In Mumbai weather turned pleasant on Tuesday (May 27, 2025) morning as light rain lashed parts of the city, and according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), a generally cloudy sky with heavy rain is expected to continue. On Monday, Mumbai witnessed heavy rain, marking the onset of the monsoon.
South Mumbai recorded extremely heavy rainfall, with over 250 mm in just 13 hours ending at 11 am on Monday, officials said. Meanwhile, heavy downpours continued to wreak havoc in Kerala and Karnataka on Monday, severely disrupting normal life and forcing people to shift to relief camps and safer locations in many places. According to the Kerala Chief Minister's Office, the intense monsoon has claimed four lives in the State so far. A red alert for coastal Karnataka will remain in force for the next five days, the IMD said.
Seven of family found dead in car in Haryana's Panchkula
Six members of a family, three of them children, were found dead inside a car in Haryana's Panchkula, while one more died on his way to a hospital, police said on Tuesday (May 27, 2025), suspecting a suicide pact.
The car was spotted late last night by a passerby, who even exchanged a few words with the family member who died last.
Police identified one of the deceased as Praveen Mittal, 41, the others as his wife, the couple's three minor children, two of them girls, both twins, and his parents.
Panchkula Deputy Commissioner of Police Himadree Kaushik said, 'Prima facie, it appears to be a matter of suicide. However, further investigations are on.' She said six of them were taken to a private hospital, while one was taken to the civil hospital. 'All seven died' she added. The cause of death at this time appears to be poisoning, she said.
