Chelsea fans toast Conference League trophy but look forward to bigger challenges
WROCLAW, Poland : Chelsea fans toasted Wednesday's Conference League triumph with varying views on the trophy's prestige, but all were united on at least one front, that the future looks bright for the London club.
After going a goal down, Chelsea quickly asserted themselves and left little doubt by the final whistle that they were the better side, closing the match in Wroclaw with a commanding 4-1 victory over Spanish side Real Betis.
Chelsea are now the first English side to win all four major European trophies, having twice claimed both the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League as well as the now defunct Cup Winners' Cup. They have also won two UEFA Super Cups.
"A trophy always feels good," said lifelong Chelsea fan Martin as he was celebrating in the old town of the Polish city.
"Of course it is a real trophy. We haven't had the best season, but we completed the set, we won everything in Europe there is to win," said another supporter, James.
Still, there were murmurs among the fans about the tournament's lack of prestige and competitiveness.
"During the whole tournament, I did not feel like it was a competition. It was obvious Chelsea was going to win," Chelsea fan Marip said.
"Hopefully next year we will get some stronger teams to play against."
"Not really a big thing. We usually win a major trophy," said a 10-year-old Chelsea supporter from London.
Though there were differing views, all agreed that the club is on an upward trajectory.
"I hope we get more interesting players in the transfer window, but we are in good shape for what comes," Marip added.

Sabalenka started in ruthless fashion, racing to a 5-0 lead but Danilovic avoided the bagel by winning the sixth game on serve, going on to pull a break back. The resurgence was shortlived, however, as Sabalenka wrapped up the opening set with another break of serve. Danilovic put up a decent fight in the second set but there was no comeback on the cards as Sabalenka broke for 5-3. The three-time Grand Slam champion wrapped it up with an unreturnable serve on a half-empty Court Philippe Chatrier - a common occurrence on early matches at the French Open. Is that enough to make her the top favourite for a maiden French Open title? "It's tough to predict in women's tennis, you know. Let's just leave it (the favourite tag) on Iga since she won it, what, three times in a row, really, right?," she said.

Changed Musetti survives tough start to reach French Open fourth round
PARIS :Now with a clear idea of what his task on court is, Italian craftsman Lorenzo Musetti overcame a sluggish start to qualify for the fourth round of the French Open with a 4-6 6-4 6-3 6-2 victory against Argentine Mariano Navone on Friday. Full of confidence after reaching at least the semi-finals in all three Masters events on clay this season, eighth seed Musetti was caught off guard by his opponent early on before finding his groove on a sunkissed Court Suzanne Lenglen. Musetti will next face either France's Quentin Halys or Dane Holger Rune. "Today it felt completely different in terms of conditions from the last two matches, the ball was bouncing not that high (before) and today at the beginning I was a bit surprised," said Musetti. "Then I started feeling better on court and improved my game." Musetti has broken into the top 10, a feat he attributes to a change in his attitude. "I put some order in my tennis chaos. My game is varied, so it's not easy for me to make a decision. The click is now I know what to do on court. I grew up in the attitude and the mental side. A match like this a few years ago I don't know if I would have come back," he said. Musetti is part of Italy's golden generation that also features world number one Jannik Sinner and last year's French Open runner-up Jasmine Paolini. "It has to be pasta or pizza... Jokes aside, we have a bit of luck because we live the best years of our tennis, men and women, being part of this group last year was amazing; we won the Billie Jean King Cup and the Davis Cup. Musetti broke back for 3-3, only to drop serve in the next game as his usually brilliant forehand let him down. But Navone gradually ran out of gas, allowing his opponent to step into the court more easily and Musetti did not need much more to turn things around and race to victory.

Norris fastest in first Spanish GP practice
BARCELONA :McLaren's Lando Norris followed up his victory in Monaco by lapping fastest in first practice for the Spanish Grand Prix on Friday, with Red Bull's Max Verstappen ending the session as his closest rival. The Briton, winner last Sunday to close to only three points behind championship-leading teammate Oscar Piastri after eight of 24 rounds, set a best time of one minute and 13.718 seconds at the Circuit de Catalunya. Verstappen was 0.367 slower but missed some 20 minutes of the session with mechanics working to change the car's rear suspension. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton - winner a record-equalling six times in Spain - was third on the timesheets, 0.378 off the pace and ahead of teammate Charles Leclerc (+0.520) with Piastri fifth (+0.576). The session was the first in which teams used new front wings to meet stricter flex tests introduced for the Spanish weekend, but there was no immediate sign of any significant change.
