pocket to the tune of $12,000, but didn't offer any more information as to how they incurred the eye-watering loss. Monica Villarreal was in St Louis from Houston for a jewelry convention and says it took her more than two hours to reach the TSA checkpoint.
'It's the longest I've ever waited. And I'm from Houston.', she said, referring to the Texas city's famously busy airports. Another flyer told 5 On Your Side that they'd been able to cancel flights and get refunds but warned 'it's going to get ugly.' The airport eventually processed the worst of the lines by early afternoon with normal operations resuming Monday morning.

Justin Thomas 'rested and refreshed' for start of playoffs
August 6 - Justin Thomas thinks he has had a nice season. He knows how to erase all doubts. "I definitely know three ways I could make it a lot happier and feel a lot better about it," he said Wednesday in Memphis as he prepares for the first of three FedEx Cup Playoff events this week. Thomas arrived at TPC Southwind for the FedEx St. Jude Championship ranked No. 6 in the FedEx Cup standings and No. 4 in the world rankings. "I'm definitely not going to make any judgments or assess anything for the time being with three big events left and three tournaments I feel like I could have a good chance to go out and try to win and put myself in contention," he said. "That's the goal, just to try to do that each week. I'm teeing it up these next three, and hopefully we can try to get a couple of them and ultimately the FedEx Cup. "It's hard to say right now but ask me again in three weeks hopefully." Thomas, 32, won his 16th career PGA Tour title at the RBC Heritage in April and also has runner-up finishes this year at The American Express in January, the Valspar Championship in March and the Truist Championship in May. Planes, trains and more missteps from Labour
Polly Toynbee rightly advocates greener rail travel over the greater environmental damage caused by airliners (Pushing airport expansion while rail travel languishes – so much for Labour's green agenda, 5 August). Alas, the same government that has authorised a massive expansion of Heathrow airport has also just pulled the plug on completing the electrification of the Midland Main Line from London to Nottingham, Derby and Sheffield. By my reckoning, this is the third time the scheme has been abandoned partway through. It will ensure that four diesel trains an hour will be plying the route for the foreseeable future, adding to air quality issues and consuming more fossil fuels. The overhead wiring for the electric trains currently ends in the middle of nowhere a few miles south of Leicester. New trains being built for the route are bi-mode – that is, equally capable of operating on diesel or electric power. It's all a huge waste – and more proof that, when it comes to investing in the north, the money always runs WhitehouseSilkstone Common, South Yorkshire Polly Toynbee is correct to assert the advantages of rail versus flying, especially for domestic journeys. She does not mention the big drawback of the current UK rail system – unreliability. I live in Aberdeenshire and have family in Birmingham and London. I have given up on using the train to visit family because on many occasions my train has not reached its destination because of cancellations of connections or driver shortages. I now reluctantly fly to Birmingham and London from Aberdeen. Now we have an integrated rail network, why not adapt the Interrail idea of allowing the cost of the journey to and from the home station to St Pancras to be covered by the standard Eurostar fare?
