Sean 'Diddy' Combs criminal case: The music mogul submits a letter; demands a mistrial if the juror gets dismissal

Sean 'Diddy' Combs has submitted a letter to Judge Arun Subramanian claiming that the government wants to get rid of one of the African-American jurors only because of the race, and that he wants a mistrial if the judge bangs his gavel for the dismissal. What happened with the juror? One of the jurors in the high-profile case with sexual harassment case of Diddy is being considered to face dismissal from the court due to conflicting statements about residency, raising concerns about the safety and honesty that the jury should hold. Juror number 6, the 41-year-old African-American man, claimed he lived in a New York apartment during the weekdays. However, the statements changed to being relocated to New Jersey to stay with his girlfriend, and at other times, he claimed to have been living with his girlfriend or aunt in the Bronx. Diddy demands a mistrial... Diddy submitted a letter, stating that the court may believe the prosecutor's judgment, but the government wants 'to take advantage of an opportunity to strike yet another black male from the jury." Furthermore, he has claimed that the inconsistent answers about residency do not make the male unfit to serve on the jury, according to TMZ. While the judge had made up his mind to order the dismissal after the evidence emerged, the defendants think the decision is unjustifiable. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Play Chess on Your PC, Free Play Classic Chess Install Now Undo Diddy has argued that if the court dismisses the juror, people of colour would not serve on the jury in the future. The Daily Mail reports that 5 are African-American in the jury. Chhattisgarh HC upholds gang rape convictions; emphasizes need for greater protection of minor victims

Chhattisgarh HC RAIPUR: The Chhattisgarh High Court affirmed that acts of sexual assault or harassment against children must be dealt with stringently, leaving no room for leniency under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The court made this observation while upholding the conviction and sentence of three men involved in a gang rape case in Makdi village, Kondagaon district. The court observed that a minor subjected to sexual abuse requires greater protection than an adult victim, as an adult may still be able to endure social ostracism and mental harassment inflicted by society, whereas a minor is far less equipped to cope. Most crimes against minors often go unreported, as the perpetrator is frequently a family member or a close acquaintance. Therefore, a child victim needs special protection, and no leniency can be extended to an accused found guilty under the POCSO Act , 2012, especially when the offence is proven by adequate evidence before a court of law. A division bench of Chief Justice Ramesh Sinha and Justice Bibhu Datta Guru delivered a common judgment on three criminal appeals filed by three accused. The appellants challenged the judgment dated August 25, 2021, passed by the Additional Sessions Judge (FTC) Kondagaon. The Special Judge convicted them under Section 6 of the POCSO Act, sentencing each to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment and a fine of Rs 5,000, with an additional three years of rigorous imprisonment in default of payment. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Brazilian Bikinis 2025 Expertinspector Click Here Undo The case dates back to April 26, 2019, when the victim, a minor, and her friend went to a field near a wedding venue in Makdi village. Four boys gagged and dragged the victim to a field, where they sexually assaulted her and threatened to kill her. The victim identified the accused with the help of mobile torchlight. Following her complaint, a case was registered under Sections 376(D), 506 of the Indian Penal Code, and Sections 4, 6 of the POCSO Act. The court verified the victim's age, based on her father's statement and school records, confirming she was 13 years old at the time of the incident, falling under the definition of "child" as per Section 2(d) of the POCSO Act. Medical evidence also corroborated that sexual intercourse occurred within 24 hours of her examination. The court reiterated that the testimony of a prosecutrix in sexual offence cases does not require corroboration if it inspires confidence, citing previous Supreme Court rulings. The victim's consistent account to her parents, villagers, and the trial court, along with the corroborating statements of an eyewitness and other prosecution witnesses, were key to the conviction. The FSL report also confirmed the presence of semen stains, supporting the sexual assault. The High Court observed that the prosecution successfully proved beyond reasonable doubt that the victim was a minor at the time of the incident and that the accused committed aggravated penetrative sexual assault by gang-raping her. The court found no illegality or irregularity in the findings recorded by the Sessions Judge. The appeals were dismissed, and the conviction and sentence awarded by the trial court were upheld.

Ahmedabad plane crash: DNA confirms identities of 87 of those killed

The identities of 87 persons who died in the Air India plane crash in Ahmedabad on June 12 have been confirmed through DNA testing, PTI quoted an official as saying on Monday. The bodies of 57 persons have been handed over to their families after the identification, said Dr Rajnish Patel, professor of surgery at BJ Medical College and Civil Hospital in Ahmedabad. On Sunday, the civil hospital confirmed that the body of Gujarat's former Chief Minister Vijay Rupani had also been identified through the DNA test. The body was handed over to his family on Monday. Rupani was among the 242 persons aboard the Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner aircraft – enroute to London's Gatwick airport from Ahmedabad – that crashed just 33 seconds after taking off. Only one passenger survived with ' impact injuries '. The aircraft's crash into the hostel building of the BJ Medical College also killed at least four medical students on the ground. This is being viewed as the world's worst aviation disaster in a decade. Though the number of persons killed on the ground has yet to be ascertained, the civil hospital said on Sunday that 250 samples, including those of persons killed on the ground, have been collected for identification, reported PTI. Meanwhile, a high-level panel constituted to probe the accident will likely hold its first meeting on Monday, The Indian Express reported.
