Stefon Diggs already setting the tone for QB Drake Maye with confident message

FOXBOROUGH — With six straight 1000-plus yard seasons, four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs has a lot of confidence when he steps foot on the field. And he's making sure that Drake Maye also feels confident whenever he targets the veteran receiver.
Maye and Diggs have connected a lot during team periods throughout training camp, and when speaking with reporters on Thursday, the second-year quarterback detailed exactly what the receiver told him.
"I think it's just his mindset, just attacking the football. A guy like that, with his stature, who's caught a lot of touchdowns in this league and made a lot of big plays, he wants to go get the football," Maye said. "And he tells me all the time, 'if the ball's in the air, it's going to be mine.'
"So, I think it's comforting hearing that from those guys," he continued. "I think that's kind of starting to become something in the receiver room, that's the mindset. When the ball's in the air, go get it. So, I think it's comfortable hearing that. And it's comfortable, a guy who's also gone out there and proved it."
However, Maye also takes just as much responsibility, acknowledging that a good play always starts with him.
"It comes with me making a good throw as well," he explained. "So, just trying to do my part and let those guys — they get paid a lot of money too. So, let those guys make their plays, and just comes off the feeding off each other, of letting them do their part and doing mine."
Diggs is more determined than ever, with his 2024 season ending early after he tore his ACL. His recovery was extremely speedy, as he was given the full go before the start of training camp, and he's already made numerous impressive plays.
So, we'll just have to wait and see what he and Maye have in store when the regular season begins in September.
