CM Pinarayi Vijayan: No unholy ties or understanding by LDF
MALAPPURAM: Attacking the Jamaat-e-Islami-UDF relationship, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Friday accused the UDF of allying with those who have alienated a large section of society. At a public meeting held in Chungathara as part of the Nilambur by-election campaign, Pinarayi asked the Muslim League leaders to recall what Panakkad Thangal did when they were invited for the inauguration of Jamaat-e-Islami's newspaper and channel.
Pinarayi asked the UDF leadership to consider how adopting an opportunistic position by aligning with Jamaat-e-Islami will affect the country. They should also examine the dangers it will cause in the future, he said.
'Is it enough to just earn benefit for the time being? Shouldn't they take a stand that takes into account the welfare and future of the country? This (alliance) is not conducive to that,' the chief minister said. He said no such 'unholy understanding or ties' will be formed by the LDF. 'We are presenting crystal clear LDF politics to the country. The LDF does not need the blessings or support of any separatist, sectarian, or communal force,' Pinarayi declared.
Meanwhile, Leader of Opposition V D Satheesan accused the chief minister of openly promoting communalism. Satheesan pointed out that Pinarayi was the leader who had earlier held a press conference praising Jamaat-e-Islami.
'The chief minister changes his colour like a chameleon. No chief minister has ever changed their statements like this. Two CPM MPs won with the support of Jamaat-e-Islami,' the Congress leader alleged.
Satheesan also clarified that the UDF has taken a unanimous decision to accept Jamaat support.

Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH) Kerala chapter has served a legal notice on M.V. Govindan, State secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), for one of his statements against the organisation. Shihab Pookottur, State secretary, JIH, quoted Mr. Govindan as saying on June 14 that JIH was a prominent organisation that had not taken a stand against the Pahalgam attack. Citing a statement by Syed Sadatullah Husaini, national president, JIH, condemning the attack, Mr. Pookottur said that Mr. Govindan was trying to create political mileage in the Nilambur by-election by inducing Islamophobia through a fake campaign. The attempt was to paint a Muslim organisation as anti-national and dangerous and create communal polarisation and discord among Hindu and Christian communities, Mr. Pookottur said. Demanding a compensation of ₹1 crore, he said that Mr. Govindan need to correct his statement and issue a public apology.

Kiren Rijiju lays foundation of e-Vidhan project for paperless Delhi Assembly
New Delhi: Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Kiren Rijiju on Saturday commended the quick introduction of e-Vidhan (Paperless Assembly) system in Delhi Assembly as a major step towards transparency and efficient governance. Laying the foundation of the e-Vidhan (Paperless Assembly) in the presence of Delhi Legislative Assembly Speaker Vijender Gupta, the Union Minister said: 'The laying of the foundation stone for the e-Vidhan Project at the Delhi Legislative Assembly is a commendable step towards adopting technology for legislative efficiency and transparency.' He recalled the days of President's Rule in Delhi in 2014 when he prayed for election of an efficient and dedicated government. 'Now, I can say Delhi has got an that kind of responsive government. The e-Vidhan system is being implemented within 108 days, with the sanction of Rs 9 crore,' he said. Calling a legislature the heart of a government and democracy, he said the efficiency of the Assembly is indispensable for an efficient government. 'This event marks a significant milestone in the digitisation of legislative governance,' he said. 'While several states have already implemented the e-Vidhan system successfully, it is encouraging to see Delhi joining this important national initiative. I am pleased to be part of this progressive development. I want to see the Delhi Assembly as a model assembly, and this initiative will certainly help in achieving that goal,' he said. Speaker Vijender Gupta described the initiative as a milestone aimed at making Assembly functioning more efficient, transparent, and environmentally conscious. The project, being implemented under the National e-Vidhan Application (NeVA), is expected to digitize legislative operations, reduce paper usage, and provide lawmakers with real-time digital access to legislative business. The Speaker also informed that the tripartite MoU to implement NeVA was signed on March 22 between the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs, GNCTD, and the Delhi Legislative Assembly Secretariat in the presence of Minister Rijiju. Gupta further said that the Delhi Assembly has received grants of over Rs 9 crore from the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs (MoPA), out which more than Rs 1 crore has been granted in first installment. He also said that the Delhi Assembly is on track to become the first in the country to run entirely on renewable energy, with a 500-kW solar power project being installed. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta highlighted achievements of her four-month-old government and reiterated her team's efforts to start new projects almost everyday. 'We had tried our best to do something new everyday and make the best use of each day of our four-month-old government,' she said. Hailing e-Vidhan as a green effort aimed at saving trees, she praised Speaker Gupta for initiating reforms and terminating corrupt and negative practices that were prevalent in under the previous government. Deputy Speaker of the Delhi Legislative Assembly Mohan Singh Bisht, Minister of Industries, Food and Supplies and Environment, Forest and Wildlife Manjinder Singh Sirsa and Chief whip Abhay Verma were present as Guests of Honour.

Nilambur Assembly bypoll: Congress leaders cry foul over ‘targeted' vehicle checks as campaign intensifies
With less than four days for the Nilambur Assembly byelection, the campaign is becoming murkier, with Congress MP Shafi Parambil and Palakkad legislator Rahul Mankootathil accusing election officials of targeting them by asking them to pull over their vehicles at Colony Plot near Nilambur on Friday night (June 13, 2025.) The young Congress leaders have compared the incident of their vehicles being checked to the midnight raids on the hotel rooms of Congress leaders during the Palakkad by-poll last November. However, Election Commission officials dismissed the allegations of the Congress leaders, stating that vehicle checking is a routine procedure during polls. In fact, checks were carried out on the vehicles of IUML MP Abdul Wahab and CPI(M) MPs K. Radhakrishnan and P.K. Biju by the Static Surveillance Team at various entry points to Nilambur. These checks have been video-recorded. In a press release, district Collector and district Election Officer V.R. Vinod clarified that as part of the Model Code of Conduct implementation, 10 static surveillance teams, nine flying squads, three anti-defamation squads, two video surveillance teams and other systems are working. These are mandatory measures in accordance with the rules and regulations issued by the Election Commission of India, and he urged the people to cooperate with the officials. Earlier, the Congress leaders said they had been insulted by the officials, who had shone a torch into their vehicles, asked them to get out, and checked their suitcases. AICC general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, who will visit various places in Wayanad on Saturday, will also campaign in Nilambur, a part of Wayanad Lok Sabha constituency, on Sunday (June 15, 2025). The Nilambur bypoll on 19 June has become the cynosure of Kerala's political scenario with the Congress-led United Democratic Front and the CPI(M)-led LDF marshalling all their resources. The CPI(M) has nominated M. Swaraj, Congress has fielded Aryadan Shoukath and the BJP Mohan George. Also in the fray is P.V. Anvar, who resigned his legislative membership, which necessitated the byelection in the segment. He had won as an Independent with the support of the LDF in the 2021 Assembly polls. The counting of votes will take place on 23 June.
