Palaniswami expresses doubts over double-digit economic growth
Addressing people during his Makkalai kaappom, Tamizhagathai meetpom campaign in Rajapalayam, he said the economic growth rate kept fluctuating every year.
'Last year, it was only 9%. The DMK would take credit for any achievement. But, when it fails, it would keep silent,' he said citing Chief Minister M.K. Stalin's statement on the dual digit economic growth.
The said economic growth had not translated into increased income generation among the masses and people getting employment opportunities. 'Mr. Stalin would not be bothered about these important issues. But, he would only divert the attention of the people from real issues through organised campaign,' he said.
The Stalin Government formed a high-level economic advisory council to improve the economy of the State with experts from the field. However, after four years of DMK rule, the State Government had ended up with increased borrowings of ₹4.38 lakh crore. While the DMK laimed to have signed several memoranda of understanding and brought huge investment for setting up industrial units giving job opportunities to thousands of youths, the Government did not publish a white paper on the actual investment, number of industrial units already set up and number of jobs created.
During the Assembly poll campaign, The DMK had promised to fill up 5.50 lakh vacancies in Government departments and public sector units. However, the number of vacancies in the State Government had increased to 5.75 lakh.
After four years of rule, the Chief Minister came up with 'Ungaludan Stalin' programme for providing 46 services to the common man. 'This clearly reveals that the DMK has failed to address the basic issues plaguing the common man,' the AIADMK leader said.
People of the State were eagerly awaiting the Assembly election to remove the anti-people DMK, he added.

State Education Policy: move to scrap board exam for Class XI faces criticism
The State government's move to do away with the Class XI board exams as part of its push for reforms through the freshly released State Education Policy (SEP) 2025 on School Education has invited sharp reactions, including from from the ruling DMK's alliance partners. Taking to social media, D. Ravikumar, VCK MP, expressed concern that the move would not only adversely affect higher secondary education but also bring down the quality of higher and vocational education. While Mr. Ravikumar did not put forth any argument in support of his point of view, E. Balagurusamy, former Vice-Chancellor of Anna University, said the move would affect prospects of students appearing for entrance exams such as the NEET and JEE since these followed the curriculums of both Classes XI and XII. Performance of Tamil Nadu students in these competitive exams improved after the introduction of the Class XI Board Exam, he observed. However, Prince Gajendra Babu, general secretary, State Platform for Common School System-Tamil Nadu, welcomed the cancellation of the Class XI Board Exam, stating it did not provide any breathing time for students pursuing higher secondary education. In response to criticism that schools would be encouraged to skip the Class XI syllabus altogether, he said that it was the duty of the Chief Education Officer and the District Education Officers to ensure the curriculums were followed in every class. He added that the SEP speaks of introducing continuous formative assessment for students but was silent on appointment of teachers to permanent posts. Mr. Babu was also critical of the provision to create what he called a 'multi-track schooling system' by starting a set of 'Schools of Success' (Vetri Palligal), in addition to the already existing model schools. He said it went against the spirit of equitable education introduced by the previous DMK government through the Samacheer Kalvi scheme (Uniform System of School Education) and was in violation of Article 14 of the Constitution. The proposed board exam reforms highlighted in the Policy stated that the cancellation of the Class XI boards would 'help reduce examination-related stress, encourage deeper subject understanding and ensure students are better equipped for the Class XII board examination'. The proposal seeks to 'assess conceptual understanding, application, problem-solving, and creativity' of students, touching upon higher aspects of Bloom's Taxonomy, a pedagogical tool to classify learning objectives.

Village librarians protest seeking better pay, infra upgrades
1 2 Madurai: Members of the Tamil Nadu Public Library Integrated Village Librarians Welfare Association organised a day-long fast in front of the Madurai district collectorate on Friday, demanding the upgradation of rural libraries and the implementation of the DMK's election manifesto promises related to public library infrastructure. The protest saw participation from librarians across 10 southern districts - Madurai, Theni, Dindigul, Virudhunagar, Sivaganga, Ramanathapuram, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli, Tenkasi, and Kanyakumari. V Jaya Murugan, Madurai district president of the association, said that while there are only 24 permanent village librarians across the district, more than 50 libraries continue to function with temporary employees with no service benefits. "We are demanding time-scale pay and a monthly salary of more than 30,000 in line with the work we do. Most librarians are paid a meagre sum despite years of service," he said. "More than 56 village librarians died in service across the state and their families have not received any benefits or compensation," he added. Protesters also called for at least three rural libraries in every district to be upgraded with improved facilities to attract users and support librarians. Kalaivani, 50, a librarian from Kalanai village in Alanganallur, said her library, which holds between 12,000 and 13,000 books, now sees very few visitors. "Since the establishment of libraries like the one at Simmakkal and the Kalaignar Centenary Library, our footfall dropped sharply," she said. The association urged the state govt to take immediate steps to improve infrastructure and ensure fair pay and recognition for rural librarians. Tamil Nadu Government Staffer Assaulted By Councillor Belonging To DMK Ally
A councillor of the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK), part of the ruling DMK alliance in Tamil Nadu, has been arrested for allegedly assaulting a government employee inside the Bhuvanagiri Town Panchayat office in Cuddalore district. The incident reportedly took place on Thursday when Bharathidasan entered the office and demanded that a bill be prepared for a contractor for works carried out in his ward. The staffer, who was engaged with another task, asked for time until the evening to process the bill. This led to an argument during which the councillor allegedly verbally abused and assaulted the staffer, issuing death threats and punching him in the face. Speaking to NDTV, a senior police officer said, "We have immediately arrested the VCK party functionary on the basis of the government official's complaint. There was an issue over payments. Investigation is on." CCTV visuals show the councillor, identified as Bharathidasan alias Kalimuthu, physically assaulting Radhakrishnan, a junior assistant at the panchayat office. The video shows the man initially roughing up the official and later shows both men engaging in a scuffle exchanging blows. The incident has sparked a political row, with BJP leader K. Annamalai launching a scathing attack on the DMK government. Sharing the CCTV footage on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote, "When public servants are attacked in their office, it is not just a breakdown of governance; it is a breakdown of trust in the very system meant to protect the people". He added "This isn't just an isolated act of lawlessness in the last 4 years in TN; it is a reflection of a political culture perpetrated by DMK that has normalised intimidation, violence, and absolute disregard for public institutions." BJP's Annamalai should first turn towards BJP-ruled states where his party functionaries are complicit in crimes." Radhakrishnan, who sustained facial injuries, was initially admitted to Bhuvanagiri Taluk Hospital and later shifted to Chidambaram Medical College Hospital for further treatment. Councillor Kalimuthu also claimed he was assaulted and was admitted to the same hospital before he was put behind bars. The VCK is yet to comment. Both men are currently undergoing treatment at a medical college hospital in Chidambaram. Police have retrieved CCTV footage and are continuing their investigation.
