Liverpool not ready to release Chiesa until new striker found
The Italy international had seemed to be on the way out just one year after his move to Anfield Road with the Juventus contract running down.
He barely set foot on the field throughout his first season, either due to injuries or poor form, yet still scoring two goals with two assists in 14 competitive appearances.

When he was left out of the travelling party for the pre-season friendly games, it was assumed he would be loaned out or sold.
However, La Gazzetta dello Sport now insist that Arne Slot wants to keep Chiesa, at least until they sign a new striker, with the primary target being Newcastle United star Isak.
Inter and Napoli remain interested in the 27-year-old, while Atalanta had also been linked, but any move is going to have to wait.

Freddy Adu, the former United States international best known for his emergence as a teenager, has urged Liverpool starlet Rio Ngumoha to stay grounded in his attempts to make the senior grade at Anfield. Adu became the youngest athlete to sign a professional contract in American sports history when he penned a deal with DC United in 2004 at the tender age of 14. Adu admits he was put on notice by Ngumoha's early strike in the friendly victory over Athletic Club at Anfield last week and the now 37-year-old has some words of advice for an England youth international whose reputation is beginning to soar. "So I didn't know much about him as a player until I heard about him because of the game against Athletic Bilbao," Adu, speaking exclusively to epl odds said. "But for him to be able to do that at the age of 16, that's impressive. "For any 16-year-old to do that, that's not by accident, especially doing it for a club like Liverpool. That's not by accident. "For you to be able to do that at that age, you clearly have to be uber talented and for him, I would say the same thing as I would say for Lamine Yamal - just keep the main thing, the main thing. "Keep it about football. Don't make it about anything else. People are going to sing your praises when you do well, and the same people are going to just pile on you when you're not doing well. "So you can't get too high and you can't get too low, you gotta sort of keep an even keel. Keep your head down, keep doing exactly what you were doing that got you to where you are." Ngumoha was an unused substitute during Sunday's Community Shield penalty shootout defeat to Crystal Palace at Wembley.

Celebrations to get underway in York for City's longest serving player
OFF the pitch celebrations are being planned for a York City football legend. York City footballer Paddy McLaughlin is celebrating ten years at the club, including two promotions and preparations are underway to honour his achievements. Among them, former managers and players will speaking at a dinner to be held at The Milner Hotel close to York Station in York on Thursday, November 6. 'It's great to bring people together to both recognise Patrick's service to York City and at the same time, raise funds for Menfulness, who do such brilliant work across the city.' Set up by five friends in 2016, Menfulness provides in-person and online support to men in the York area. Florian Thauvin joins Lens from Udinese
RC Lens have confirmed the signing of Florian Thauvin (32) from Udinese on a contract that will tie him to the club until 2028. Thauvin returns to a league that he is intimately familiar with, having made 289 appearances and scored 86 goals across stints with SC Bastia and Olympique de Marseille. The 2018 World Cup winner was also on the books for Lens's bitter rivals, Lille OSC, but strangely enough, his time with Les Dogues will likely have done him more favours in the eyes of the Lensois faithful. The Frenchman joined Lille from Bastia midway through the 2012/13 season and was loaned immediately back to the Corsican club. In the 2013 summer transfer window, the forward then signed for Marseille in acrimonious circumstances, with Thauvin later telling Le Media Carré, 'They made me look like the bad guy, but I was used as a bargaining chip. I never played for the club, and they made €10m on me.'
