Harpreet Brar dedicated his Player of the Match award to his wife after leading Punjab Kings to a crucial victory over the Rajasthan Royals.
Punjab Kings' left-arm spinner Harpreet Brar on Sunday, May 18, dedicated his Player of the Match award against the Rajasthan Royals to his wife Anmol Sandhu, saying that it was his first award after marriage, in what has come as a lovely gesture from the newly-married cricketer.
Brar bowled a match-turning spell after Nehal Wadhera and Shashank Singh made bruising half-centuries as Punjab edged closer to an IPL playoff berth with a 10-run victory over Rajasthan.
Punjab later qualified for the playoffs after the Gujarat Titans defeated the Delhi Capitals in the evening game.
'I am feeling really good. I would like to dedicate this award to my wife, as it is my first after marriage," Brar said while speaking at the post-match presentation.
'We practice a lot against the left-handers. Ponting Sir has told us that a leftie can get a leftie out. I have worked on that, I knew they would come after me, but I went back to bowling to my strengths," Brar added.

The spinner, who came in as a substitute for captain Shreyas Iyer, who suffered a finger injury, was introduced in the fifth over, and he walked away with an impressive 3/22 in four overs.
Brar, who mixed up his angles, trajectory and pace with precision, played a big part in Punjab's win against Rajasthan.
'The way the wicket was playing and they were batting, the plan was to not give a boundary or give them easy balls. I have been with Sunil (Joshi) Sir for a long time, I have learned a lot, he's taught me how to use the crease, how to read the batter and the wicket," Brar said.
'After Chahal's arrival, I thought it would be easy to bowl with him. I didn't get an opportunity at the start, but cricket is a funny game. I always thought that once I got an opportunity, I would grab it," Brar added.
The spinner's introduction proved decisive, as he first removed Vaibhav Suryavanshi and then dismissed Yashasvi Jaiswal, who fell after completing his sixth half-century of the season.
PBKS will next play the Delhi Capitals on Saturday, May 24, in Jaipur.

Intra-Squad Warm-Up: Chance To Track Current Form, Bowling Combinations

Quick Read Summary is AI generated, newsroom reviewed The Indian senior team will play a four-day intra-squad game in Beckenham, Kent. This match serves as a simulation before the Test against England starting June 20. Closed-door sessions prevent tactical insights for the opposition, a strategy used previously. The artist in Kuldeep Yadav would look to keep an accurate Ravindra Jadeja on toes when both the slow left-arm bowlers take the field during the senior Indian team's four-day intra-squad warm-up game against India A starting in Beckenham, Kent on Friday. The match will be the senior team's only simulation game before the opening Test against England at the Headingly from June 20. The intra-sqaud game acts like a pre-cursor to the Test match. The Indian team under head coach Gautam Gambhir opted for a "closed door" session to prevent the opposition from getting any ideas on the tactical front, emulating a long-established practice among European football clubs. They had done the same during the tour of Australia earlier this year. As bowling coach Morne Morkel said on Wednesday, building the stamina to bowl and field 90 overs a day is very different from normal net sessions. The four-day game, which doesn't have the official first-class status, gives batters a second go if someone is dismissed cheaply. With 360 overs of match simulation available over four days, it will give the team management a chance to allow the bowling unit get enough overs under their belt. That would be handy in ensuring that the bowlers -- be it a spinner or a pacer -- have the requisite rhythm in actual match. Gambhir will have some work to do in terms of zeroing in on lone specialist spinner for Headingley. There is Ravindra Jadeja, whose superior batting becomes a huge factor in SENA countries but against England's 'Bazballers', Kuldeep Yadav's versatility could complement pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah better if India harbour any hopes of picking 20 wickets. Jadeja versus Kuldeep is the biggest playing eleven jigsaw puzzle that needs to be sorted by Gambhir and the coaching staff. Similarly, the intra-squad game will also give the coaches and skipper Shubman Gill a chance to see which of Akash Deep's fuller length or Prasidh Krishna's back of the length stuff works better in these conditions. Bumrah, who will be playing a red-ball game after six months, will also get a chance to bowl multiple spells and test his fitness having only played IPL since his comeback from a lower back stress injury.

"Can You Survive Five Days?" Yograj Singh Gives Vaibhav Suryavanshi's Test Ambition Blunt Reality Check

From Priyansh Arya to Ayush Mhatre, IPL 2025 was a breakout season for a lot uncapped Indian stars. However, none tasted success on personal front like the way Vaibhav Suryavanshi did. The 14-year-old created the record for the fastest IPL century by an Indian in terms of balls faced (35) as he cracked 101 off only 38 balls with seven fours and 11 sixes against Gujarat Titans in Jaipur in April. Now 14, Suryavanshi is set to embark on a new journey, having been named in the India U-19 squad for the upcoming tour of England. Yograj Singh, a former India cricketer and father of legendary all-rounder Yuvraj Singh, has urged the young crop of cricketers, including Suryavanshi, to work on their fitness. While he praised the youngsters for their achievements in shorter, Yograj insisted that real greatness comes through Test cricket. "My vision is Test cricket. Can you survive five days? That's the real test. 50 overs - fair enough. 20 overs - fair enough. I don't go by these formats. But since they (formats) are there, you should be fit enough to play all three formats. Why do you struggle? Because you are only concentrating on T20, IPL and 50 overs. Aj toh 50 overs bhi nahi khel sakte hum log (Today, we cannot even play 50 overs). That's the way we are," Yograj told InsideSport. Yograj also took a swipe at some coaches and office bearers who work in air-conditioned rooms instead of sweating hard on the field with young cricketers. "All the coaches and all the administrators want to sit in the air conditioning and do things. Here, I am under 48 degrees Celsius, having a passion to produce more brilliant cricketers like Yuvraj Singh," he added. Suryavanshi began his IPL life with a first-ball six, and went on to score 252 runs at a mind-boggling strike rate of 206.55. India vs England 2025: Coach Brendon McCullum names THIS star cricketer as new 'leader' in team, he is Virat Kohli's teammate, his name is…

RCB all-rounder Jacob Bethell is getting ready to face India in five-match Test series. (Photo: IANS) England will begin five-match Test series against Team India for 'Tendulkar-Anderson Trophy' next week from June 20 onwards at Headingley in Leeds. The first Test will see the return of young all-rounder Jacob Bethell to the England Test team after missing the one-off Test against Zimbabwe last month. England head coach Brendon McCullum has dubbed Bethell as one of the 'leader' in the side which will be captained by all-rounder Ben Stokes. Bethell was bought for Rs 2.6 crore by IPL 2025 champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the IPL 2025 mega auction last year. He is only 21 years of age will be among players to watch as a new-look English squad begin their ICC World Test Championship (WTC) cycle 2025-27 against India, who are themselves transitioning from retirements of star cricketers like Virat Kohli, Rohit Sharma from Tests and Ravichandran Ashwin in international cricket. The RCB all-rounder impressed during the white-ball series against West Indies, scoring knocks of 82 and 17 in ODIs, while playing quickfire cameos of 23 not out, 26 and 36 not out during T20Is. He also picked two wickets in the ODI series and four in T20Is, sealing his reputation as a solid all-round package. In three Tests, Bethell is already averaging 52 with 3 fifties to his name including a best of 96. Jacob Bethell. En fuego 🔥 — England Cricket (@englandcricket) May 29, 2025 Speaking to Sky Sports, McCullum said about Bethell, 'Bethell has a good life in front of him. For a 21-year-old, he's got a real poise, and that allows him to go out there and be present and show off his flair and talent. 'The world is his oyster. He is already becoming a leader in the dressing room which is what you want,' he continued. The England head coach also said that the pair of Jamie Smith and Ben Duckett in the white-ball, reminds him of the opening pair of Zak Crawley and Duckett in Tests. 'We know how good Duckett is, but the power that Smith possesses is amazing. These guys are fearless, and if you add the craft, then you hope you end up with a rounded player,' he concluded. Jamie Smith played as an opener during the white-ball series against England, scoring 37, 0 and 64 in ODIs, while he played knocks of 38, 4 and 60 in T20Is. On the other hand, Duckett made scores of 58, 0 and 60 in ODIs while he had knocks of 1, 30 and 84 in T20Is. The series will take place from June to August, with matches at Headingley (Leeds), Edgbaston (Birmingham), Lord's (London), Old Trafford (Manchester), and The Oval (London). Jamie Overton has been handed a surprise recall to England's squad for the first Test against India after his Surrey team-mate Gus Atkinson was ruled out with a hamstring strain injury. Jacob Bethell, who partnered Virat Kohli as opener in RCB in Phil Salt's absence, has returned to the squad, while Chris Woakes and Brydon Carse are both back after missing England's win over Zimbabwe with niggles. England's squad has changed significantly since their 4-1 series defeat in India last year.
