Jannik Sinner rehires fitness coach he fired over three-month doping ban
Sinner failed two drug tests last year and was suspended at all tennis events from February 9, 2025 to May 4, 2025 after a settlement with the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA).
The Wimbledon champion and four-time major winner tested positive for clostebol twice – a steroid that can be used to build muscle mass.
Sinner's explanation that he was accidentally contaminated by a massage from his physiotherapist, Giacomo Naldi, who used a spray containing the banned substance to treat a finger cut, was accepted by WADA.
They decided that Sinner 'did not intend to cheat' but ruled he was responsible for his team's negligence, which ultimately saw him punished.
Sinner previously parted with Ferrara for his role in the clostebol case – with the fitness coach the one who had purchased the spray.
Ferrara blamed Naldi over the incident, arguing he provided the spray to the physiotherapist for personal use and warned him about using it on Sinner.
Sinner, 23, explained his decision to part ways with Ferrara and Naldi at last year's US Open.
'Now, because of these mistakes, I'm not feeling that confident to continue with them,' Sinner said. 'I was struggling a lot in the last months. I was waiting for the result. The only thing I need right now is some clean air.'
Sinner appointed Marco Panichi and Ulises Badio in September to replace Ferrara and Naldi – but they left their roles shortly before Wimbledon 2025.
Italian star Sinner is now back working with fitness coach Ferrara ahead of the 2025 US Open after a statement from his team on Wednesday. More Trending
'Umberto has played an important role in Jannik's development to date, and his return reflects a renewed focus on continuity and performance at the highest level,' the statement said.
'The decision has been made in alignment with Jannik's management team as part of ongoing preparations for upcoming tournaments, including the Cincinnati Open and US Open.'
Sinner only made his return to the ATP Tour in May following the ban – but since then – he's reached the French Open final and won Wimbledon.
Speaking after his triumph at the All England Club, Sinner admitted he was surprised at his impressive level of tennis so quickly after the comeback.

Ollie Watkins heads Man Utd's two-man striker transfer shortlist as club make decision on transfer for new keeper
The Red Devils are also looking to sell players in order to clear the way for new signings NEXT OF KINS Ollie Watkins heads Man Utd's two-man striker transfer shortlist as club make decision on transfer for new keeper OLLIE WATKINS heads Manchester United's two man striker shortlist. But the Old Trafford side will not get involved in a bidding war for PSG keeper Gianluigi Donnarumma, leaving the door open for Chelsea and Manchester City to try to lure the Italian. 6 Ollie Watkins has been in pre-season action for Aston Villa Credit: Getty 6 Gianluigi Donnarumma's PSG future is looking in doubt Credit: Shutterstock Editorial United are weighing up moves for either Aston Villa striker Watkins or Leipzig's Slovenian front man Benjamin Sesko. That rules out any interest in Nicolas Jackson, despite Chelsea being increasingly keen to find a taker for the Senegalese attacker. And any move may only be feasible if United can move on Rasmus Hojlund, preferably on a full-time basis rather than a Marcus Rashford-style loan. With United having spent £130m to give boss Ruben Amorim his two top targets - Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo, the Old Trafford hierarchy do still want a line-leading upgrade. READ MORE ON MAN UTD devilish Man Utd 'looking to hijack Newcastle's Sesko transfer after holding talks' Contact has been made with the entourages of both potential targets, with Watkins' proven Premier League experience a major plus The England striker, 29, has scored 75 top flight goals since moving to Villa Park. Before that, he was part of a successful attacking unit including Mbeumo at Brentford, a further tick in his box While Villa have dismissed all suggestions of an approach and insisted Watkins is not for sale at any price, they did offer him to Arsenal in the January window, before performing a U-turn after selling Jhon Duran instead. BEST ONLINE CASINOS - TOP SITES IN THE UK 6 6 Watkins is more of a box player than Sesko - who was also on Arsenal's summer wishlist - but has proven mobility and running power. At this stage, United are keeping both options open in case one becomes problematic. Man Utd stars baffled after being ordered to wear new high-tech JACKET in sizzling 42C heat on pre-season tour of US The Old Trafford club, aware of Villa's public stance, recognise that negotiations may not be simple and could take until the latter days of the summer window next month. Selling Hojlund, and also commanding fees for Alejandro Garnacho and Antony would make meeting hefty price-tags more likely. Meanwhile, United have shelved their interest in Villa keeper Emi Martinez. A loan offer was made and rejected last week but the club's current position is that Andre Onana will start the season as first choice. And that means no move for Donnarumma, whose contract stand-off with PSG has opened up the prospect he might be available. The Italian, with one year left on his deal with the Champions League winners, is seeking a significant mark-up in his £210,000 per week salary. But United are not willing to go there, meaning they will not rival City - who may lose Ederson and could be reluctant to make new signing James Trafford first choice, and Chelsea as potential Prem contenders. 6 TRANSFER NEWS LIVE - KEEP UP WITH ALL THE LATEST FROM A BUSY SUMMER WINDOW

Emma Raducanu digs deep to win first round in Montreal
The world number 33 weathered the storm and despite a run of six games in a row midway through the match, Raducanu was largely forced to battle and scrap to ensure she chalked up a sixth win from her last eight matches. Raducanu plays a shot to Elena-Gabriela Ruse (Graham Hughes/The Canadian Press via AP) Raducanu was swiftly back in action after her last-four run in Washington, but quickly in trouble as Ruse forced five break points in the opening game of the match. In more hot and humid conditions in Canada, British number one Raducanu showed her resilience and leaned on her improved serve to claim a crucial hold before more issues were forthcoming in her next service game. After Raducanu again survived, having been taken to deuce, she sensed her moment and was able to break Ruse to move 3-2 up after the Romanian sent down two double-faults. YES! @EmmaRaducanu breezes through round one at @OBNmontreal ❤️🔥 She beat Elena-Gabriela Ruse 6-2, 6-4 to advance & continue her strong form#BackTheBrits 🇬🇧 — LTA (@the_LTA) July 28, 2025 It sparked a run of six consecutive games for Raducanu as she clinched the opener by a 6-2 score, but an early break at the start of the second set was followed by an immediate response from Ruse. While Raducanu forced more break points on Ruse's serve, it was not until the seventh game of set two when the 2021 US Open champion broke again to move 4-3 ahead. It started a run of three consecutive breaks before Raducanu kept her cool to close out victory at the first time of asking on serve after a demanding one-hour-and-37-minute battle in the country of her birth. Next up for Raducanu is a second-round meeting with 32nd seed Peyton Stearns. Katie Boulter was unable to join her compatriot in the next round after she lost 6-1 7-5 to Renata Zarazua. Boulter only narrowly avoided a first-set bagel and despite an improved level in the second set, she suffered a third successive loss.

Everton exploring moves for Jack Grealish and former Arsenal and England star
Everton are eyeing up some big signings before the Premier League season gets underway, with a loan move for Jack Grealish on their agenda. The Toffees have already brought in Thierno Barry from Villarreal and goalkeeper Mark Travers from Bournemouth but want to do plenty more business. With the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Abdoulaye Doucoure, Mason Holgate and Ashley Young all leaving on free transfers, the squad is looking quite thin. The Independent report that Grealish is on Everton's shopping list and they fancy their chances of bringing in the Manchester City man on loan. The £100m man is thought to want to stay in the north of England to maintain stability with his family and Everton think they can tempt him to their project under new ownership and in their new stadium. Manchester City may want to sell him on a permanent deal, though, as he clearly has no future under Pep Guardiola after not being taken to the Club World Cup this summer. As long as he get up to full fitness, Grealish would be seen as a key player with the Toffees, which he has not been at the Etihad. Grealish has also been linked with a return to former club Aston Villa and a switch to join Italian champions Napoli. TalkSPORT report that Everton are also tracking former Arsenal and England utility man Ainsley Maitland-Niles. The 27-year-old has been with Lyon since 2023, moving to the French club when his contract expired at the Emirates. He has played regularly for Lyon over the last two seasons, making 73 appearances in all competitions, but with the club in a perilous financial position, offers will be considered. Maitland-Niles won five caps for England in 2020 under Gareth Southgate and can play at full back and across midfield. More Trending A number of players have already left Lyon this summer, including Rayan Cherki to Manchester City, Lucas Perri to Leeds, and both Alexandre Lacazette and Said Benrahma going to Neom. The Toffees are also in talks over a deal for another of Les Gones' star players, negotiating a move for Malick Fofana. The 20-year-old Belgium international scored 11 goals in all competitions last season, with Lyon reportedly wanting around £40m for his signature. The versatile forward is also on the radar of Liverpool as their summer spending spree continues.
