It was where he was known to host many parties. 'They left at the end of the Manhattan Project, which was approximately only two years. And they left Los Alamos after the Manhattan Project concluded,' said Kristen Hollis, Assistant Director, Los Alamos Historical Society.
The home isn't open to the public, but the Los Alamos Historical Society wants to fix up the place and open it as a museum for visitors from around the world to enjoy. 'The framework of history is in the walls, in the flooring, and in the accomplishments of science that Oppenheimer did,' said Todd Nickols, Executive Director, Los Alamos Historical Society.
Inside the house, the society said people won't actually find Oppenheimer's belongings because those working on the Manhattan Project were only allowed to bring their clothes. Instead, the home will be filled with furniture from the set of the 2023 blockbuster hit movie, Oppenheimer.
The home was one of the filming locations. 'They gifted us all of the set furniture before the film was released,' said Nichols.
But making the house a part of the Los Alamos History Museum won't be an easy task. There is a lot of costly work to do, including fixing the foundation and adding new electrical. The society is seeking $5 million in funding. So far, they have raised $2 million.
The movie spurred an increase in visitors to the Los Alamos History Museum. 'Before it came out, we were about 25,000 people a year. Then in 2023, in 2024, we were about 65,000 visitors for each of those years,' said Nickols.
The society said the movie also caused more young people to be interested in learning about this part of history, which is why they hope to make the museum high tech to catch the eyes of the younger generation. 'What we would like for the exhibit itself about Oppenheimer to really be pushing the boundaries of technology once again which is going to include some AI,' said Hollis.
Visitors will be able to come in, sit down. And have a conversation with Hans Bethe. Or have a conversation with Oppenheimer,' said Nickols.
The museum hopes to have the house finished and open to the public in 2.5 years. They hope to get additional money for a preservation fund for museum upkeep. To donate, click this link.

Ex FBI director James Comey makes bizarre confession about Taylor Swift and President Trump in rambling video
Former FBI Director James Comey is trying to shake it off. Comey revealed in a bizarre video Sunday that he has a new coping mechanism to deal with the bad blood he has with President Trump: listening to pop icon Taylor Swift and trying to follow her wisdom. The self-styled 'Swiftie,' explained that he's struggled with the antics of Democrats like California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D), who punch back hard at Trump, and concluded that he likes Swift's softer approach better. Advertisement Former FBI director James Comey said he listens to Taylor Swift to help him deal with President Donald Trump. 'While our elderly makeup-covered president is posting about whether Taylor Swift is still hot and declaring that he can't stand her, what's she doing?' Comey reflected in a video on his Substack. Taylor Swift appears on boyfriend Travis Kelce's 'New Heights' podcast. New Heights Podcast Advertisement 'Living her best life, producing great music and as she urged all of us to do during the podcast, not giving the jerks power over her mind,' he said, referring to Swift's appearance on the 'New Heights' podcast with the Kelce brothers. Bill Maher Slams High-Profile Democrats For Being Too 'Afraid' To Appear On His Show
Bill Maher on Friday's 'Real Time' commended past Republican guests for coming on his show — and slammed numerous high-profile Democrats he said were too 'afraid' to do the same. Maher made an exception for Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-Calif.), who appeared as recently as March. Maher named several Democrats in his monologue, including former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, former Vice President Kamala Harris and former Presidents Bill Clinton and Barack Obama. He first poked fun at Newsom, however, for his 'perfect hair.' Related: 'Hey, at least Gavin comes here,' said Maher. 'People ask me all the time, 'Why haven't you ever had Hillary or Bill Clinton on? Why didn't you have Kamala on during the last campaign?' You think we don't ask? We ask these people every week. They say no.' Maher noted that it took eight years 'and a petition' to get Obama on his show in 2016. 'And these are people, all people, I voted for,' the 'Real Time' host continued. 'Think about that: they're afraid to come on the show of a guy who voted for them. The Republicans? They show up, and when they do, they take their beating like a man.' Related: Maher went on to play a montage of him sparring with past Republican guests, including former House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, Trump's former U.S. Attorney General Bill Barr, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz and former Trump aide Steve Bannon. He then reiterated that he 'would love' to have more notable Democrats on the show, specifically naming Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.), Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and New York City's Democratic mayoral nominee, Zohran Mamdani. 'But I can't subpoena the guests,' joked Maher. 'And I can't fix that what the Democrats are scared of, more than anything else… is being primaried from the far-left, even though most Democrats are not far-left. They're mild-mannered and moderate, at least in my bathhouse.' Warren has notably appeared on the show six times between 2009 and 2017. Other notable members of the Democratic Party who have sat down with Maher include House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.), former Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg and Obama's former chief of staff Rahm Emanuel. Maher appeared to suggest on Friday that Democrats might win more elections if they came on his show. He cited former CIA analyst Sen. Elissa Slotkin (D-Mich.), who urged her party in April to shed their 'weak and woke' reputation and 'fucking retake the flag.' Related: 'She's right,' said Maher. 'People vote on instinct. They can smell fear a swing state away.' Related... Bill Maher slams Democrats like Kamala Harris and the Clintons for being 'afraid' to come on his show
"Real Time" host Bill Maher called out Democrats like former Vice President Kamala Harris and the Clintons for being "afraid" to come onto his show while praising Republicans for coming on and taking "their beating like a man." The "Real Time" host said people ask him "all the time" why he doesn't have guests like Harris or Bill and Hillary Clinton on his program, but according to Maher, it's not for a lack of trying on his end. "You think we don't ask? We ask these people every week. They say no," he said. "It took eight years and a petition to get Obama on." Bill Maher Admits He Still Fears Getting Canceled Despite Cultural 'Vibe Shift' After Election Maher expressed confusion at the fact that Democratic politicians would be "afraid" to come on his show, considering that the late-night host is a longtime liberal who mostly votes for Democrats. "And these are people — all people I voted for. Think about that. They're afraid to come on the show of a guy who voted for them," he jeered. "The Republicans, they show up and when they do, they take their beating like a man." Read On The Fox News App The late-night host then played a montage of conservatives appearing on "Real Time" and getting into heated disagreements with him. Conservative guests included in the montage were former Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy, former Attorney General Bill Barr, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and longtime Trump ally Steve Bannon. "Look, I would love to have AOC on the show and [Zohran] Mandani and Elizabeth Warren, but I can't subpoena the guests and I can't fix that," Maher asserted. "What the Democrats are scared of more than anything else. I mean, obviously, besides gluten, is being primaried from the far left, even though most Democrats are not far-left, they're mildmannered and moderate." He joked, "At least at my bath house." Click Here For The Latest Media And Culture News Although Maher was critical of Democrats who were too "afraid" to make an appearance on his show, there was one liberal politician who Maher praised for being brave enough to make an appearance. In the prior segment, Maher poked fun at California Gov. Gavin Newsom for his "perfect hair," but commended the fact that he's willing to come on his show. The last time Newsom was on "Real Time," Maher did not pull any punches during their time together, calling out the governor over the Golden State's many regulations — something he'd previously pressed Newsom on. The liberal host relayed how he personally felt the sting of big government. Maher kicked off the exchange in March by complaining to Newsom about how he needed to pay out-of-pocket for "two inspections" for upgrades on his roof following the devastating wildfires in the Pacific Palisades. "It's my roof!" Maher exclaimed. "If it falls on my head, that's my problem." "Why do I need two inspections, which I have to pay for? You were here last time. We talked about regulations. You said, 'Oh, it's a completely new day,'" Maher said and made a face at the governor. "You said you were working on it." Fox News' Joseph A.
