Mr Wallace and Mr Ward are both from well-known families in the Dungloe area.
Family of both men are now on their way to Australia to be with the young men.
In response to the incident, a friend of the pair has now launched a Go Fund Me page.
Organiser Ryan Connors said all money will go directly to the men's families.
Ryan said: 'Funds raised will go directly towards easing the financial burden that comes with an accident of this scale - including helping family members travel to be with them in Australia, covering accommodation and living expenses, and supporting the lads as they recover and eventually get back on their feet.
'There's no set fundraising target at this point, as the full extent of their recovery needs and associated costs is still unknown. Our focus right now is on ensuring their families can be by their side and that any immediate expenses are covered.'
More than €22,000 has now been raised since the fundraiser was launched just a couple of days ago.
Ryan added 'Every donation, no matter the size, will make a meaningful difference and is deeply appreciated by John, Caolan, and their families.'

Norfolk town of Thetford in mourning after deaths of five in Portuguese road crash

A town has been left in shock after the deaths of five people in a road crash in Portugal. Twin brothers Afonso and Domingo Serrano, 20, from Thetford in Norfolk, died along with their parents Domingos Serrano, 55, and Maria Serrano, 51, and a young woman, reported to be girlfriend of one of the young men. All five died after their hire car was involved in a head-on crash near Castro Verde in the south of the country just hours after they had landed in Faro for a holiday to visit relations in Portugal. A post on GoFundMe by their daughter-in-law Catia Vieira said the rented car had burst into flames, killing everyone inside. Ms Vieira said: "They are a very lovely family, very loved from everyone around. They knew so many people around and the twins too." The Serrano family were living in Thetford, Norwich, but were thought to be Portuguese nationals, from the area of Mourão. The city council of Mourão in Portugal declared two days of municipal mourning after the crash, which happened in the early hours of Saturday on the IP2 highway, near Castro Verde. In a statement they said the family were traveling from Faro to Mourão for their "usual and well-deserved vacation". The Mayor of Thetford, who is also Portuguese, said the community back in Norfolk was shaken by the news. Carla Barreto told ITV News Anglia the family had lived in Thetford for a long time, since the boys were quite small, and 'were very popular with the community'. She said: 'We're grieving for the family. It's bad enough when you lose a community member, especially when it's a young person. But to lose a whole family in one go is extremely sad.' Mrs Barreto added: 'This is something Portuguese families do, they go back to visit their home country, they visit their families, their grandparents. It's the time of year they are supposed to have a break, it's supposed to be a happy time of the year to rest, to enjoy time with family. To have something so bad happen, it's really sad.' 'The whole Portuguese community is grieving, I've been receiving messages, emails. 'We didn't just lose a family from a migrant community, of the Portuguese community, they've been a part of the community for a long time, same as me. "We are an integral part of the community so we've lost one of our families, our members and as a family I think the whole community is grieving at the moment unfortunately'. The local MP for South West Norfolk, Terry Jermy, said: "It is dreadfully sad news about the Serrano Family from Thetford who have died in a car accident whilst visiting Portugal. "They were active members of the local community and much-loved. My deepest condolences to their family and all that knew them."

Influencer twist revealed in horror car crash that left newborn baby fighting for life

An influential socialite has called on her thousands of followers to help her ex whose newborn baby remains in hospital following a near-fatal car crash. Casey King, 25, and Ryan Heywood were on their way home in the Gold Coast on July 25 when their car was struck on the M1 at Bilinga. Ms King was 38 weeks pregnant sitting in the backseat when a Mitsubishi Lancer driven by an 18-year-old P-plater collided with their vehicle from behind. She was trapped in the car for nearly an hour before being rushed to hospital with a broken back where she also had to undergo an emergency C-section. Baby Henry, who was treated for blood loss and brain bleeds, was born unresponsive and two weeks on remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition. Mr Heywood was able to escape the wreckage with minor injuries and now his former partner, Ruby Tuesday Matthews, has called asked anyone who can to help him. The Byron Bay socialite shared a link to a GoFundMe established by Alivia Nosti, the sister of Mr Heywood's current partner. Ms Nosti is aiming to raise $65,000 to help the new parents support Henry as he continues to recover. First-time parents Casey King, 25, and Ryan Heywood were hit from behind on their way home on the M1 at Bilinga in Queensland Ms Matthews asked her tens of thousands of followers to help Ms King and her newborn in any way they could. All money raised will go towards supporting the parents by 'allowing them to focus completely on Henry's recovery and their own healing', Ms Nosti wrote. 'Henry was born unresponsive and in a critical condition... He is now being closely monitored and treated [but] remains in a critical but stable condition. 'Casey and Ryan live over 1.5 hours away from the hospital and are spending all of their time by Henry's side.' Ms Matthews and Mr Heywood were formerly committed in a serious relationship and now share two children, Rocket and Mars, together. On Saturday, Ms Nosti thanked everyone who donated towards or shared the page with others after the total amount of money raised hit $50,000. 'I am completely lost for words. I never imagined this page would reach so many people, let alone that so many of you would want to help,' Ms Nostri said. 'These past few weeks have been the most heartbreaking and overwhelming time for my sister, her partner ryan, and my baby nephew Henry.' The couple's car had been struck with such force that it was completely written off. Police allege the driver was street racing with another P-plater at speeds of up to 180km/h when both vehicles lost control and hit the side rail. Ms Nostri previously told Daily Mail Australia people need to be more careful on the roads. 'We want to send an important message about the dangers on our roads,' Ms Nosti told Daily Mail on Friday night. 'You might think it will never happen to you, but it only takes one reckless decision to change the lives of innocent people forever, just as it has changed ours.' More than 1,329 people died on the country's roads in the year to June 30, with 5.3 per 100,000 having died in Queensland, according to data from the Australian Automobile Association. The state is also battling a youth crime scourge, including a recent spike in Cairns in the state's far north. In November last year, Cairns Police unleashed a week-long operation to disrupt, prevent and investigate youth crime which resulted in 54 minors being charged with 220 offences.
