Where did the rest of the nation's destinations rank? To find the most expensive destinations, GOBankingRates found 55 top vacation locales using data from the U.S. Census American Community Survey and Numbeo's Cost of Living. This study assumes vacationers are two adults visiting for three nights, having three meals at a mid-range restaurant, 12 meals at inexpensive restaurants, six beers and six sodas. Additional travel factors include each city's average hotel cost (selected using the average cost of the three cheapest hotels within five miles of each city) and airfare cost (selected using the nearest airport from the destination with available data and double for two).
Florida narrowly beat out California with the most tourist destinations out of any state — all of which are affordable. Miami Beach (#32), Naples (#36), West Palm Beach (#37), Fort Lauderdale (#47), Orlando (#52), Kissimmee (#54) and Clearwater (#55) had total vacation costs of $1,630 or less for two adults.
Aspen, Anchorage, Fairbanks, Taos, Santa Fe, Williamsburg, Hot Springs and Birmingham have the most expensive airfare costs. Couples pay more than $1,000 for flights to these eight popular tourist destinations.
It's always 5 o'clock somewhere: Which destination has the cheapest beer? Vacationers pay the least for domestic beer in Branson, Missouri ($3.75); whereas beer purchased in Los Angeles costs $8.50.
Clearwater, Florida, might rank in last place, but it's the least expensive tourist destination for vacationers on a budget. The total vacation costs are $998 and airfare costs for a couple are $264, the cheapest of the 55 destinations.

Methodology: For this study, GOBankingRates analyzed the top vacation destinations in the US to find the most expensive vacations. GOBankingRates found 91 cities considered the top vacation destinations sourced from TripAdvisor's Top Destinations, Travel+Leisure's 2024 Top US Cities, and U.S. News & World Report's Best Cities in the U.S. Fifty-five cities qualified for this study as each city had to have data available from the U.S. Census American Community Survey and Numbeo's Cost of Living. For this study, GOBankingRates is assuming the vacationers are two adults visiting for three nights. They have three meals at a mid-range restaurant, 12 meals at inexpensive restaurants, six beers and six sodas. For each city, GOBankingRates found the average airfare cost from the Bureau of Transportation Statistics, the average cost of hotels from Hotels.com and the average cost of goods from Numbeo. The airfare was selected using the nearest airport from the vacation destination. The hotels were selected using the average cost of the three cheapest hotels within five miles of each city. The weekend dates of Aug. 7-10, 2025, were selected. All data was collected on and is up to date as of June 4, 2025.

Austin Eckroat's career-low round enough to match Scheffler after first day at Travelers Championship
CROMWELL – From above the 18th green, Austin Eckroat was out of sight. All that was visible from behind the scoreboard off to the left side of the fairway was the reflection of the sun on his club face. It was tight, but Eckroat was able to see the pin and managed to lift his second shot 128 yards onto the left side of the green. The putt – 17 feet, five inches – was no problem for the 26-year-old who also sunk a 35-footer for eagle on No. 13 and went into the clubhouse at 8-under-par 62, topping the leaderboard he was hidden behind. Advertisement 'I was on that side-hill lie, it was kind of thick, I was afraid if the heel caught, I could hit (the scoreboard) and that was really all my question was. But to get relief it had to be more in my way,' he said. 'Luckily it came out great, and I was able to make birdie.' It completed the best round of Eckroat's professional career, which began on a sponsor's exemption at the Travelers in 2021. Yet, it wasn't enough to hold onto the lead by the end of Thursday's opening round. Scottie Scheffler, the No. 1 golfer in the world defending his 2024 Travelers crown, matched Eckroat's eagle on No. 13 to tie the lead and jumped into the top spot with a birdie on No. 15 about three and a half hours after Eckroat finished. Advertisement Scheffler hit from the rough, across the water and over the green on No. 17. His fourth shot on the par-4, a 16-foot putt, missed right of the hole and left him with bogey to drop back into a tie with Eckroat at 8-under. Still, it was Scheffler's lowest-scoring round in five career appearances in Cromwell. 'I actually got a pretty good lie in the rough,' Scheffler said. 'I got a lucky break and wasn't able to take advantage of it, but overall, I hit a lot of good shots, gave myself a lot of looks. I got off to a good start, and like I said, it was challenging out there late in the day. The wind was blowing pretty hard, and I was able to hit some really nice shots to get some good looks.' The temperature got up to around 87 degrees by the time Eckroat's round finished and Scheffler's started. The wind picked up with the passing storm later in the day as the bogey count rose to 150, 10 more than the first round last year. Despite the threat of thunderstorms throughout the afternoon, none reached the River Highlands. There were 259 total birdies recorded, six less than the opening round in 2024, three eagles and 850 pars. Advertisement Eckroat, responsible for six birdies, came into the media tent smiling through sweat. Although he has two career wins, he has finished outside the top 25 in 13 consecutive events. 'It's funny, a lot of Wednesdays I've felt really good going into the tournament and then Thursday comes around and it hasn't been there,' he said. 'I don't know if it's just the stress of playing in a PGA Tour event, but this one, it was nice to feel good on Wednesday and then actually take it into Thursday.' Eckroat hit 10 of 14 fairways and 15 of 18 greens in regulation on Thursday, crediting the success to a minor grip adjustment. 'It was just an easy fix, which is always annoying. You want it to be – in your mind it seems like it's something crazy, but it really isn't, it's just something minor, which is nice, obviously. But it's frustrating because it was just one piece away the whole time,' he said. 'I just went a little weaker with my right hand and I was able to release the club properly at that point. I wouldn't say it was weak, it had just gotten really strong, and I hadn't paid attention to that. I was focusing on the other aspects of the golf swing, so just a little bit weaker, more on top of the club.' Advertisement World No. 2 Rory McIlroy, 2023 Travelers champion Keegan Bradley and 2023 U.S. Open winner Wyndham Clark will each enter Friday's second round two strokes back at 6-under. Cameron Young sits alone in sixth place after recovering from a double bogey on the first hole to shoot 5-under 65. He is followed by a group of eight players at 4-under: Davis Riley, Nick Taylor, Jason Day, Adam Hadwin, Max Greyserman, Tommy Fleetwood, Viktor Hovland and Brian Harman. Tom Kim, who tied Scheffler after 72 holes in last year's tournament to force a playoff, received a sponsor's exemption to play this year and shot 3-under 67. The Travelers is the eighth and final PGA Tour Signature Event of the season. It has a $20 million purse with $3.6 million and 700 FedExCup points to the winner. Scheffler holds a lead of more than 1,000 points in the FedExCup standings ahead of McIlroy; Eckroat is 34th. Advertisement Scheffler will tee-off with U.S. Open winner JJ Spaun, who shot 3-over 73, at 10:35 a.m. on Friday. Eckroat will hit off the first tee at 12:30 p.m. with Byeong Hun An. 'I felt confident, which it was nice to feel that this season,' Eckroat said. 'It's been a while.'

Dallas-Fort Worth ranks 5th in worst bed bug-infested cities in the U.S., study says
DFW is the 5th most bed bug-infested area in the U.S. DFW is the 5th most bed bug-infested area in the U.S. DFW is the 5th most bed bug-infested area in the U.S. If you need some motivation to get your laundry done, Dallas-Fort Worth is one of the most bed bug-infested areas in the country, according to call data released this month from the pest control company Terminix. The annual study ranks DFW as the fifth worst city for bed bugs in the U.S., topped only by Los Angeles, Cleveland, New York and reigning champ Philadelphia. The rankings are determined by the number of bed bug control services. The study says it's likely due to our warm climate, plus a high rate of tourism and travel. Bed bugs thrive in warm, humid conditions and love to hitchhike. How to identify bed bugs Full-grown bed bugs are brown or reddish-brown with an oval-shaped body about the size of an apple seed, the EPA says, while their young are much smaller, translucent or whitish-yellow, and can be very hard to see. Bed bugs come out at night to feed on human blood. Bed bugs are not known to transmit diseases, but their bites can cause allergic reactions. Bed bugs can be found in a variety of places, including homes, hotels, public transportation, and even some businesses. How to know if you've been bitten by a bed bug Bed bugs eat all three meals of the day at once, so look for the "breakfast, lunch and dinner" sign. The bites themselves often look like red bumps, but can also vary slightly from person to person. It may take several days for the marks to appear. Bed bugs are not attracted to dirt and grime and do not have a preference for specific blood types. Some people may have a strong reaction to bed bug bites, while others have little to no reaction, and it may appear that bed bugs are targeting specific individuals. According to the Mayo Clinic, bed bug bites don't usually need treatment and disappear on their own within a week or two. If needed, you can ease symptoms by using a skin cream containing hydrocortisone or an oral antihistamine. Travel tips When you arrive at a hotel or vacation rental, do a thorough search of the bed — underneath it, behind the bed frame, on the sides of the mattress and in between the mattress and frame. Bring a flashlight; check the seams of the bed sheets. If you see anything that looks like rust, call management. If you're able, turn over the mattress, no matter what size. Bed bugs like to congregate in dark places. You can also look for blood stains or small black dots that look like mold or ground pepper. Spraying with isopropyl alcohol can kill bed bugs, and it can kill their eggs — but it only kills on contact. The bugs must be sprayed directly, and it can be very difficult to find and expose them. Keeping your belongings off the ground in your accommodations is another way to prevent bedbugs from hitching a ride. Instead, opt to place items on the tops of dressers or other spots higher up. Believe it or not, the safest place in a hotel room to keep your luggage is in the bathtub. The critters are less likely to be found in the bathroom, where tile floors are less inviting. Examine your luggage when you repack and inspect it for any black or brown spots and launder all the clothing you brought with you with the hottest water when you get home. Preventing bed bug infestations If you've got some time on your hands and want to busy yourself with a home DIY project, you can buy some caulk and work to seal the cracks and crevices in your home, the EPA suggests. This will help prevent bed bugs and other pests from entering. Keep personal belongings as well as bags you've brought in from outside off the floor and away from your bed. Treating bed bug infestations Call an exterminator. Treatments cost anywhere from $1-$8 per square foot. Look for EPA-registered pesticides that have bed bugs listed on the label. Don't use pesticides and other powerful chemicals meant for outdoors, inside. Wash clothing and bedding at a high temperature. Seal mattresses and box springs in protective covers, the EPA says. With covers that seal, the bed bugs will get trapped inside and die. Steam cleaning and vacuuming can help, but may not be enough to rid your home of the critters. Keep inspecting for bed bugs at least every 7 days in case any eggs remain.
