Ahly exclude Wessam Abu Ali from Tunisia camp for disciplinary reasons - Egyptian Football

Al-Ahram Weekly17-07-2025
Egyptian champions Ahly have dropped Palestinian striker Wessam Abu Ali from their pre-season training camp in Tunisia due to disciplinary breaches, the club said on Thursday.
The decision was made by sporting director Mohamed Youssef in consultation with Portuguese head coach José Ribeiro, ahead of the team's departure to Tunisia on Friday for a camp scheduled from 18 to 26 July.
Youssef said Abu Ali failed to attend scheduled fitness assessments, medical scans, and therapy sessions, and had been absent from training without permission.
'Wissam has an offer from a US club that didn't meet Ahly's terms. Until now, he remains under contract, but he missed training and the club has enforced its internal regulations,' Youssef told Ahly TV.
The 26-year-old joined Ahly from Sweden's IK Sirius in January 2024 and is contracted until 2029. During his time with the Cairo-based side, he won two Egyptian Premier League titles, the CAF Champions League, the Egyptian Super Cup, and the Intercontinental Challenge Cup.
Abu Ali made headlines at the FIFA Club World Cup earlier this year, scoring a hat-trick against Porto in the final group-stage match.
Youssef added that the club is evaluating potential reinforcements in the forward line, but said it was too early to discuss specific options.
'No meetings have been held with Mostafa Mohamed or his representatives,' Youssef said, denying reports linking the Nantes striker to a move back to Egypt.

Maddison set to miss most of Spurs season after knee injury - World

Tottenham midfielder James Maddison is expected to miss most of the upcoming Premier league season after rupturing an anterior cruciate ligament. The England international missed the end of the 2024/25 campaign with a knee injury but featured in pre-season under new boss Thomas Frank. Maddison collapsed in pain during a 1-1 draw with Newcastle in South Korea on Sunday with no one around him and left the pitch on a stretcher late in the game. Spurs' worst fears have now been confirmed, with the player facing surgery. "We can confirm that James Maddison will undergo surgery for a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) in his right knee," said a club statement. "The 28-year-old midfielder suffered the injury during our pre-season friendly against Newcastle United on Sunday in Seoul. "His surgery will take place in the coming days and, following that, James will then begin his rehabilitation with our medical team." The news is also a major blow to Maddison's hopes of forcing his way into England boss Thomas Tuchel's selection for next year's World Cup. Tottenham, who won the Europa League last season, face Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup in Italy on August 13 before launching their Premier League campaign against Burnley three days later. Summer transfer frenzy heats up as Egyptian teams gear up for new season - Egyptian Football

The 2025-2026 Egyptian Premier League season is set to kick off on Friday, with clubs making significant moves during the summer transfer window, which closed on Wednesday. Ahram Online highlights the top transfers as Egyptian teams prepare for the new campaign. Zamalek's rebuilding revolution Zamalek made headlines this summer by signing 10 new players as they aim to bounce back from a disappointing 2024-2025 season. The White Knights finished third in the league and were eliminated in the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-finals. Among their signings are five foreign players: Palestinian striker Oday Dabbagh, Swedish-Palestinian winger Adam Kaied, Angolan forward Chico Banza, Moroccan U-20 winger Abdelhamid Maali, and Brazilian winger Juan Alvina. Domestically, Zamalek added goalkeeper El-Mahdi Soliman, midfielder Ahmed Rabi (from NBE Club), defender Mohamed Ismael (from ZED FC), and the attacking duo Amr Nasser and Ahmed Sherif from Pharco FC. This rebuilding phase followed the appointment of John Edward as football director, who brought in Belgian coach Yannick Ferrera to lead the squad. Zamalek also offloaded several players, including Tunisian striker Hamza Mathlouthi, winger Mostafa Shalaby (to NBE Club), and Sayed Abdallah. Tunisian winger Ahmed Jafeli and Mostafa El-Zenary were sent out on loan. Meanwhile, veterans Mahmoud "Shikabala" Abdelrazik and Mohamed Abdelshafi retired. Zamalek will open their league campaign on Friday with a challenging away match against Ceramica Cleopatra at Suez Stadium. Ahly splash the cash Defending champions Ahly were busy in the transfer market, securing eight new signings ahead of the season, and notably before their participation in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup. Key acquisitions included Ahmed "Zizo" Sayed on a free transfer from rivals Zamalek and Mahmoud "Trezeguet" Hassan, who signed a five-year deal after leaving Turkish side Trabzonspor. Ahly also landed midfielder Mohamed Ali Ben Romdhane from Ferencváros and goalkeeper Mohamed Seha from Arab Contractors. The club retained striker Mohamed Sherif following the departure of Palestinian forward Wessam Abou Ali, as well as Malian midfielder Alio Dieng after his loan spell in Saudi Arabia ended. Notable departures include Tunisian left-back Ali Maaloul, midfielder Amr El Sulaya, defender Akram Tawfik, and goalkeeper Hamza Alaa. Ahly will begin their league title defence on Saturday with an away game against Modern Sport at Cairo International Stadium. Pyramids FC's measured approach CAF Champions League winners Pyramids FC took a more conservative approach this summer, announcing just three new signings. They secured Brazilian left winger Ewerton from Banik Ostrava, Mostafa Ziko from ZED FC, and goalkeeper Mahmoud Gad from Masry. The club also recalled Mohamed Reda, Mahmoud Saber, and Mahmoud "Zalaka" Abdelhafiz after their loan spells ended. Pyramids parted ways with rising star Ibrahim Adel, who transferred to the UAE side Al-Jazira, and South African Fagrie Lakay, who joined Cleaopatra FC on permanent basis. Pyramids FC, who finished second in the Egyptian League table last season, will start their new campaign against Wadi Degla on Friday. Other notable moves Veteran goalkeeper Mohamed Abou Gabal joined Modern Sport on a free transfer from NBE Club, while goalkeeper Mahmoud "Genesh" Abdelrahim moved from Modern Sport to Ittihad of Alexandria. Newly promoted Kahraba Ismailia made a splash by signing Moroccan star Mohamed Ounajem.
