These elements reflect the values of resilience, ambition, shared purpose, and ongoing national progress.His Highness Sheikh Theyab bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan emphasised that hosting a global event of this magnitude reflects the visionary leadership of His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, who considers healthy lifestyles and longevity to be an essential aspect of life for all individuals, irrespective of age or background.His Highness further noted that the games demonstrate the UAE's ongoing investment in the growth of its sports sector, positioning it as a vibrant platform for international engagement while affirming the nation's reputation for delivering world-class events that encourage broad participation and foster social cohesion.His Highness said the UAE welcomes all participants from around the world to the Open Masters Games, promising an unforgettable celebration of movement that reflects the UAE's values of tolerance, harmony, peace, and openness to all cultures.His Highness further noted that the UAE offers an ideal setting for international events thanks to its strategic location in the region, modern infrastructure, and advanced sports facilities, which contribute to a high quality of life, expanded opportunities for community participation, and improved physical wellbeing.President of the International Masters Games Association, Sergei Bubka, said, 'The Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026 will serve as a meaningful international platform that brings together participants from around the world and fosters lasting human connections. With the UAE hosting the games, it further strengthens its position as a trusted venue for major global events and confirms the confidence placed in the country by the international sports community.'The Open Masters Games Abu Dhabi 2026 will be the largest and most diverse multi-sport event ever held in the Middle East. The event will take place across the UAE between February 6-15, 2026, and is expected to attract more than 25,000 participants across 33 different sports. These include four traditional Emirati disciplines that honour the cultural legacy of the nation, and 18 sports open to People of Determination.The Games offer a wide variety of sports suited to all ages and abilities. These include precision events such as archery and shooting, team competitions like football, basketball, volleyball, netball and rugby, as well as individual disciplines including athletics, swimming, cycling, golf, tennis, table tennis, badminton, squash, and weightlifting.Combat sports such as judo, karate, jiu-jitsu and Muay Thai will be featured, along with water events like sailing, kayaking and canoeing, and camel racing.
Additional activities include bowling, cricket, orienteering, padel, traditional falconry, traditional horse racing, triathlon and duathlon, wrestling, traditional equestrian events, and obstacle course racing.

"They've been very active in chess, hosting events across the Emirates – Dubai, Sharjah, Abu Dhabi, Ras Al Khaimah – and playing an important role.'Players love coming here, and the [UAE] national federation is very active – always thinking of new ways to promote the game,' he said. The UAE has also hosted many major events at the continental level such as Asian Individual Chess Championship last month in Al Ain, the home of the Asian Chess Federation president, Sheikh Sultan bin Khalifa bin Shakhbout Al also recalled his personal connection to Dubai's chess scene. 'When I was younger, tournaments in the Emirates were some of the most anticipated. The 1986 Olympiad in Dubai was a special moment – even then, Dubai was a fascinating place. I remember being amazed [later] by an ice rink in the desert [Ski Dubai], something unheard of at the time. From my first Olympiad in '86 to today, it has always been a special chess destination – and it just keeps getting better.'Abu Dhabi hosting the Chess Olympiad again [in the UAE] after 42 years shows how much the country and the region have embraced chess. It's a thrilling prospect for players and fans alike. It shows how far the UAE has come as a chess destination.' Dvorkovich also gave his nod: 'It's a huge milestone.'While on Dubai, the FIDE boss recalled the 2021 World Championship contest between Magnus Carlsen and Ian Nepomniachtchi during the Dubai Expo 2020 when UAE demonstrated their ability to elevate chess into a global spectacle. "Dubai made it an international event, not just a local competition – that's what the city does best."And for both, the emergence of 15-year-old Rouda AlSerkal as the Gulf's first Woman Grandmaster has become a symbol of the UAE's chess ambitions. The Abu Dhabi resident's recent strong performances in international competitions, including in the open category of Norway Chess as a wild card, has many sit up and take notice."It's a wonderful surprise to see a young talent like Rouda breaking barriers," said Anand. "Her success has the potential to inspire countless girls across the region. It could be a game-changer for chess in the Middle East. Meanwhile, Dvorkovich also noted the strides of development being made in Qatar while looking at the broader picture in the Gulf region. Constant source of inspiration His Excellency Mohammed Abdullah Rashid Al Tarban, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Dibba Al Hisn Football Club, praised the unlimited support that sports in the emirate receives from His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah. He noted that His Highness's continuous generosity represents a constant source of inspiration and motivation for athletes and reflects an integrated development vision based on empowering youth and elevating sports institutions to the highest levels. Valuable lessons Al Tarban emphasised that the team's positive results, the players' heroic performance, and the tactical discipline on the field are all indicators of technical maturity and tangible development in collective performance. He pointed out that the team's failure to continue in the Professional League, despite competing until the final round, was due to circumstances beyond its control in some crucial matches. However, the experience remains a source of pride and valuable lessons upon which the team's future will be built. Al Tarban apologised to the club fans for the past, emphasising that the coming period will be a time of progress, continuity, and perseverance. Time for reorganisation In preparation for the new season, the club announced the implementation of a comprehensive plan to reorganise the team's ranks. This plan began with renewing confidence in Egyptian coach Captain Tarek El Sayed, who had previously successfully led the team in previous stages and demonstrated his technical skills and tactical ability to keep pace with the requirements of the First Division. New players Al Tarban explained that the club succeeded in retaining the most prominent foreign players who had contributed significantly during the previous season such as Medna, Alion, and Vitor, while also seeking to strengthen the team's ranks with new players who would contribute to creating a technical balance and preparing it to achieve its goal of returning to the Premier League. External training camps Al Tarban pointed out that the management is currently studying several options for holding an external training camp during the preparation period. The proposed destinations include Serbia, Turkey, and the Arab Republic of Egypt. The goal is to enhance the team's physical and technical readiness and build harmony among the team members before the start of official competitions. The club also extended its thanks and appreciation to His Excellency Issa Hilal Al Hazami, Chairman of the Sharjah Sports Council (SSC), for its continuous support of the first team and all the club's sports teams.
