England batter Phil Salt made history on Saturday by becoming the first men's player to score 1,000 runs in The Hundred competition. The Manchester Originals opener achieved this milestone during a match against defending champions Oval Invincibles.
In the match, he scored a solid 41 off 32 balls, hitting one four and three sixes at a strike rate of 128.12. His partnership with New Zealand all-rounder Mark Chapman, who scored a brisk 28 off 19 balls with three fours and a six, and a cameo from Scott Currie, who made 21 off nine balls with four boundaries, helped Manchester reach 128 runs in their allotted 100 balls.
Spinner Rashid Khan (3/19) was the standout bowler for the Invincibles. Jason Behrendorff, Sam Curran, and Saqib Mahmood each took two wickets. Will Jacks (61 off 26 balls, with ten fours and two sixes) and Tawanda Muyeye (59* off 28 balls, with ten fours and a six) guided the home side to victory with nine wickets and 43 balls to spare.
Salt has amassed 1,036 runs in 37 matches at an average of 28.77, with a strike rate exceeding 156.49, including seven fifties and a top score of 86. Following him is English batter James Vince with 986 runs in 37 matches and eight fifties, and Ben Duckett in third place with 891 runs in 31 matches and five fifties.
Recently, on Friday, English all-rounder Nat-Sciver Brunt became the first player to score 1,000 runs in the women's The Hundred competition. Playing for Trent Rockets, she scored 64 runs off 40 balls, though her side fell 11 runs short of Birmingham Phoenix's target of 149 runs.

Sourav Ganguly Backs Abhimanyu Easwaran To Play For India: 'He Will Get His Chance..'

Last Updated: Sourav Ganguly has supported Abhimanyu Easwaran for India's No. 3 spot, as debates rage over his exclusion. Former India captain Sourav Ganguly has said that while the likes of Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul all scored runs in the recent Test series against England, the No. 3 slot looked a bit fragile, backing Abhimanyu Easwaran to get a chance soon in the Indian team, even as debates increase over his continued exclusion. Easwaran was part of India's recent overseas tours to Australia and England but remained on the sidelines. In the 2025 Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, while the opening spots were settled, the No. 3 position remained uncertain amidst the batting order reshuffle after the retirements of Rohit Sharma and star batter Virat Kohli. Throughout the five-match series, India alternated between Sai Sudharsan and Karun Nair in the top-order role, once again leaving Easwaran on the sidelines. 'Dad, I still haven't found a place," Easwaran reportedly said to his father during the England tour, according to reports. Ganguly has noted that Easwaran still has an opportunity to stake his claim for the No. 3 position. Sudharsan recorded 140 runs in six innings at an average of 23.33 at No. 3, including two ducks. Easwaran has made 103 first-class appearances, scoring 7841 runs at an average of 48.7 with 27 hundreds to his name. 'Gautam Gambhir, when he spoke to my son, he assured him, See you, you're doing the right kind of things, you'll get your turn, you'll get a long run. I'm not the one who will push you out after one or two matches," Easwaran's father said while speaking to Vickey Lalwani. view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Aus A games perfect prep leading into World Cup: Tahlia McGrath

Australia vice-captain Tahlia McGrath while explaining why she chose not to take part in this year's The Hundred, said that she believes playing with Australia A in Brisbane against India A this week will be an ideal preparation for the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup in India, starting September 30. While the majority of Australia's likely World Cup squad are currently plying their trade in the ECB's 100-ball tournament, McGrath is one of five CA-contracted players included in the 50-over squad to meet India A in three ODIs, alongside skipper Alyssa Healy, allrounder Tess Flintoff and quicks Darcie Brown and Kim Garth, from August 13 to 17. "It's the longest time off I've had in a number of years, so it was nice to go tools down for a bit, get a proper reset, proper refresh. It's been a really nice build-in to work on some things, to spend some time in Brissy with the girls with some camps, and then finish off the preseason with some Aus A games, which is in my eyes the perfect prep leading into a World Cup. (I'm) still at home, I get to trial a few things, and it's in the fifty-over format as well," McGrath told Australia women had a long winter layoff, as their last series was a three-game T20I tour of New Zealand in March, when McGrath stepped into the leadership role in the absence of regular captain Alyssa Healy. Now they have a daunting travel schedule across the next nine months. Australia's first World Cup match is now 50 days away, and the team is set to spend up to seven weeks in India, beginning with a three-match ODI series before the start of the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup. If Australia reaches the final, the players will have just a four-day break before the Women's Big Bash League starts on November 9. McGrath is also expected to return to India in January for the Women's Premier League, which will be followed by consecutive multi-format series - first against India at home, then against the West Indies away. Around six weeks after the end of the Caribbean trip, Australia's T20 World Cup campaign will begin in England.

'When You Join Chelsea...': Brazil Forward Joao Pedro Reveals Premier League Plans

Brazilian star Joao Pedro has joined Chelsea aiming for titles. Star Brazilian forward Joao Pedro has said that when one joins Chelsea, there is just one thing to think about, which is winning titles, as he gears up to play in the English top flight for the four-time Premier League winners with the first match scheduled against Crystal Palace on Sunday, August 17. Pedro started for the first time in the semifinal of the Club World Cup last month since arriving from Brighton and Hove Albion for a reported £60 million ($79 million), fresh from an off-season break. Pedro went on to score in the CWC final and Chelsea fans would now wait for some great performances from the forward. 'Spending a long time in one league makes it easier for a player to adapt. For example, moving from my previous club to Chelsea is easier because it's the same league, just different players," Pedro said while speaking to JioHotstar. 'When you join Chelsea, there's only one thing to think about: winning titles. In every tournament you play, you represent Chelsea and the goal is to win. That is my ambition, to win titles with Chelsea," Pedro added. New owners came in a few months after Chelsea won the Club World Cup in 2022 and the team has undergone major changes since, with Pedro just the latest face of many to arrive. Pedro comes from the state of São Paulo and started his career at Fluminense. Brighton signed Pedro from second-tier Watford for an undisclosed fee in May 2023. He joined the Seagulls on a contract until June 2028, when the post-season transfer window opened, but ended it three years earlier to move to Chelsea. Asked about the qualities he would bring to the club, Pedro said, 'I'm a very technical player. I love to score goals. When I was younger, I also played in midfield, so I could provide good passes to my teammates. Overall, I'd say I'm a quality, technical player." view comments First Published: Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's. Please keep discussions respectful and constructive.
