61 illegal immigrants nabbed in Penang
State Immigration director Nur Zulfa Ibrahim said the operation was conducted on the second floor of the Komtar complex here and the first floor of the Penang Sentral Bus Terminal in Butterworth.
'A total of 226 foreigners were inspected during the operation, and we arrested 41 men and 20 women, aged 20 to 50, for various offences under the Immigration Act.
'Those arrested included 35 men and 13 women from Myanmar, seven Indonesian women, five Bangladeshi men, and one Pakistani man,' she said when contacted by Bernama today.
She added that the operation would continue periodically as part of efforts to combat the presence of iullegal immigrants in Penang.

PUTRAJAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained a seven-day remand order for individuals arrested in a smuggling racket yesterday. Among them are five military officers, two journalists from an online news agency, a company manager, an administrative assistant with the Malaysian Medical Association (MMA) and a foreign woman. Four male suspects were remanded for seven days until Aug 20, two men and one woman for two days until Aug 18, while two men and an Indonesian woman were remanded for three days until Aug 15. Magistrate Irza Zulaikha Rohanuddin issued the remand orders after an application by MACC at the Putrajaya magistrate's court this morning. According to a source, the suspects, aged between 30 and 55, were arrested around the Klang Valley on Wednesday during Op Sohor by MACC's Intelligence Division with the cooperation of police. "The senior military intelligence officers are believed to have colluded with the syndicate by leaking operational information to help them evade enforcement action. "The smuggled items included drugs, cigarettes and other goods from neighbouring countries, with an estimated value of about RM5 million a month," the source said. Investigations revealed that over the past 12 months, the syndicate allegedly paid between RM30,000 and RM50,000 in bribes to the officers for each smuggling operation. The network involving the military officers is believed to be extensive and complex. During Wednesday's operation, MACC also seized more than RM63,000 in cash, several packages suspected to contain drugs, weighing and measuring equipment, alcohol and an imitation firearm. MACC Intelligence Division senior director Datuk Saiful Ezral Arifin, when contacted, confirmed the arrests, adding that the case is being investigated for corruption and money laundering offences.

Wangsa Maju district police chief ACP Mohammad Lazim Ismail said the two men, in their 20s, were arrested while flying a drone at the football field near the building. According to him, the two individuals were detained by security personnel before being handed over to the Criminal Investigation Division of the Wangsa Maju district police headquarters. 'Some items such as drones and memory cards were also seized,' he said when contacted by Bernama here today. Mohammad Lazim said the two nationals, who had valid travel documents, claimed the drone footage was taken at the direction of their employers, but they did not know the motive and purpose of the recording. He said the two individuals were charged at the Kuala Lumpur Sessions Court yesterday under Sections 3(a) and 4 of the Official Secrets Act for spying and documenting within restricted areas. Traditional Medicine Practitioner Loses Over RM100,000 In Bitcoin Investment Scheme
MUAR, Aug 14 (Bernama) -- A traditional medicine practitioner suffered losses totalling RM180,066 after being tricked into withdrawing his savings to invest in a non-existent investment scheme which supposedly promised lucrative returns. Muar district police chief ACP Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the 49-year-old man was initially contacted by a woman early last month via WhatsApp who offered a Bitcoin investment scheme that allegedly had a profit return of between 20 and 40 per cent. He said the victim was then instructed to register on an investment website and contact an officer to start investing.
