Keira Knightley Embraces Dark Glamour in Strapless Chanel Gown for Louvre's Grand Fashion Dinner

Yahoo05-03-2025

A bevy of A-list stars and high-profile guests styled their best formal threads for Le Grand Dîner du Louvre on Tuesday in Paris. Among the stars was two-time Oscar-nominated actress and frequent Chanel collaborator Keira Knightley, who attended the event alongside her husband James Righton.
Knightley looked to the runway for inspiration for her outfit for the evening's black-tie festivities. The 'Pride & Prejudice' star wore a gown courtesy of Chanel's fall 2024 couture collection. The strapless black dress was wholly evocative of dark glamour, refining the style with touches of sparkle.

The black gown featured a fitted bodice with buttons running down the front placket and small glittering silver gems styled in a floral motif. The dress also included a slight peplum element for a defined waist, while the full skirt added movement and layers of fabric for a voluminous effect.
As for her accessories, Knightley opted for simple touches, featuring a silver choker necklace with small stars, dainty earrings and a few delicate rings. The actress' hair was styled in a bob with soft waves and a middle part.
Knightley's strapless gown made its runway debut during Paris Fashion Week in June 2024. The showcase took place prior to Matthieu Blazy's appointment as the new creative director for the French luxury fashion house, succeeding Virginie Viard.
'This collection was rooted in classic Chanel codes, with streamlined tailoring, lavish embellishment and a preponderance of black,' Joelle Diderich wrote in WWD's review of the collection.
'Evening options included a trio of frothy black ballerina dresses embellished with crystal cabochons; a trim black coat studded with 3D gold ribbons, and taffeta capes in ivory, fuchsia or black that split open to show off bare or stockinged legs,' Diderich wrote.
'There was an '80s feel to looks like a pale pink ruffled jumpsuit and the sweeping ivory bridal gown, which brought to mind Princess Diana's wedding gown designed by David and Elizabeth Emanuel.'

Helen Hunt on why she's rejecting Hollywood beauty standards

Helen Hunt on why she's rejecting Hollywood beauty standards Helen Hunt may be Hollywood royalty, but she's no beauty queen. The Oscar-winning actress, 61, opened up about the inner turmoil she's experienced in the entertainment industry due to Hollywood's intense beauty standards in a June cover story for Flow Space. Hunt, best known for her roles in the sitcom "Mad About You" and acclaimed dramas "As Good as It Gets" and "Twister," rose to fame in the 1990s when celebrity tabloids routinely scrutinized stars' physical appearance. "It felt impossible not to internalize the way you're supposed to look," Hunt reflected. "And (there was) a certain amount of misery and shame around not looking exactly that way." While Hunt rarely discusses the image pressures of being in Hollywood, she said she eventually reached a turning point. "I realized, 'This could quietly ruin your whole life.' I made a decision: I'm not playing. Not going to (let it) take up a lot of space in my mind," she said. Hunt added that the self-help book "The Only Diet There Is" by Sondra Ray was helpful in shifting her perspective on food and body image. "What I took from it is eat what you want and love every bite, period," she said. Justine Bateman embraces getting older: How to feel beautiful and accept aging The Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actress isn't the only female veteran to get candid on rejecting beauty standards. "Baywatch" alum Pamela Anderson and actress Justine Bateman have spoken out about embracing aging and stepping out in makeup-free looks. In a 2023 interview with "60 Minutes Australia," Bateman, who'd become the subject of online commentary over her "old" looks, defended her aged appearance and said cosmetic procedures "would erase" the authority she's gained over the years. "I like feeling that I am a different person now than I was when I was 20," Bateman said at the time. "I like looking in the mirror and seeing that evidence. ... I think my face represents who I am. I like it.'

Miley Cyrus Puts Her Own Twist on a '80s Rockstar Hairstyle at the Chanel and Tribeca Film Festival Luncheon in NYC

Miley Cyrus embodied the quintessential 1980s rockstar at Chanel's annual luncheon in collaboration with The Tribeca Film Festival in New York City on Friday. The 32-year-old 'Flowers' singer, who just released her latest studio album titled 'Something Beautiful,' attended the gathering to celebrate the Through Her Lens: The Tribeca Chanel Women's Filmmaker Program alongside a ballot of female actors, entertainers, filmmakers and music artists, including Parker Posey, Lola Tung, Riley Keough and Olivia Munn. Cyrus continued her side part stint, teasing her dark brown roots up and over to create an Elvis-esque bump in the front with only a single curl touching her forehead. Her bright blond highlights melted between her messy curls behind her shoulders. Yet, her stark side part and choppy barrel waves resembled a wild hair trend within the music scene during the 1980s. Hairstylist Bob Recine was behind the look. Recine has worked with the former Disney Channel star for years. For the most part, Cyrus kept her black sunglasses on outside in The Greenwich Hotel Courtyard. Underneath the shades, however, she wore a bit of bronze shadow on her eyes, mascara, white liner in her waterline and light pink gloss on her lips. Her go-to makeup artist is James Kaliardos, the professional behind her recent look for a surprise performance at The Carlyle Hotel earlier this week. Her fashion at the luncheon fit the rocker aesthetic, comprised of an inky black vest with four pockets, a two-tiered pleated skirt, matching nylons and mary jane heels. Next to her was her mom, Tish, dressed in a white blazer, black trousers, a lacy tank top and strappy, open-toe sandals. Cyrus' attendance on Friday comes just a week after her ninth studio album dropped. The record is also accompanied by her first short film, which is set to premiere during the festival on Friday. The film will be an extension of her album, a visual interpretation of the storyline told through all 13 songs. Dakota Johnson Goes Sheer in Long-sleeve Nensi Dojaka Midi Dress and Bodysuit While Promoting ‘Materialists' on ‘Seth Meyers'

Dakota Johnson made her latest stop on her 'Materialists' promotional tour on Thursday in New York City with an appearance on 'The Late Show With Seth Meyers.' The actress costars in the film alongside Chris Evan and Pedro Pascal. For her late-night talk show appearance, Johnson opted for the sheer trend, styling a long-sleeve midi dress courtesy of Nensi Dojaka. The actress wore the sheer piece with a fitted silhouette and exposed seams throughout. Beneath her sheer dress, Johnson added a brown, strapless bodysuit with a formfitting design. She completed the ensemble with a pair of black Saint Laurent Raven slingback pointed-toe pumps. When it came to her glam, Johnson's hair was styled straight and worn down, cascading past her shoulders, with fringe to frame her face by stylist Mark Townsend. Her makeup included such elements as bold brows, lined eyes and a glossy lip courtesy of artist Georgie Eisdell. Johnson's look was curated by Kate Young, who WWD named Best Stylist at the 2025 WWD Style Awards. Young recently styled Johnson in another sheer look for the 2025 Cannes Film Festival. While attending the Kering and Cannes Film Festival Official Dinner on May 18, Johnson wore an allover shimmering sleeveless dress by Gucci, with jewelry courtesy of Boucheron. Johnson is just one of Young's high-profile clients. The stylist also collaborates with Michelle Williams and Julianne Moore. In an interview with Young from January, the stylist explained the rapid change she's seen in the fashion and entertainment industries and how the two have become inextricably linked. 'People didn't even have a stylist. I think a lot of people bought a dress to go to the Globes, or maybe their costume designer did it,' she said. 'Celebrities and designers form alliances in a way they didn't used to. They might have met and become friends in the past, but now people align themselves with brands and then also become brand ambassadors or faces of campaigns,' Young said. 'Now, brands are so good at identifying talent they're interested in very early.' Written and directed by Oscar nominee Celine Song, 'Materialists' follows Johnson's character Lucy, a New York City matchmaker who finds herself at the center of a love triangle between her former flame, played by Evans, and a new love interest, played by Pascal. The film hits theaters June 13.
